Kings Island, SFKK & a whole lotta Diamondback 10/24 & 10/25

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby bobbinbop20 on October 29th, 2009, 7:31 pm
So I went to Louisville last weekend for a Cross Country meet, yeah Im a runner :) Actually most of my trips are because of running competitions. Anyway I was in louisville and decided I would go to SFKK one more time before it gets torn down, BUT the main reason was obviously to get my 2010 season pass for ultra cheap!!!

These nice ladies actually offered me a free ticket when I got to the gate so I thanked them, then proccedded to upgrade in the park to a 2010 pass for only $14.99 CHA CHING!!! We stayed at SFKK for an hour tops and got outta there faster then we got in.

Then we got to the real park of this trip, KINGS ISLAND! I loved this park, it has a great selections of rides and of course the newest B&M hyper, which by the way is super super awesome! I definitely plan on coming back next year, plus I got a 2010 CF Platinum pass so why wouldn't I?! My favorites at the park were Diamondback obviously, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Beast, and Invertigo!

Diamondback was everything I thought it would be and more, great airtime over every hill plus tremedously smooth and fast. It currently sits as my 2nd favorite steel coaster, and 3rd favorite coaster. Plus on sunday it was a max of 3 train wait so we rode 16 times including 2 the night before. Delicious!

The Haunt was cool, but it was basically just fog everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE I could barely breath, plus tons of haunted house type things with 2 hour long waits, needless to say we didn't do any of them. Nothing really special besides that.

Anyway Im sure most of you are more interested in Kings Island pictures so I'll post them first, I'll put SFKK up later tonight maybe, there's lots of Chang deconstruction pictures so be sure to check back!

Oh yeah I also made a video of RAW FOOTAGE of Diamondback, so if your interested here's the link:
http://vimeo.com/7296947

Now onto the pictures :)

Image
were in windmill zone now...

Image
yep definitely the middle of nowhere

Me and Jaime (hypercoastegirl <3)

Image
Shes in love with good hypers, and arrow suspended coasters, weird combo I know but thats whats so great about her, shes not afraid to tell you a ride sucks. Shes not really an enthusiast she just knows alot about coasters so dont get all freaked out when she says she hates a ride.

Image
This was a damn good little ride

Image
Da Da Da Diamondback!

Image
I was skeptical about these newer trains but ended up loving them

Image
Coolest thing ever when your in the back row and you look back..

Image
top of the lift

Image

Image
you know I love it when I take a ton of pictures of it

Image
By the way the front seat of this ride is the best seat I think because of the long length of the train you really get launched out of your seat at certain spots in the front

Image

Image
First drop fun

Image
the back portion

Image

Image

Image
one of my personal favorite pictures

Image
This ride was a really cool little coaster

Image

The theming on this ride is great

Image
vortex

Image
This was closed, looked like they started early winter rehab on it

Image

Image
I like that funky looking twist at the end

Image
Invertigo, I've never been on Deja Vu but im guessing this is like a mini version of it?

Image
even if its not the same layout

Image
The main entrance area

Image
Fairly odd coaster

Image
Delirium, very fun ride

Image

Image

Image
overall I think I enjoyed this more then SUF

Image

Image
Mandatory Coaster with Coaster Sign shot

Image
Time for more DB rides

Image
Im hypercoastergirl and I know everything there is to know about Hypers, therefore I rate this one #1 and better then Bizarro

Image
If you look in the second to last row you can see hypercoastergirl, she told me she was going to starbucks but then hopped back on DB for more rides, well HA I caught her!!!

Image
Son of Beast

Image
Skycoaster was 5 dollars but had a long line

Image
way back in a corner lies Flight Deck

Image
We rode 7 times in a row without moving, then decided it was so intense we needed a break

I'm glad you liked KI, its my favorite Cedar Fair park. Mainly because it has one of my favorite coasters of all time, The Beast. Double helix insanity :).

Differences between Deja Vu, and Invertigo are:

Deja Vu has 90 degree towers
Invertigo isn't that straight anglish. A guess might be 65ish.

Deja Vu has quite a big loop.
Inverigo's is smaller.

Deja Vu has 2 seats innner, than 2 seats outer, etc.
Invertigo has 2 seats facing forward, 2 seats facing backward, etc.
--In my opinion, there are 3 different experiences on Deja Vu - for whichever seat you pick. You pick an outer seat, and there is nothing in front of you. You are dangling out of your seat. You pick an inner seat, and you have a stupid metal thing in front of you, and to me you feel not "worried" or not really excitied about the 90 degree drop. The other experience for Deja Vu is back or front. Sure, it's like that on every ride, but for Deja Vu, it's even more because if you ride front, you are facing the sky longer on tower 2, and if you ride in the back, you are facing the ground more on tower 1 (twice). V2 is another ride like that because it has 2 different things it does.

Deja Vu uses a cable to send the catchcar up the tower.
Invertigo uses like a liftchain (a little different) that connects to the catchcars that connects to the train.

When I see Invertigo work, on the towers you see 2 metal pieces close together, and to me that helps stop the train better when the train hits the catchcar.
Deja Vu didn't have this.

Deja Vu is not as much as a social ride.
Invertigo is more of a social ride. When you are facing other people, you will want to talk to the people right across from you, or they will talk to you. You can see their reactions. On Deja Vu, you are facing the one way like how Batman the Ride is, and yes you can interact with the people next to you, but it's more of a social ride when they are facing you.

I choose Deja Vu as number 1 coaster I've been on, and Invertigo in my opinion is number 4, so there is a difference. The regular sitdown boomerang, I rank it somewhere in the 20's. I also rank a mouse coaster like Dark Knight, at Busch Gardens, at SFKK, or at Dorney Park in the 20's too.

Another thing is that Invertigo when I went on multiple times (overall 4 times to that park - 2 years) hasn't broken down once. Deja Vu usually was around a little bit more than a every hour. Here's the kicker though for Deja Vu. A ton of times (I mean a lot.) it was mis-parking! That just means that when the train came in the station it wasn't lined up with the sensor, so they had wait for the mechanic to come, and move the train in place. The procedure to fix the ride was really like 30 seconds to move the train in place. It took more time for the mechanic to get there, than for him to actually fix the ride. In my opinion, I think the employees should have just handled that situation until they actually permamently fixed the situation. It was so simple to do. I think in 2006, the mis-parking had almost gone away though.

Hey for Invertigo, did you notice the blue and green in the line for that ride. Yep, that Deja Vu's colors!

Nice trip report by the way. I definitely think Flight Deck is an under-rated coaster at that park, and I don't really think that ride is going last much longer by the way I seen the lines.

Wow thanks for typing all of that out! I know the Differences in the trains and heights and stuff i was just wondering about the experience you got on Invertigo compared to Deja Vu, You answered it for me though, thanks!

And yes, Flight deck is fantastic and I agree that I dont see it staying there for very much longer, because honestly most GP wouldn't even notice it was missing, its so far tucked back in a corner.

^No problem.

Two other experiences you might be able to relate to are Mr. Freeze (St. Louis or Over Texas if you have been to those places), and V2. When V2 was stopping in the air, that partially is like on Deja Vu when you were on tower 1, and stopping before you dropped down at the 90 degrees angle. When V2 does that though, it's a little more rougher than Deja Vu was though. There was the slow climb up that tower though for Deja Vu. For Mr. Freeze, when you go up that spike in the air, it feels like tower 2 on Deja Vu, but yet on Deja Vu again you are going up really slow, and stopping whereas Mr. Freeze is more like you are waiting for gravity to take you down again.

^ok, yeah I've been to SFOT but it was during Holiday in the park and Mr. Freeze doesn't operate during that event, the closest I can think of Mr. Freezes Spike on a ride that I've been on would be like Superman at Magic Mountain

The double helix on the Beast was actually re profiled this year. They moved the track to the extreme outside of the ledgers to make it a slightly wider radius. Also the track is not wood anymore, it's an engineered lumber product that utilizes cement in it from what the park said. It's running amazing in the helix this year though. I always liked it but it used to be BRUTAL.

Also for flight deck, it never has a line due to it being out in the middle of nowhere. If they get rid of it it wont be cause of lack of popularity, will probably be due to metal fatigue.

The other reason KI is the best Cedar Fair park, the funny music playing in Italian Jobs queue  (though I doubt they play it during Haunt)

Its like a flashback to popular music when I was a kid
