SFStL 4/01 Opening Day

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Danhockey04 on April 2nd, 2006, 12:39 pm
Crowds: Light-Moderate (heavy for opening day)
Weather: Sunny, no clouds, ~75
Rides Closed: Superman: Tower of Power

We headed over and before they opened the park, they had a actor do a skit before it opened and had beach balls hitting around too. They were so friendly compared to last year, it is a whole new park. We headed over to Mr. Freeze first for some amazing front row first dispatch Freeze. After we got off, it broke for about 10 minutes. Then over to Scooby, which was a lot of fun, we rode it 3 times in total. Then we went around the park getting all the coasters before lunch.

Boss was running much better than last year, it has moved up in my top 10 wooden coasters. Also, it is still a little painful, but the intensity has gotten better.

Eagle so much nicer with the new paint job on it, it was also running very smooth with the new track. It looks real nice and has a new spiel.

River King is still the same as last year, a fun little mine coaster.

Ninja, that has gotten worse, it is more head banging and more painful than ever, but it still has the greatest head chopper in the world, nothing can beat that.

Batman, this was running extremely fast, it seemed as, if not more, intense than SFGAm's which was a surprise because last year it ran really slow.

After this it was time to eat, and we headed of to Moose Burger Lodge, after this we went over to Scooby, which was closed for maintance, which postponed the showdown.

After this we did various things and rode various rides.

Then the showdown came, and Jeff won, sadly. I took third only 250 points behind Josh who took second.

Then the last ride of the day, Scooby. We rode this and I got my personal high for the day, and I do have a picture which has to be developed and all before I can show it, my high was 267,250 points.

The biggest surprise of the day, Rush Street Flyer was open

Total rides:
MrF: 6
BTR: 3
RKMR: 2
Eagle: 2
Boss: 2
Ninja: 1
Scooby: 3
Swings: 1
Joker's Inc: 1

and others that I cant recall at the moment

Further note, Superman looks really nice with the paint job and Bugs Bunny National Park looks very nice there, it was with a lot of detail.

well, your report is accurate enough....

my personal best of Scooby came at night for my last ride, with 52,000. For my first time there, I thought the park was a nice little park. I wish i could have gotten to soak in the theming and the atmosphere more. I took some pictures, maybe i'll post them when i get them developed.

This is very true, I just love that head chopper but the roughness keeps me from enjoying the whole ride.

I was there as well on Saturday. It was a great day the weather was perfect and the moderate crowds made for much ride time.

The friendlyness of the staff at SFStL was the thing I noticed most. I must have shook hands with at least 10 employees. From what I hear from the people I was with(some were employees) they have a policy of shaking hands ond talking to at least 5 guests per day. I also got to meet and talk with the GM of the park, He is very friendly and will talk to any one.

The other thing I notice is how many of the characters were out. It was great to see and I hope this is going to happen at SFGAm as well.

The weird thing that happened to me was when I was getting off Screaming Eagle an employee stopped me to ask my opinion on the breaks on it. He said he asked because I was in ACE. I told him the breaking was very smooth, but really what do I know about breaking I just ride the coasters. :)

Over all it was a fun day and worth the drive for me.

Yes yesterday was a really really good day. My Dad commented that he had a much better time this year than the past two, and that they were catering to the families so much more.

I'll post a picture TR tonight when I get home from work. (Illinois damn tollway caused a 50 minute backup today so I'm home late)

Sounds like fun. I think this year would be a good year to go back and give it another chance.

He was asking you about it because of the new control system they installed. Previously SE used to go 60 - 0 in about 50ft on a single brake run. The abrubt stop had a tendency to make ones stomach get smashed all the way to the back somewhere near the kidneys. Those of us who were used to it just grab the bar in front of us, and then we listen to the painful groans of the other riders who didn't know.

Sadly these gleefully sadistic days are gone. SE got new paint on half the track & structure, new seat padding in the trains, and new paint on the trains, a new spiel highlighting its 30th anniversary, and two brake runs prior to the station, plus the ability to adavnce the train clear into the station meaning no more fun stops that shake the whole damn platform
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.

I hope they give our Eagle just as much attention. Sounds like Screamin Eagle is a whole new ride.
