Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby bobbinbop20 on March 29th, 2009, 7:50 pm
my wonderful off season continues with Six Flags Discovery Kingdom this time. This park is actually quite impressive, not because of the coasters but how much there was to do other then coasters, as im sure many of you know they also have animals at this park. On friday the park wasn't crowded at all and lines were short, but on saturday that place was a mad house! strange enough the lines were not even long, i guess because there was so much else to do at this park.

Ride Count:

-Boomerang (I Finally got one! and I LOVED IT) - 3
-Cobra (kiddie) - 2
-Kong (SLC) DEATH DEATH DEATH!!! the one i rode in mexico was much much better - 1
-Medusa (floorless) smooth as glass - 6
-Road Runner Express (other kiddie coaster) - 1
-Roar (my first GCI, it was great! And also my 50th coaster) - 4
-Tony Hawk (I liked the one in Texas better) - 2
-V2 (I really love the 45 degree tower!) - 29

Before pictures, a quick story about the interesting "deal" we found while staying in a San Francisco hotel!

The Intamicy kit!

Whats an Intamicy kit you ask?

scroll down and see for your self!

Image
and the best part its only $10!!!

Image
See! (the last one on the list)

That was Probably the Highlight of the trip! And now onto some pictures of actual coasters!

Image

Image
we decided to go to this first because we knew everyone would flock to medusa

Image
as you can see this is the old sign from when it used to be identical to our V2

Image
I knew it would be empty on this side of the park

Image
on our second day we just rode it for a full hour in the morning without leaving to walk around. they got 14 cycles in an hour

Image
The money seat was definetly seat #20, it provided some awesome hangtime on this part of the ride

Image
Next was Roar

Image
This ride was actually very fun

Image
Them be millennium flyer trains

Image
Agreed!

Image
extreme

Image
Lift hill shot

Image

Image
The park was divided into three sections.... sea....

Image
....Land....

Image
And...Sky!

Image
Medusa was very smooth and fun

Image
The only down side was this crew SUCKED!! They were mean, slow, and just overall pathetic.

Image
They were even sending off trains with full rows empty when there was a line!

Image
overall these people earned my worst crew of the year award.

Image

Image
Floorless!

Image
This was a great first drop

Image
That loop is HUGE!

Image
Why are these signs always so wrong? Even with the horrible ops it was only like 7 minutes from that sign...

Image
Tony Hawk's Big Spin

Image
My very first one, and i love it!

Image

Image
The weird thing was when we were next to ride it broke and they made everyone leave, i thought i would never get the chance to ride a boomerang...

Image
But I did! the real question is, is the train going forwards or backwards? hmm i guess will never know

Image
Do all boomerangs have this cool teeth catch car thing?

Image
The other Vekoma ride at the park was just god awful, i think i can honestly say that was the worst rollercoaster ive ever been on, i liked the one at six flags mexico a hundred times better, this was just like death.

Image
This was one of the kiddie coasters for my credit whore self

Image
and this was the other

Image
I love how there's so many rows

Image
I really loved this thing!

Image
The park was really beautiful

Image
One of these was my favorite and one was my least favorite. can you figure it out?

Image
More rides on V2 or V1.5 or whatever you call it

Image
Incase you forgot who created this ride.

Image

Image

Image
Incase you didnt figure out by now this is what is different compared to our V2

Image
I Love these! get soaked then go dry off on Velocity, sounds good to me

Image
Since the parking lot is like a mile away they have trams

Image

And now for some pictures of the animals they have there

Image
This was the Shouka Killer whale show.

Image
We ended up seeing it twice because it was hot and there was shade and somewhere to sit.

Image

Image
uh a little help here please!?

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
Hello im a dolphin, Whats your name?

Image
elephant!

Image
yes they gave elephant rides.... for 10 bucks.

Image
They had these crazy squirrel looking things that were all hyped up on cafeine

Image
grrr

Image

Image
I swear this thing was dead

Image
funky face

Image
lazy

Image
the Tunnel of death

I don't feel pain and torture of an SLC (SFKK, and former Gaugea Lake), but I get the feeling of what just happened. Maybe, it's the spacing of those rides, and that's why I feel that way. It's just one element after another after another.

For Batman, I see the first loop, than I see this straight track, and I see another loop coming up. Take a break, and go around in a helix, and here comes another element (wingover) followed by more break, and than another element (wing part 2), and than you are done.

So, did you like that V2 better than our V2, or is our's better in your opinion? I'm a ride person more than an animal person even though I do like to go to the zoo's. Without the heavy discounting, a Six Flags park is like $54.99 for ours, and that to me is too much money to not get that many roller coasters, some flats, and animals. The animals I feel I can just go to the zoo, and that place is not only a place to go most of the day, but it's much cheaper. I like animals, but I just rather have rides than animals.

I have been to Busch Gardens, and if I lived in that area, I would probably go there as often as Great America because there are hardly any flat rides, and it doesn't have 12 roller coasters (It has 6). It's a good vacation park to go to, but it just doesn't have that many rides over there.

^hmm good question im not exactly sure which V2 better,I did really like theres and the barrel roll type thing was awesome, but i would have to go on ours a few more times to know for sure (iv'e only been on ours 5 times and the one there 29 times) I do like the color scheme on the one there better though.

And yeah i wouldnt pay that much to go there either but ive already got well over my moneys worth for my 2009 season pass so i dont have to worry about admission

Did SFDK finally decide to keep the wheel covers off of V2? I know for a while they had them on and there were pictures floating around the internet with them on. I know SFGAm has/had them but never decided to use them due to the fact that they just got in the way considering they are always changing/roating the wheels...but they did look kind of cool.

^For the rcdb.com photos, in 2002 they don't have them on it. Maybe, it was only the first year (2001). These pictures they don't have them on either.
