SFGAM-7/05/03- Superhero Sat.- 23 Rides In One Morning

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby SonOfBeast06 on July 28th, 2003, 9:59 am
First, I apologize for this TR to take so long to finish up. I have been quite busy over the last couple of weeks. It was the morning after July 4th and it was my first ACE Event in quite some time. I had not been to one in almost four years so I was extremely excited to return to one. Though I am not a huge fan of ACE Members in general, I was just plainly excited to be riding Superman for an hour of ERT in the morning.Once we got to the park, we were instructed to wait outside the parking gates in order to get our SS information. We were let into the park at a little before 9 AM and got our special goodie bags. After this, it was the running of the bulls to Superman for ERT.ERT was a completely AWESOME for this one hour. Most of the ACE Members there only took one or two rides on S:UF then headed over to V2 for the rest of the hour. This meant choice of free seating for S:UF. I got in 13 rides over the total hour that I was there. Several were taken in the back and in the middle with one or two in the front seat as well. Because of the small amount of ACER'S there, we managed to stay on the same train for almost the entire hour! Now that is what I like to call power riding. SFGAM rolled out one of their good ride crews for the ERT. They were racing each other to see how fast they could get the restraints locked into place.S:UF: 10/10As soon as the park opened at 10, we headed over to Southwest Territory next. We got two rides on Viper right in a row due to no wait. The airtime on this woodie is fantastic!! What has Great America done to this thing????Viper: 10/10Once we were finished getting our loads and loads of airtime for the morning, we headed over to Raging Bull. We found only a five minute wait each time! The line was on the stairs. This crew was moving all three trains out nicely this morning, so capacity issues were next to nothing. GA even managed to let a lot of riders use the Fastlane entrance as a cutback! Managed 4 rides on this! Brakes were being applied heavily.RB: 9/10The rest of our morning and early afternoon consisted of this:American Eagle: 2 times, 10 minute waits each. Both were backwards. Good airtime this morning! The brakes in the helix were being used lightly this morning. Provided a great ride!AE Backwards: 9/10Demon: 1 Ride, 5 minute wait. Decent ride as always. Ouch! Head hurt in the corkscrew! 8/10Batman The Ride: 1 Ride, 40 minute wait. Fun, intense, pretty smooth. The only complaint here was the slow moving line due to tons of stacking. Plus the number of people smoking in line were ridiculous, as they usually are here for some reason. Anybody know why?B:TR: 9/10Queue Line: 2/10After Batman, we made the decision to leave early (about 3:00 PM) due to the excessive heat and all of the crowds that were arriving. I think many people were either on hangover or just did not get up at all in the morning, because the park was extremely empty until about 1:30.All in all, it was a fantastic day at the park. I am very glad that the weather held out.Positives:-The Ride Ops on most of the coasters (Batman being the exception, of course) were very efficient today. I was impressed!- I did not notice any line jumpers all morning.- The food service at the food court was decent, plus the employees seemed pretty nice.Negatives: Only One- Too much smoking in the Batman queue.Overall score for the day: 9.5/10, got in 23 rides on coasters  .Thanks for reading! I shall have a TR for my trip to PKI very soon!-
SFGAM: next trip: Soon!

Nothing! Thats whats great about it, after 8 years, it's still untrimmed and itself! Why can't AE be that way? I can live with AE being trimmed sometimes as long as Viper stays raw. Its the only SF woodie I've been on (out of 2 parks lol) that is both awesome, and untrimmed.

Oh come on Travis, Big Dipper is awesome and untrimmed! It's a 1926 classic! Good TR. I love when they make coaster events and there is actual ERT, not fake Coastermania ERT.

Yeah, but Big Dipper is not a huge woodie like AE. All the big woodies I have been on have been trimmed to some degree. The exception is Son of Beast. However, this giant woodie needs to be trimmed because when the train reaches max speeds, it shuffles really bad. I have a knot on my knee as a battlewound from this ride. I foresee SOB being trimmed heavily in the future.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I have never been on SOB, but I am going to PKI hopefully this weekend. Is it really that bad?

LOL, Coasterzak, I know exactly what you mean about Coastermania! I probably got no more than 4 rides in any ERT session at that event. I have to admit, it was real nice practically having S:UF to ourselves for an hour :) . The ride ops were also making our experience fun by racing each other. Needless to say, it was pretty hilarious to yell out to the waiting GP (whom were lined up to the carousel by 9:45) from the lift hill.I am very confused about SOB. I rode it only about 2 and a half weeks ago, and I recieved some very good rides on it. The front seat was amazing, though I will have to say that the back seats were rough. Maybe it was the way that it ran in the rain during a lightning storm  (story to come later)! Why is it that SOB gives good or bad rides sometimes? I am just curious.
