Cedar Point 6/4 & 6/5/2010

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby bobbinbop20 on June 6th, 2010, 11:44 am
So, this trip came out of nowhere, me and my sister woke up and were like you know what, I think I want to go to Cedar Point today! So were like "Mom do you wanna make a quick trip to CP?"

Naturally she said yes, because if she said no well then this PTR wouldn't be possible.

Anyway, Cedar Point is still a pretty fantastic park. It really just feels like you've escaped when your on a trip to CP because your out in the middle of Lake Erie surrounded by water, very nice atmosphere for an Amusement Park if you ask me.

Since we've been to Cedar Point a few times we knew all we really wanted to ride were Dragster, Maverick, and Millennium. It's so hard to pick a favorite out of these 3, there all just so unbelievably good, and they shine the best when ridden in the front rows.

We also rode a few of our other favorites at CP like Wicked Twister, Gemini, Power Tower, and Magnum

Millennium Force - (5 rides) The line for MF was about 20 minutes both friday night and saturday so we took full advantage because were used to waiting more then an hour for it! As for the ride experience, holy hell my opinion on this ride has taken a complete 180 since my first ride back in 2008 when I though it was dull, a ride in the first or second row is full of nice floaty airtime and vision loosing positive forces, not to mention it's incredibly fast! RIDE IN THE FRONT OF THE TRAIN, THE BACK ISN'T ANYWHERE NEAR AS GOOD!

Top Thrill Dragster - (3 rides) - I've always loved Dragster and always will, the launch is full of such power it feels like your rocketing to the moon, RIDE THIS RIDE IN THE FRONT ROW! It's an incredible experience and makes the ride 10x better, I could almost call it my favorite coaster of the 157 I've rode. Dragster also was performing superior, it didn't break down once, and we never waited more then 10 - 20 minutes, awesome!

Maverick - (2 rides) - Mavericks line was a bit longer, which only allowed us to get 2 rides in, it's ok though because they were good rides! If I had to pick a favorite out of the 3 I would probably choose Maverick, the quick transitions and second "Mr. Freeze" type launch are just the icing on top of the cake, plus it has some of the best airtime I've ever experienced on any roller coaster! I must warn you however, ride in the front row of Maverick otherwise you get slammed against the shoulder restraints many times because of all the quick transitions, it begins to sting after a while but the ride is still fantastic, Cedar Point sure proved that bigger isn't always better!

Coastermaina was going on this weekend, but personally I could careless about a bunch of chubby, smelly, dorky "green tags" as we called them, marching around like they were the $hit when we all know their not. (they wore those stupid Coastermania tag things around their necks and they were green)

Anyway, enough of that ramble... onto the few pictures, I didn't take any Friday night because it was already dark by the time we got to the park and I didn't feel like lugging the thing around.

Image
Personally my first time going through the main gate at CP (This was the first time we didn't stay on the property, because we have Kings Island Platinum Passes we were still able to get the hour early entry)

Image
A little MF to brighten your morning

Image
Everyone has this picture, moving on..

Image
Shoot the Rapids was well, kinda just sitting there. I didn't see them doing any work on it either of the days.

Image
Famazing 300ft drop

Image
Heading to the back of the park for the real show stealer

Image
Revenge of the GREEN TAGS!!!! NERDS!!!!!

Image
Awesome food

Image
I love this part of the ride

Image
If you love Maverick, well then go ride it! And take a picture in it's station like we did!

Image
Random wheel, but ride is it from?!

Image
Dragster with a minimal line

Image
Why are Ninja and Flight Deck so awesome, but Iron Dragon stinks?!

Image

Image
Dragster riders having fun

Image
S&S towers are a personal favorite of ours

Image
Something about this picture is just cool

Image
Pink flower....

Image
10 years old and still awesome!

Image
If you know me, you know I love B&M's, but I dont know what it is about Cedar Point's 2 B&M's, Raptor and Mantis just don't do it for me.

Image

Image
It's all smiles on the brake run

Image
your typical MF seats

Image
The guy in the second row if flicking us off. nice dude. nice

Image
There he is again.

Image
This needs to be cleaned

Image
blah whatever

Image
And now a selection of Maverick photos without captions. It's late..

Image

Image

Image
This one needs a caption, check out that hairtime!

Image

Image

Image
This is a good spot to get a nice picture showing everyone's reactions to the ride.

Image
Lots of royal blue Intamin track

Image
Magnum has it's good days and bad ones, unfortunately today was a bad one... sigh

Image
oh no, everyone flew out and died

Image
This ride really towers over Soak City, but doesn't get much praise because of its successors.

Image
So, get this. It drizzled for maybe 3 minutes and EVERYONE left dragster's queue and station, so were walking past right when it we see this empty station and then they open the ride, we immediately make a 180 and sprint to the entrance, 5 minutes later were in the FREAKING FRONT ROW, which was crazy awesome because last October we had to wait an extra hour once we already waited an hour to get to the station just for the front row. So, in the end 5 minutes >>>>> 2 hours!!! What a steal, and then right after we got off they launched 2 more trains and it started pouring rain so they shut it down for a while. I felt so accomplished after that experience, not to mention Dragster in the front row is probably they best experience I've had in my entire life. period.

Image
So right after we go to Millennium Force.

Image
We wait about 15 minutes and are in line for the second row (best spot besides the front, because the stadium seats make it possible to pretty much see over whoever is in the front and make it like the front row without the extra hour wait) Anyway, there was a single in the front row and they asked if anyone wanted to ride in the front, this is the part were I started jumping up and down screaming meeeeeee! I ditched my sister and then had my very first front row ride on Millennium Force, incredible, you have got to try this ride in the front row, it's unlike anything you could possibly imagine!!!! Two back to back front row rides that I would usually have to wait a very long time for, I got within a half hour, can you say best day ever?!

Image
Took a few pictures of Mantis

Image

Image

Image

Image
It was cool seeing a test seat for a standup

Image
Finally got my wildcat credit, pretty fun ride!

Image
Headed back to the front of the park

Image
Took a few pictures of Raptor..

Image

Image
And after that it was time to head 4 and a half hours back home.... goodbye Cedar Point, I love you!

Great pictures! I've never been to CP, but from the pictures it definitely looks a lot more sophisticated than any Six Flags park. Is the price point much higher there?

Um, I'm not really sure. I know parking was $10 but I didn't buy any food or anything in the park so I wasn't paying attention to the prices.

Isn't that wheel from Wicked Twister? I don't think Cedar Point is sophisticated. It's a neon park for goodness sakes? I wouldn't consider this a up to dooey type of park unless you are considering Great America a up to dooey type of park. I guess my real question is what is a sophisticated park anyway? The prices are around Six Flags Great America prices without the huge discounts Six Flags has been offering. It's not $76 + a day for Cedar Point type of park.

This park has a lot of coasters for a reason that they keep a bunch of their old coasters because the park has a lot of room.

Great PTR... thanks

And to the above comment, I find Cedar Point to always have more deals in terms of single day admission and they offer the starlight pricing after 5pm which is more than enough time for me sometimes (especially since CP stays open sometimes until 12am or 1am until all the lines are cleared).

Their season pass prices aren't as good but they also don't have advertising slapped on every damn ride in the park!

Bobbinbop, you sure are one lucky kid to have a mom who takes you all over at a moments notice. I wish I could have read this trip report before I went to CP last week. I only rode Maverick from the back and it dropped from my #2 ranking. I rode TTD from row 2, which was the best spot I had on it. I only rode MF from the back, because the last time I rode it from the front, I ate bugs and the ride didn't impress me as much. I'll have to move forward the next time I'm there. Raptor was a better ride for me than I remembered, but Gemini was really having an off day and was pretty rough.................I thick CP is a sophisticated park. Most of their rides were built with the best technology available...........Food/drink was comparable to GAm, but we found online ticket deals on CP's website for $30...........CP is only 364 acres. They just do alot more with it than GAm.

Haha, nope David.

It's a wheel from Wicked Twister, which my mom thinks is called "Twisted Sister"

You shoulda rode Mean Streak, I was working it those two days! Met with so many freakin ACErs though, I couldn't handle it after awhile.

Glad you had fun, but I gotta disagree and say that MF is way better in the back, and Magnum is one of the best rides in the park. That ejector seat is insane. Maverick is the best though, no doubt about it.

Oh, and Shoot the Rapids will be very dead until...well...new boats arrive.

Is that a joke?! Once was more then enough, and I hate ACErs.

Haha, there are ways to ride Mean Streak so it doesn't hurt.

But that just makes it slow and boring. Definitely one of the worst rides in the park.

It's too tall and beats you to hell on the first half so the park trims the first drop to try and slow the train down, then trims it even more on the block so the entire second half of the ride is boring as sin. There are two hills that should deliver solid airtime that don't do anything.

Basically, take the trims off and the front half of the ride hurts like hell, but the second half would probably be awesome.
