I did a brief live trip report yesterday, so mods, please delete that topic, since I will go into further detail here.
The morning started out great. After having a great breakfast, we headed out to the park. We decided to pay the extra bucks to park in the front lot, and to our surprise, it was $20 for parking, not the usual $25. Bonus #1. Went to get our kids measured for height, and found out that my daughter is now past that magical height barrier. Bonus #2. Started waling through at around 10ish to see a pretty empty park. Bonus #3. My son to his first ride on Viper, twice, and my daughter took her first ride on Bull, twice. Four rides in a span of about 25 minutes. Then it was on for a spin on TT2. I am not going to mention much about this ride, because we all know how awesome it is. When the day was finally done, I don't think we waited more than 15 minutes for a ride. We spent most of the day hitting the rides, since the scaractors didn't come out until after 4, and the rest of the evening taking it all in, with a few rides here, and there. At the end of day our ride count was this.
Viper - 5
Bull - 3 - Daughters first ride, and now favorite.
V2 - 3 - Daughters first ride, in which she was in tears wanting to get off before the ride started. In the end, she had a grin on her face, and wanted to do it again.
Batman - 2 - Another first for my daughter.
Dark Knight - 1
Little Dipper - 3
TT2 - 4
Rue La Morgue - 4
Giant Drop - 2
Pit and the Pendelum - 3
Ricoslay - 2
Eagle - 1
+ other rides spread here and there.
Lets get to the meat of the matter, and what everybody who has not been there wants to know. How was it with Six Flags doing it in house? Lets face it, Fright Fest has been lagging over the past few years, whether it be money constraints, or what not. Are the clowns going to be missed, along with Mayor Slayer, sure they will, but that is in the past. Many have worried that the scaractors would be lame, and not as well done as JPM. I can tell you this....................
Six Flags pulled it off.
Not only did every section have a group scaractors, they were aggressive, in your face, and not afraid to go after anybody (case in point, my 9 year old daughter mentioned that she was scared just a little, and one of the actors heard that, took that moment, and went with it) That does not mean that all of them were like that. There were a few that were tame, and not that good. You can tell that all of them were enjoying what they were doing, and it showed. At night, they pretty much blended in with the crowd, and it was at times hard to tell where they were at, until they were on you (I saw this happen a few times).
As it has been stated before on these forums, its not best to give it all away, but rather to let one find it out for themselves. While I thought that was somewhat silly, I now know why. There are decorations where there has never been any before. Actors are spread out, and more of them. I will have to mention one place. That is Necropolis, which in my books, is the best it has ever been. More scaractors than ever before, and, without a question of a doubt, two new characters that shine, and I hope return next year. For those who have been to FF, you will know who I mean. I have never been startled, but the actors at Necro managed to get me a few times.
At the end of the day, Great America pulled it off. They did what alot of people thought the couldn't do, and that was to make a truely great Fright Fest. From TT2, to Giant Drop, and it's random drop times, Fright Fest didn't dissapoint. Was it perfect? No, but that didn't stop the atmosphere that was in the place. My daughter, and wife took in Love at First Fright, and they thought it was a great show. We didn't get to any of the Haunted Houses.
