SFGAm 05-08-10

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Superbleachbrothers on May 10th, 2010, 6:03 am
2 weeks after I went to GA during OD, I went back to the park. The weather was unpredictable, I did not know that the rain came to park. Left the house around 11:00 and came around 12:30ish. I thought the park would be DEAD since the weather was going to cold; however, THERE WERE ALOT OF BUSES FROM SCHOOLS. They mostly came here for some kind of Cheerleader contest. I also noticed that some teens had safely goggles possibility because of Science day or something. There were also music groups (Mostly Choirs and Bands) from middle schools and high schools. It was one of the largest amounts high school and middle school kids at SFGAm I have ever scene.

As always, the pictures.

Hello Raging Bull and Viper.

Why is a cop from Gurnee comes to GA all the time?

Image
This is why there is a million teens here.

I met up with my friend's family with 4 kids at Wiggles World. My friend stayed with the family and I went single.

I went to the Little Dipper construction and saw that half of the ride is now painted white, station is now built, and many more!

Image
See why?

Image
The first rider was Jon, Then the second rider was Carl.

I went over to the SAA dirt area and saw that NOTING was updated. I'm still waiting for Chang.

Image
I discovered the Marriott Model from 1977 in the Carousel Gifts shop. I looked at the model and I was stunned how the park was changed from that year and now.

Image
Was the Whizzer RED? I thought it used to be white!

Image
How long has the police car been there for. Since 1992?? What's also mysterious about this ride is that the ride was opened the year that I was born.

Image

I went over to Superman and It was the longest wait of the day.

Image
I went to the 8th row of the ride and I discovered something on the hill near the staff parking. (Where Shockwave pieces were) I was not wearing my glasses on IW; however, I saw something blue and yellow on the hill. It looked like Chang tracks and supports from Kenkucky. I was shocked that I saw the tracks. I do NOT have a pic of Chang's tracks.

Image
V2 got axes to my ass.

Image
While I was around the carousel shop, There was a squirrel running around that scared the crap out of me. So took a picture of him and a staff member came from the Pictorium and showed her the picture and she laughed how funny it was.

Image
While In Hometown Square, It started to hail like crap and it TOOK DOWN ALL OF THE RIDES for about 20 minutes or less.

Superman is thinking about Chang.

At SFGADV someone had a sense of humor as this sign is placed right next to the bathroom :)

Great PTR! A few comments of mine are below.

Whizzer was never red. That is just the color they used for it on the model.

That is the southern end of the Southern Cross Sky Ride. If you notice in that area, there is a sign that says "Future Development". The plan was that in 1979 Marriott's was going to build "The Great Southwest", and that station would be in the middle of it. That never happened, and the sky ride was closed and removed in 1982.

I don't know the full story, but Southwest Territory is either built from, or modeled after the plans for "The Great Southwest", which opened in 1996 on the same plot of land.

I was on STT on Saturday, and I don't recall seeing anything on that hill. I'm going back to the park this weekend, so I'll have to check it out and see. If there is anything out there, I'll take some pictures from STT.

SFGAm has an agreement set up with the Gurnee police department to patrol the grounds. They have a trailer set up in the employee access road as a makeshift police department.

It is because of the damn school groups! I know the feeling this guy went through. There is no worse feeling then a cloudy/damp day where NOBODY should be there, and then you show up only to find the parking lot EMPTY and the bus lot looking like people trying to park at Woodstock 69.

It is one of my top 10 buzz kills. The prospects of an empty day and no waiting are so quickly killed. Then we know that we have a day full of people running around in overpriced superhero capes, basketballs bouncing around everywhere, hilariously sad conversations from young guys trying to look good in front of their female classmates.

Maybe more parts of Chang are now on-site? They needed to ship the rest sooner or later. Brian let us know about this months village board meeting. When is it again?

They can't that late. It takes a while to get it passed completely. They need to do land clearing by August.

Next meeting for the ZBA is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, 2010 beginning at 7:30 P.M

At this time, the agenda has not been set. That will take place about 5-7 days before the meeting date. So, we should know by May 21st what the agenda is, or if the May meeting will be cancelled.

Do you agree that August or September is a bit late to apply? When it takes more than a couple days usually to get everything passed, signed and for pre-construction work to begin?
