Help planning a trip to Cedar Point

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby raginbullrider on July 8th, 2008, 4:25 pm
My family isplanning a trip to cedar point and we are going July 20-23. I have only been thereonce before about 5 years ago. My family lives in illinois and i believe it is about a seven hour drive and my family doesn't lie to drive that long and with the high gas prices we are thinking of flying to ohio and driving a rental car the remainder of the way to cedar point.

What is the nearest airport to cedar point, Is i worth flying to beat traffic from oak lawn Illinois?

Does Cedar Point have anything Like the flash pass that lets you cut in line on the best attractions if so can can someone please post information on it?

Can someone please post infomation on the Hotel Breakers I have heard it was one of the best hotels for cedar point. I wul like information on the rates, the phon number and address for reservations.

How far is it from the park? I would like to be able to walk from the hotel to the park. I believe we stayed in the sandcastle last time we went and were able to walk to the park.

Thanks in advance for taking part to help our family plan a nice vacation

Cedar Point does not offer a FastPass unless you do the VIP tour (expensive) heres the FAQ pagehttp://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/faq.cfm

To get Hotel Breakers rates you have to enter your info to the the left of the screen on this link

As for airports, there is a Sandusky Griffing, but that may be a small airport and not have many major airlines.
Otherwise, the closest airport would be Cleaveland Hopkins, about 45 miles away.

Hope this helps

V.I.P tour is $400! $425 in October! PER person and you need at least 2 people. $800 is INSANE! Who would do that?

I rather do the VIP tour at CP rather than at Great America. Great America makes you buy 4 tickets for 300 dollars. Plus, CP has a lot more rides and would be much more fun.

But I'm still wondering if the CP VIP Tour gives you unlimited games, food, and other stuff like SFGAm.

And yeah it's 800 dollars but some people have the money to do that and it would be a great experience than just going to the park for a day.

Actually, plane tickets are like 200+ bucks per person!!! Plus renting a car, and the possibility of buying gas for that car! It would be outrageous to fly! Much cheaper to drive...

But if your parents REALLY hate driving the nearest BIG airport would be cleveland, but once again, plane tickets are VERY VERY VERY expensive.

So if you guys are really that desperate not to drive, hop on Amtrak railways from Chicago Union station to Cleveland, then get a rental car and drive it from Cleveland to Sandusky...

But the hotels at Cedar Point are crazy expensive... My family is going to stay in a regular Sandusky hotel, and buy a 2 day pass.

it would be faster to drive, and it does not take 7 hours to get there, more like 5 at the most)

so look at this

oak lawn to o hare, about half an hour
security 1 to 2 hours
wait for plane 30 min
filght 1 hour
luggage check 30 min
airport to CP about 45 min
"comfort" and food stops 1-1 1/4 hrs

total drive 5 hours
total fly about g hrs 45 min )at least)
the best thing to do would be to take Amtrak though like cowboy1192 said.

I just took a trip like this a few weeks back with a few friends, and we ended up paying less than $200 for everything, with staying in a CP-owned hotel. Depending on how your splitting up the costs, and how many people are going, in my opinion it could be worth it.

Also, keep in mind that you do get an hour early admission if you stay in a CP hotel. But then again... paying $40 extra may not be worth an hour of ERT.

We drove 10 hours from Appleton, WI back in may. I think total gas cost us about $140 in a 2000 Cavalier. It was way better and way eaiser than flying. Also if you drive, you can bring tons of food and a cooler full of drinks for the trip, that'll easily save you a few hundred bucks once you get to Sandusky versus buying food in the park or at Breakers.

Yes, it can actually take that long to get there, as not everyone drives right through. It depends on how long and how frequent you stop, as well as how fast you drive. I think that 6 hours is reasonable.
