My sister and I had a conversation about the height "limit" for a roller coaster. We were discussing CedarPoints rumor for the 600ft. coaster( )....anyway, she claims that once or if this is ever approached, it should be it for height...the limit. These are her words: "they should stop there, its too tall........people should not be that high in the air unless theyre on a plane Oh shes funny.
So the question Im about to pop is, Do you think there is a limit to height in the future, and if so where should we stop before were falling from a coaster atop the sears tower ?
Roller coasters will stop being as tall as they are when financially it would make better sense to build a shorter coaster that the general public still approves of.
^ Its called "coasters of the west" and it was on travel channel like 2 years ago. I taped it and at the end it was talking about the future of coasters.
No FRD714, it was a 700ft. rollercoaster claimed from arrow....I have that on tape as well. Every episode on the travel channel about coasters, I have Theyre sorta old now....

Sorry but no.
Dropping does you no harm. Its the sudden stop at the bottom that kills you.
You can get up to the terminal velocity of the ride vehicle (point at which air resistance and friction equal the force of gravity... AKA 9.8 m/s) As long as the curves and brakes are gradual enough, you can go to any height. Just past a certain height ( depends on the design of each car.) you won't gain any speed.
As for that arrow coaster, it was called a fishhook design because it was to drop off the side of the Stratosphere tower in Las Vegas, NV. The drop would have been 700 ft. with a hook like shape at the end that was about 400 ft. tall. Basically drop down the side go up the other side rock back and forth a few times, get pulled back to the top. The plan was rejected by the Las Vegas planning comission as other hotels felt it would be too noisy; the plans for it were then canned.
I think once they perfect the Frequent Faller coaster, you can go as high as you want. I honestly think the next big coaster will be a frequent faller, rather than a rocket coaster.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter

The most recent Ive recorded is Megastructures
Was it really? I havnt watched it in a while. I know it said it would be taller than the statue of liberty and something else. O well, I was close.
Eh, its alright That fishook design had a model which looked fantastic. It was a little too big because we didnt even hear anything on dragster yet, so that 700ft. idea sounded insane. Now that 400ft. has been passed, the idea of 700ft. still sounds a little iffy......
Although if a coaster of that altitude was reached, I would like to see an intamin giga like layout cause it would be nice to have consecutive large drops after that super tall one. I would love if there was a holding brake like oblivions but the entire train was faced nearly verically starring at that massive drop, cause this would scare people ****less They could invent a new style for their lap restraints (like the x-cars) that would hold in riders at such heights and velocity....adding to what would feel like insecurity with such a simple lapbar.
And um...Yeah...frequent fallers are just ugly and pointless to me, I would much rather have one large drop downward instead of many small ones to the side
If any of you have heard of Paul Stapp. In his time he did a famous test with a rocket sled. He reached something around 40 g's, and it wasn't till he hit the brakes that it took the toll on his body. His eyes filled with flood and his organs were thrown forward due to his sudden stop. You can hit the speed of light and not die, you just need to have a great distance to stop.
Come on 40 gs I dont know about that? 6gs are enough to place negative effects upon a person. Jet pilots need special gear and crap so no harm is set....Do you guys know of that prototype tower coaster they were to release a couple years back?....wel the pull out from the nearly 180degree drop was so sudden that it would cost negative effects to the body, therefore as we know it has not been released and its only about 100ft. tall....
For now a 1000ft, even 700ft. coaster just sounds "impossible" or atleast unimaginable for now. I mean I can imagine it now...**Holy ****, OMG...look at that view, look down...(click...click...)....AAAHHHH-"zoom zoom"
But you know what that is what people thought before MF, or TTD.....and look were we are now.

Read more about Paul Stapp and his work with the deceleration project here:
Wow! There was just a show on Paul Stapp on Discovery Channel today. It had to do with the history of safety devices in cars and such. They showed the dozen or so tests he did with rocket sleds to see how many g's a human could withstand and still live. His theory was that a human could withstand extremely high g's as long as they were only exposed to them for fractions of a second and were properly restrained. (like when a pilot is ejected from an airplane) In Stapp's final sled run he hit over 40 g's, I think it was as high as 45, and he lived for 40 years after the test. As long as the forces are for a limited amount of time, and the human is properly restrained, humans can stand many many many times the g forces than would ever be created on a coaster.
Wow...I stand corrected So there really isnt a limit or......?
I forgot his name but there is a kinda older coaster enthusiast who rides anything(hes the one always on tv with the white hair and glasses) and he quoted that "they could take me to the moon and drop me back to earth..." I guess hes got a point???
Yup, with "lois lane" He always makes those "a-waho-waho" noises when he hits airtime....Ah, thats funny
Well Ive been visiting around sites and everyone is talking about a 500-600ft. and beyond coaster, so who knows? What is the limit, that is the question....
