Aug 11 & 12- Novel

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Mr. SFGAm on August 12th, 2003, 9:28 pm
Monday, August 11thMe and four friends arrived at the park at about 9:30. According the the sign, V2 may not be operating. Deja Vu wasn’t even on that list! We got in, and made our way to Superman, to find it wouldn’t open for a while. So we went to the train tracks. At 10:00, the chain dropped and we were off to our first coaster....Batman: The Ride: 0 min waitThis ride never ceases to amaze me. Everytime I ride it, It feels even faster than the last. It was awesome, and really intense. 10/10.We started making our way further back into the park, noting that V2 was indeed not operating. Once in Yukon Territory, my friends thought it would be great to catch a ride on.....Spacely’s Sprocket Rockets: 0 min waitThis was a lot better than I thought it would be, and I thought it was quite fun! 5/10Walking into County Fair, we saw that Iron Wolf wouldn’t open until 11:00, so we went to American Eagle, which was also not open yet. And then found the same thing with Deja Vu. So, we went to the only operating coaster in County Fair.....Demon: 5 min waitI still love this ride, and as stated many times the theming goes a long way for this ride. Awesome air on the first drop! 7/10Now, on to Southwest Territory to catch a ride on....Viper: 20min waitOn my past few visits, I haven’t been having those awesome Viper rides like I used to have. But this time, I rode in seat 1:3, and WOW!!! I was out of my seat the whole ride. I now am a believer in the power of seat 1:3! I just wish they’d do something with that station. We were in there for so long, I now have that recording memorized!10/10The park had now become VERY crowded, and the sky didn't look good. We walked past Raging Bull, and saw two train op, and two full que houses. We decided to skip it. We walked back into County Fair, just as they were opening the line for....American Eagle: 5min wait.Only backwards was open. This ride was a little bumpy, but there was a lot of airtime, even after the big helix. I still can’t decide if I like it better than forwards though! While we waited, they kept playing the bad weather recording, but it never closed.8/10It was past 11:00, and Iron Wolf had every single switchback open, and a full que. So, into Yankee Harbor we went, were we found V2 operating, with the line over the bridge. We then found Superman still not operating yet, so we took a spin on....Columbia Carousel: 10 min waitWhat can I say, carousels are all the same to me, but the top is better! 4/10Sky Trek Tower: 5min waitThis is a nice ride. When we were at the top, we saw a bunch of people swarming by Superman’s entrance, and on our way down, people started going up the line. Once off of Sky Trek Tower, we made a mad dash for....Superman: Ultimate Flight: 25min waitThis ride is awesome. I think the best part is from “assuming the position” to the end of the pretzel loop. The rest is ok. We got the bad weather spiel on this one too. 8/10Lines were now getting outrageous. We caught a rides on...Whizzer: 1hr wait.Still a good ride to relax and have fun on. I’m glad they held on to this one! 7/10Raging Bull: 1hr10 min waitTwo full que houses, with three train operation. We got to the fastlane entrance when one train got stuck on the lift, the other on the midcourse, and one between the shed and the station. It took about 10 mins to fix. We then had an absolutely awesome ride on the teal train. Nothing beats that first drop!!10/10American Eagle Red: 45min waitGreat airtime, but the brakes ruined the second half. They were frequently racing the trains which is wonderful to see! Keep it up! 8/10Triple Play: 15min wait. This is now my favorite flat at Great America! 10/10We boarded the Scenic Railroad to County Fair, were we caught another ride on Demon, which got stuck on the lift, but we waited it out . It was only about 10mins. After that, we were sick of lines, and it was about 7:00. So we went off to our hotel.Tuesday, August 12thI will sum this up pretty fast because we rode almost all of the same rides over again.Arrived at opening. Our rides are as follows:Raging Bull: 20min wait..... 10/10Viper: 30min wait.....9/10Demon: 10min wait......7/10Spacely’s Sprocket Rockets: 0min wait....5/10Iron Wolf: 45min waitI don’t know what it is, but this ride seems rougher every time I ride it. I rode the sameway I always do, and I braced myself for all of the rough spots, but today it just didn’twork. I think this is now a “once per visit if there is a short line” ride. 5/10We then waited an hour and a half for Batman, and after that we just left because it was so busy. On our way out, we saw Demon’s line was out the entrance, and we knew it was definately time to go! We ended up checking out Gurnee Mills, which I thought was a very nice mall! The Good Points: All coasters were running to capacity, all flats were open(exceptHometown Fun Machine) and the staff on the rides were especially nice. The place wasclean despite the crowds, and the food was not too bad!The Bad Points: I was quite disappointed that on Monday, five coasters did not open withthe park. V2, Superman, American Eagle, Deja Vu, and Iron Wolf were all closed for thefirst part of the day.I still did not get to ride Deja Vu, but I don’t really care anymore! And I didn’t get to rideV2, because it was either packed, or broken.Even though the park was packed, we still had fun. Sorry if I rambled to much, but it wasquite the trip!
Finally Coaster Season!!

On Monday, I just had to buy a fastlane because of the lines. It was really bad. Does it have to do with the 2 for 1 tickets?
