I haven't been on this site in ages (actually 2 years) so I thought to share with you my experience at Six Flags St. Louis.
After a 4-hour drive from Memphis to St. Louis, my fiancee and I made it to Six Flags at 10:00am. The first ride that we rode was Evel Knievel. AWESOME RIDE. The first drop is a killer and the twist, curves, headchoppers, and airtime are to die for. Definitely a good ride to ride in the back.
Second ride of the day was Mr. Freeze. Good ride once again, back row.
The rest of the rides, in order.
Tony Hawk's Big Spin was the longest wait of the day - 30 minutes. The ride made me extremely dizzy, but it was worth it.
The Boss - We lost to the Boss as the ride was extremely rough.
Ninja - Rough Multi-Looper
Screamin Eagle - Rather smooth suprisingly.
Tidal Wave - Ah, hits the spot. It was hot at the park.
River King Mine Train - Relaxing after riding all of those "big scary coasters".
We left the park at 3:00pm and drove back to M-Town. We made it back safe and sound.
Good Notes: The crowds were pretty moderate. The lines in all of the rides were not that long at all (except for Tony Hawk). Funnel Cakes
Low Note: The Locker Patrol was in full force. Because my fiancee brought a bag with her, we had to purchase a locker to store it in so that we could ride the rides. Lucky we did this at the beginning of the day when we rode Evel Knievel. Unfortunately, it is only good for two hours. So when we got off the Boss, we had to backtrack to the front of the park to get her backpack (across from EK).
Evel Knievel is an awesome coaster. We never went in the back row, since my daughter only wanted the front.
What were your impressions of the park? I thought the park was, like chitown stated, a very underrated park in the chain. It has a good balance of coasters, and flat rides.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.
^ I know you were not directing that towards me but, I feel that the park would be perfect with some sort of Hyper installed (although I might be that kind of person that would like a hyper in each park). I was actually surprised that they got another wooden.
Anyways, good trip report. I also hate the boss with a passion. I can not ride it without twisting my back or something. I think that it's more so those trains they use instead of the actual ride. They seem heavy. Anyways, can't wait until next month to ride E.K.
RBull4life: I love Six Flags St. Louis. I do believe that the park is very underrated in so many levels. The selection of rides are awesome, the layout of the park is pretty easy to figure out, and the park itself is beautiful. I heard a rumor that the Goliath at SFOG was actually supposed to go to SFSTL, but not sure how true that is. There is a lot of land surrounding the park so the potential of installing a similar type of coaster is possible.
traincrossing9: It is strange that you mentioned this. We heard the squealing in the parking lot coming in to the park. Wasn't sure if this was normal or not. I'm guessing that its not.
I forgot to mention that we avoided riding their version of the Batman: The Ride. The last time I rode it, it was extremely rough. I didn't want to take a trip back down memory lane of experiencing pain and discomfort.
The only thing LC3, about the park layout, was the extremely unusual location of the entrance to Screamin Eagle. We never would have found it if we did not just happen to stumble upon it. Also, there are quite a few dead ends.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.
When they installed Superman:POT, they re-routed the entrance to Screamin Eagle. I can see how that's confusing. Not sure about the other dead ends that you're referencing to.
I was there on the 19th too. You had better luck with the lines than we did. We did get there early enough to ride EK, Freeze, Xcaliber, and Boss with little waiting though. Then the place just got packed. You did leave fairly early though. It appeared to us that by around 4, the parking lot was completely full. I know that around that time the waterpark had reached capacity and it took a good half-hour to get back in after we left to get a late lunch. We had a nice day there though. EK is a great ride (didn't notice too much squealing). We really liked MrFreeze. Boss wasn't AS rough as I thought it would be-not saying much though. Ninja's not the greatest looper ever but at least it was practically a walk-on even though the park, to us, seemed very crowded.
We ran into several dead ends too. The map didn't help us either. Guess we were just more stupid than usual that day. We liked the park in general though. Nice setting, lots of mature trees and plants. The waterpark is pretty small and was insanely crowded but it was decent. The lazy river and Hook's Lagoon were nice.
We went back Sunday morning and hit up the rides we did not have the patience to wait for on Saturday: Big Spin, Eagle, Superman, Mine Ride, Scooby-Doo, and Colossus.
Really wish we had gotten EK here in Chicago, but our waterpark is SOOO much bigger and better and...two words..."Raging Bull".
I never really thought The Boss was THAT rough, its jarring to be sure, but I think it's kinda fun that way. Glad to hear Evil Kenivel is a great woodie, as I thought the park could have used another coaster when I was there last.
Best two parts of the park though: The Scooby Doo blaster dark ride and the head chopper on Ninja, that thing gets me everytime. Now I wanna go back.
