My 1st Trip To Great America (7/11/03)

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby LC3 on July 14th, 2003, 4:03 pm
While visiting my friend in Chicago and touring the most fabulous city out there, we mananged enough time to visit Great America on Friday. This was my first visit to Great America and I was so anxious to get there and ride some of the rides there. We arrived there around 11:00 am and the lines to get into the park were kind of long. Once we managed to pass the security check, we walked around the park to gather a good view of the scenery and landscape. The first ride we rode was Ragin Bull. It only took us about 30 minutes to wait in line and it was worth the wait. That ride was so awesome and was really fun. Then we got on Giant Drop. The wait for that ride was around 20 minutes.Everything was going really good at that point until we got in the line for Demon. While waiting in line, there was a family that was in front who was allowing for their own siblings to come up and skip in front of us. At first, two girls came out of no where and skipped (which really didn't bother me). But when we were close to the actual ride, two more siblings decide to come out of no where and skip. What really top the cake to this story is that as they were skipping, one of the ride operators saw them jump in line and he didn't do anything. That really made me mad, so I decided to handle the situation myself. I told that ride operator what happened and he finally decided to tell them that they would have to get at the end of the line. That made the family really mad, but I didn't care one bit.Anyway, we finally got on Demon and that ride was ok. Then we headed to Splash Waterfall and noticed that the same family who were mad at me for snitching got in that same line as well. They gave me a dirty look and I gave them one back. The line for Splash Waterfall was pretty short so it took us no more than ten minutes to get on that ride. After getting soaked, we headed to American Eagle and rode the backwards train (blue I think). That was pretty scary, but fun at the same time. That wait was around 30 minutes. Then we headed to Iron Wolf. This is where the day goes wrong again. No one tried to skip this time, but the discomfort of the ride in certain areas of my body was not enjoyable at all. Also, the back of my ear was slightly bruised by bumping it to the side of the overhead restraint while going through the corkscrew. It still hurts a little right now, but I will be ok.After getting of Iron Wolf, we headed to V2. The wait was around 45 minutes and the ride was great. It would have been a shorter wait but some people were using fast passes and one girl was in a wheelchair so they let her get on automatically. I guess that having a handicap (temporary) is of an advantage when going to Great America. Then we rode Batman and the wait was around an hour. Again due to fast pass users and the handicap, it took a long time to get on the ride. After Batman, we headed to Superman and the line for that ride was ridiculous. We were in line for over an hour. Tickets were even distributed at the entrance of the line so that no one would try to skip.As we were getting closer and closer to the ride, the blue sunny sky began to turn dark and dreary. I began to feel rain drops and was worried that we wouldn't be able to ride it. Once we made it to the ride itself, the sun reappeared. I have never been so scared in my life when I was riding Superman. I screamed my lungs out and even closed my eyes as we were going through the pretzel loop. However, that was one of the best rides I've ridden in a long time. When we got of Superman, we went to the sourverniur store and bought some things. Then we realized that we forgot to ride one other roller coaster and that was Viper. When we made it back to Viper, the clouds began to look gloomy again. The wait time for that ride was around 25 minutes. That was a very good ride. There were certain points in the ride where I felt myself coming out of my seat. Viper is a A+ ride in my book. Then around 5:00 pm, we headed towards the gate and as soon as we got into the car, it began to rain (really hard). I guess that the gods above us wanted for us to enjoy our day a Great America and they certainly allowed that to happen.Overall, I will give my trip to Great America an 8 out of 10. I would have given it a perfect score if1) Deja Vu was open (the ride looks pretty fun)2) Those kids didn't try to skip us on Demon3) I didn't slightly injure myself on Iron Wolf.I would recommend this park to anyone and I plan on returning to Great America hopefully next year. :D
