I mean yea I love raceing down the initial drops but the drop is not everything to the ride. I think it is arrow that has annouced a 510 foot rollercoaster/freefall ride? After that point why dont you just go jump out of a plane? It wont feel like a roller coaster. I am kind of in a way disapointed with how fast the producers are pumping out these new hights and stuff. What is going to happen when you cant go any higher? Are we just going to tear down all the rides and/ or be bored on all of all them?I just want you to know this is my opinion and you dont have to agree. [/b]
I agree. I think that the manufacturers are starting to push the limits of how high they should go. How many people are going to want to ride something that is 500ft tall. Sure it will appeal to some of the public, but I am wondering how much.
My Top 5: 1)TTD, 2)Millennium Force, 3)Raptor, 4)Deja Vu, 5)Raging Bull
I am also wondering if parks will be able to afford these mammoth rides. The new one in Cedar Point cost 25mil and all it does is go up and come straight back down. If they wanted it to do anything else, i couldnt imagine the cost.

Yeah, it might have cost a lot, but people are really going to want to ride this beast. And that's what matters, I know I've already got a bunch of my friends wanting to go there just so they can ride it! And that's what Cedar Point wants, they want to draw attention to there park so that they get more guests... And the more guests they get, the more money to pay off that roller coaster!
I don't think we will have to go higher. All they have to do is come up with a great new idea. Like the flyer or 4D, both have alot of potential and we haven't even scratched the surface. Personally I think CP should give up the hieght record stuff. I mean you could get a MUCH better floorless coaster for $25 million.
I think they will go as high as their pocket books will allow. Arrow was trying to get a 700ft. plus coaster/drop ride (I believe), to go off the side of the stratosphere.I personally would rather see them focus on new ride ideas like the 4d rather than height. I would much rather prefer to wait for a 3 minute, 200ft. ride than a 15 second, 400 ft.+ ride. Thats just my opinion though, maybe it will change once I ride Dragster but I doubt it.
We will see if this 'one trick pony' (Dragster) will have a lasting effect on people in years to come. Sure, it will bring in the masses of people this season but eventually the nostalgia just might wear off.I am with Dave on the overall experience of a coaster. You dont have to be the tallest and fastest to have a great coaster. The other issue facing most parks is the cost and if the area they reside in will allow such a tall coaster. Case in point with SFGAm. Sure, they usually get what they want from Gurnee, but at 400ft tall and beyond, the village might just put a wrench in that program. From what I am told, Sandusky (where CP is located), doesnt have a restriction on heights of structures so I am pretty sure Cedar Fair didnt even have to go before the Sandusky board to get approval for MF or Dragster. This obviously is an advantage to them.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
Yeah I agree with Chitown. After TTD we will know how the public reacts to such great heights. I think that people will continue to be interested in taller and taller coasters. I know a lot of people that don't ride coasters that are only 100 feet because they like to be scared and high drops are what scares them, just like on MF. The public loved when that ride was opened to the public and a lot of us were saying that was the limit. Coasters will eventually be so tall and I am going to love it even more.
Yeah, taller and faster attracts more people... That's what I think. I mean, say CP opened a new ride that was 100ft. and went 50mph... How many people are going to drive like 12 hours like me, just to ride it? I know I'm definately making a trip to CP because they're opening a 420ft. coaster that goes approx. 120mph!
See, it attracts you, along with the GP. I have heard that they are really advertising all around the local states. People know about the ride and are going to swamp the park in hopes to get a ride on it.
Yeah I think I'd even like the 100 foot coaster, even though I don't mind 700 feet. I'm a sucker for hypers, giga's and I even might go on to say stratas.
See I can't put a value on how high I am willing to go. What is the difference from 600-650 that makes it unsafe. If they are going to build it, it's going to have to pass enough inspections and be safe enough for the public or the park is going to be making a mess with lawsuits.
I dont think that theres a height limit, but there is a land and money limit. They could build a 900 foot tall 4d if they wanted, but to make sure they dont pull over 5 or so gs, theyd have to make the bottom of all the drops (where it flattens out) longer. Thi would take up way too much space.
I think they are coming out with new rides way too fast that after a launched 4d comes out and a ride over 500 feet, there will be nothing new to attract people to the parks.
