Six Flags America (August 2010)

Let us know how your day at the park was.

Knowing how horrible of a reputation and history SFA has I was excieted to visit the park to see it in action. We got on all the coasters however while the SLC, Roar, and Wild One were running 2 trains, the two most popular rides: SROS and Batwing, were running 1.

Seeing the staff walking from the bus stop blocking traffic is a pretty good first impression

No need for parking trams today

Nothing like walking into a colonial themed area with "single ladies" playing over the speakers

Discovercard entrance?

How does one obtain a flag?

No roller blading shoes allowed in the park

Apparently the World Trade Center is in Gotham City

One thing that has always stuck out to me about this park is the rediculous expansion Premier did with it. There is one path that leads to the back half of the park, after you go on Batwing you are at a complete dead end and have to walk all the way back.

Image
Theres a fence with Superman logo's surrounding Jokers Jynx (and just that ride), and this is in the Gotham themed area of the park?

I loved SROS at Darien Lake I was really excited to ride it again at SFA. I read in many TR's that it had fallen into despair and had been running poorly, however I noticed the opposite. It was running fast, smooth, filled with airtime, and the helixes were forceful. Also from the looks of it, it had just been painted.

Another look at the horribly designed expansion Premier did to this park

For such a ghetto ride, Batwing has a really awesome new station soundtrack featuring music from the Dark Knight and themed quotes from the charecters that setup the story really well. Unfortunately the ride isn't themed very well so it doesn't make much sense, but it made sitting on the train waiting for the train to dispatch much more enjoyable.

Image
Seeing the train go speeding into the brakes (which is about 1 train length) and suddenly stopping has always made me a bit nervous knowing Intamin, however since SFA was running 1 train it's not a problem I guess

It may have a really strange drawn-out layout, but it's airtime filled hills and bizarre helixes make it a great coaster

SFA has a really nice new Thomas Town, much better than SFMM's

I had heard a lot of good things about Wild One, overall it was OK but nothing too exciting, some of the turns are oddly flat also

Image
Roar was actually pretty good, not nearly as rough as I thought it would be with the PTC's running

The tiny kids coaster is apparently a moderate thrill, the same rating as rides like King Chaos

This area reminded me of Thanksgiving at Holiday World, a very random "in the middle of a big field" expansion

Found it a bit odd this girl was literally yelling at people in the Flashpass lane over the microphone while her supervisor was standing right next to her

Image
I tried riding the drop tower and they yelled at me from the platform that it was closed and to leave the line. I still think they were making it up.

While we're on a roll may as well pile it on

Besides S:ROS, that park looks like garbage!
Have a take and don't suck, it's the Jim Rome Show!

Wee - I was the first viewer of the vid.. hehe.

Welcome to the new Six Flags. Theming and music don't go hand in hand.

I don't see what the problem is with that. It's always been like that...

I doubt it has always been like that. When I went to SFNE in 2005 they had beautiful themed entrance music that went along with their admissions-plaza very well and supplimented the deco very well for a very pleasant and exciting experience when you first enter the park. Then when I went to SFNE again in 2008 they pretty much destroyed their amazing entrance area with ads and smoking banners all over the place, as well as pop music blaring over the speakers instead of the themed music they had before. SFA's entrance area is very similar to SFNE's entrance area so I would think at some point they had a pretty good themed music loop as well.

Why would a park that has a reputation for being ghetto play hip hop/rap over the speakers as the first thing you hear when you enter the park?

Because its Six Flags Radio and thats all they play. Lets see if it changes next year. I do agree at SFNE's entrance though, which Premier redid the entrance gates to make it look like SFA when they took over the park. Now they just display S:RoS/Bizarro's Golden Tickets.
