Yes. Build 2-4 multi-million dollar coasters every year, and forget about what the parks looks like, and let them go to hell. Forget about customer service, and making sure that the entire family can enjoy their stay at one of your parks, because you don't have the money to fund any changes, since it is all tied up in coasters.
Oh wait, they did that, and the company wound up in debt up to their eyeballs.

So, I still agree with eaglefan.
I've come up with this all by myself, this may be way wrong but o well.
I think that SFGAm averages like 30 thousand people a day. Doesn't it? Well if it is around there, then SFGAm makes about 1,650,000 dollars a day just from entrance tickets. I came up with that by doing 30,000 times 55$. Since thats the new (way to expensive) price. And then there is the food sale prices and the parking money that they get. It's crazy. I know that they do have to pay tons for ride operation and paying the employees but that is a lot of money to get in a day. I don't see how SF can't just do all the stuff that they are doing this year along with building coasters.
30k per day X $55 a ticket? That is assuming no season pass holders, and nobody gets discounted tickets. I've been a manager at a few much smaller operations and the overhead is astounding. You are correct when you say that it takes 'tons' to operate the park. Outside of paying for labor, there is the utilities, land taxes, insurance, maintenance and repairs, and any new capital expenditure projects. Oh, and there is also the profit that goes to help operate the corporate office and help pay off the loans of Six Flags, Inc. Purchasing $10 million+ coasters every two years is not smart business for a regional park (unless you are Cedar Point.)
Personally, I could live without a new coaster for a few years and I like what Shapiro is doing. He took some negative pressure for what what he said during the conference call about the customer complaint and overall status of the parks (which helped to contribute to the share price dropping), but his honesty and overall drive impress me. SFI needs a 'hands-on' style CEO who is a public figure and who actually tours the parks, which Shapiro is doing. Replacing the GMs was a wise move to stir up things and let the other park GMs know that they need to improve or get out.
Hopefully our next ride will be something outside of another coaster. A dark ride would be a very wise choice if done well.
^ Right on the money. Plus, Great America is not individually owned. There are several other parks within the chain that does not do as well as our park does as far as profit goes. If Great America pulls a profit, and say SFStL, and Darien Lake report a loss, well then any profit you would have made with GA, is basically lost with the other two parks losses. Throw in a couple of $ 10 million+ coasters, and there you have it. In the red for another season.
Shaprio is doing the right thing. Give the company time to get back on its feet, and you can almost bet that several parks will be getting new rides, including ours.

It's more that there are too many failure parks that don't rank in the dough, then spending too much money on roller coasters. However, as I might have said before it's stupid for SFMM to get 8 roller coasters in 10 years. That's way too much for them, and they should have been spread around.
When I went to SFKK, it didn't LOOK bad. The rides weren't appealing to me. That's it, plain and simple. If your not satisfied with the park including the RIDES, then you don't go back. Considering that there are more SF parks that are just like SFKK, this is the reason why the parks aren't doing that great. Buying bad parks really led to huge amounts of money with not much profit.
Don't you think that if every park had what SFGAm had, every park would make huge amounts of money. And yes, our park does have those multi-million roller coasters!!! How many over 10 million roller coasters do we have? Don't we have Batman The Ride, Raging Bull, Superman Ultimate Flight, and Deja Vu??? Quality also gets you somewhere. The SLC's won't bring people in.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
The park is obviously getting a better reputation now that Shapiro is focusing on families. Yes, I's like a new coaster also, but the park is doing fine as it is. Why ruin it now? Plus, if we get a new coaster, we could use an original design, no clones. So once the park has enough money to add, I'm hoping they use it wisely.

. Really?
So what you are suggesting is that SFI continue to be concerned about coaster count, and the quality of the coasters, than worrying about the actual condition that the parks are in? Say if GA had great coasters, but the park was an absolute mess, gangbangers walking around, nothing to do except ride high thrill rides, and nothing else, I would visit the park maybe once a year, and I would find something else to do with my family on a weekend.
Its not like we are never ever, ever, ever, ever get another coaster, but I agree with Shaprio, that the company needs to get back on its feet again.

So, our park, the whole park is gang banger park??? If every ride that was by us including roller coasters was at Elitch Gardens, do you think that park might be up on the chopping block?
I also don't get how you can call teenagers gang bangers if that's what indeed you are saying. Every teen is not a thug!! Some teens are, but everyone is not! Look in your neighborhood, and look at the teens. Are they going to go busting out car windows, and getting drugs?
I can look at the roller coaster at Astroworld, and just see why that park was put up for sale. If they really wanted to, they could have kept it. If the place had better roller coasters, I doubt the place would have left altogether. It's just sad that the chain can't see what roller coasters are worth buying, and which aren't.
If this park had a V2, Superman Ultimate Flight, and a Raging Bull, do you really think that this park would have been dumped?? You might also need another coaster because they just junked the place with old roller coasters from other parks! Of course, it's gone, and there is nothing you can do about it now.
Batman The Escape Steel Stand Up 1993 10/30/2005
People say this was rough.
Greezed Lightnin' Steel Sit Down 1978 10/30/2005
People aren't too crazy about this. SFKK has no lines, and so did SFOG.
Mayan Mindbender Steel Sit Down 1995 10/30/2005
It's a kiddie coaster, and that doesn't really help.
Serial Thriller Steel Inverted 5/29/1999 10/30/2005
It's an SLC. Enough said!!
Serpent Steel Sit Down 1969 10/30/2005
It's another kiddie, and doesn't really help bring mobs of people in.
Texas Cyclone Wood Sit Down 6/12/1976 10/30/2005
I really don't know how this ride was. However, people usually like steel better than wood (at least the GP)
Ultra Twister Steel Pipeline 1990 10/30/2005
This ride was supposedly rough on the shoulders.
Viper Steel Sit Down 1989 10/30/2005
It was relocated from Six Flags St. Louis. It probably was good.
XLR-8 Steel Suspended
People aren't that crazy about suspended coasters in my opinion. There isn't much too them.
People have said a million times that Six Flags Magic Mountain is DIRTY, or something like that. I don't understand this at all. The park looked perfectly fine in my opinion. The only problem was the fact that they were running one trains on too many things. I guess the other thing was the fact that some of the other trains not being used looked bad. They needed help or something. The park is NOT dirty though!!

First, I never said that ALL teens were gangbangers, or troublemaker. I didn't mean to offend anybody here.
Second, what I was trying to say is that Six Flags is more concerned about spending money on improving the overall amusement park experiance for everybody to enjoy. That ranges from painting, new signs, maintence work, entertainers, parades, fireworks, and anything else. Sure you can spend any profit you make on a new coaster, but what good is that going to do for a family that has two parents, and a couple kids under 54"? Season pass holders = little or nothing. Families = $$$$. Nice clean park with enough stuff for everybody to enjoy = $$$$$. Families who really liked their time at the park, and will come back several times = $$$$$. $$$$= a new coaster. Its not like Great America will never get a new ride.
I enjoy our little conversations we have iluvevu'
