Trip Report - August 11th - CAD

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby mallclerks on August 12th, 2004, 9:42 pm
Unlike our usual leaving time of 6am and getting to the park before opening, we decided to sleep in since it would have been a 21 hour day (6am-3am) so we left around 11am. We got to Gurnee around 2pm (we stopped at the newly opened Ohare Oasis for 30 minutes, place is really nice compared to the old places, cant wait for subway to open in it though :) )

Anyways, when we got to gurnee it was raining a little bit, so we went to the mall for some food, finally went to the park around 3pm.

Parking lot was fairly full, but not as bad as I had expected. Was a cold day, lows were 55 degrees or so I beleive.

Headed to Viper first, only took 3 minutes to get into station, and then around 10 minutes for backrow! Headed to RB next, line started right by entrance, though none of the mazes were being used, So only took us 15-20 minutes to get our backseat ride over with.

Noticed DV was open, though we didnt feel like waiting for it today, granted it didnt look to have the mazes open either, yet instead they decided to let the line spill out into the midway, I hate how they refuse to open the mazes up :( later on I noticed the same with Ragin Cajun, they didnt have any mazes open yet had a line going 1/2 across the bridge :/

American Eagle had no wait, both sides open and racing 1/2 the time it seemed. we got onto the train, and rode it for 3 trips around, nice relaxing trip, lol! Was around 8pm when we got off, went to Stargate followed by Skytrek tower. headed over to Batman, no wait at all, so we took backseat, then rode again in front. Went to line in Superman, was 9:30pm now, and a Manager was standing at the entrance asking if anyone else wanted to get in line, so we got in and 4 more people behind us and then he closed the line down for 10pm CAD. Got last train/last row of normal operation for the night :) Lol! Was now 10PM, CAD time, and like the June CAD I went to in June, lines were longer during CAD then they were during the evening it seemed. Went to V2, Iron Wolf, American Eagle RED, Raging Bull, Viper, and finished up with Whizzer. Left right around Midnight.

Overall a fairly good day, we more or less walked around much more then riding coasters it seemed, just had a lazy day at the park, lol!

They do that usually for the convenience of park guests. It makes the line look longer so people won't expect to be on quicker than usual. They did that for Cajun once when it was only running 3 cars. They used the closest 2 switchbacks to the midway and let it flow out into the midway.( Or they just could've been lazy, but who knows.)

Is the reason why you just walked around because the rides were too crowded, or because you were bored of the rides being there so many times? I don't know how many times you've been there though. Since you were at night, was Revolution open or not?

I tried one of the new oasises, and they didn't impress me too much. On one side of it, there was a big empty space while the other side had more fast food places such as McDonald's, a convenient store, and a Panda Express. The middle had a Krispy Kreme (They must be paying big bucks because they have a sign that can be seen from the tollway), Tropicana, and a Starbucks.

On the far other side (past the empty space), they had a Subway, McDonald's McTreats which had ice cream, cookies, and some other stuff along with a small unheard of food place. I remember them before, and they weren't too great. This is better, but they could have still put a little more. They should have a information center to help people out of state, but they don't. It gets a 6/10 in my book.

Revolution was open during normal operations, but closed during CAD. They also had Giant Drop closed, which was open during the first CAD from what I remember.

Giant Drop's cars kept getting stuck Wed. night, I saw them stuck in about 2 or 3 different places during CAD.
