My opinion of the matter is that instead of driving the full 3 hours right away is that you drive 1.5 hours, eat somewhere (maybe a restaurant - not just fast food), and than it doesn't seem like you have been driving for 3 hours.

You guys have gotta be kidding! In January I drove from Chicago to Orlando with a bag of Twizzlers, only stopping for gas when neccessary (no sleep). And last summer went from LA, to norcal, to Chicago. Also have done a few trips going from GAm one day and driving overnight and doing GAdv the next followed by other east coast parks etc. Believe me if you stop every 1 1/2 hours you will never get anywhere in this country. Vowing to never spend 3 hours in a car? How will you ever get to any parks?
Way to be dedicated Brad. I can't say I've done anything at your caliber, but I'll sit in a car for 5-6 hours at a time until I need gas again. A four hour drive to school and traveling every weekend between 3-9 hours I can drive quite a ways without stopping.

/\ Haha not me, water + long drive = no bueno. Ill get an occasional bottle of Gatorade during a gas stop if I get tired but I make sure to not chug it down because liquids go right through me.
Don't hate down on long drives, going through the Rockies and the desert was a great life experience for me (gotta love driving through the desert with priest "Desert Plains" blasting playing through the car speakers). Even going out east to states like Tennessee, Pennslyvania, and [upstate] New York are great drives.
The main thing I remember about most trips when I lived in IL is the drive back through the Chicagoland area is the worst. Driving back on a trip through this area when its dark out is tough because you just want to get home and Illinois and Indiana just blow to drive through and have a lot of cops even in the rural areas. I remember one time I did a day trip to Silver Dollar City, and after doing the 8 hour drive out there and spending the day there, driving back to Chicago that night was pretty tough trying to make it through southern/central Illinois, after that kind of day driving through the endless Chicagoland cities is just annoying and exhausting.
I think by far the most impressive/rediculus drive thats been documented on this site was the one Ben/Eric did for that trip all the way out to western Canada. Now that is a very, very long drive.
