Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Binks Drake on November 11th, 2005, 12:39 pm
Just announced, SFOT in Arlington Texas will create it's "largest expansion ever" (Steve Calloway, GM) with the addition of 10 new rides for the 2006 season.

Six of the announced rides are brand new. The other four come from other SF parks, including two from astroworld. The ten new rides will be spread around the park increasing the parks capacity by over 5,000 people.

• Blackbird, a nine-plane ride that moves up and down while turning in an oval, supplied by Zamperla.
• La Fiesta de las Tazas (The Festival of the Cups), a spinning saucer ride, supplied by Zamperla.
• Rock-N-Rocket, a rocket ship that swings 50 passengers through 360 degree loops, from AstroWorld.
• Huss Rodeo, a ride with bucking broncos, from Six Flags Great Adventure.
• Crazy Legs, which moves riders in a circular fashion in gondolas that spin in the opposite direction, from AstroWorld.
• Caddo Lake Barge, a large boat that rocks in a variety of motions on a track, supplied by Zamperla.
• Sidewinder, the traditional "scrambler" ride, from AstroWorld.
• Up, Up & Away, which lets riders view the park in carriages resembling hot-air balloons, supplied by Zamperla.
• Boot Scootin', which puts riders in boot-shaped cars, then bounces the cars up and down while moving in a circle, supplied by Zamperla.
• Interactive Spray Ground, a small water area with fountains and times jet sprays.

There was no info provided as to which ride will go where.
Nov. 10th, 2005 -- Arlington, TX - Six Flags Over Texas today announced a sweeping capital expansion project that will forever change the landscape of the 212-acre acre theme park and mark the largest capital expansion in the park's 45-year history!
In Spring 2006, Six Flags Over Texas will debut a phenomenal package of family rides that will give every Guest 10 new reasons to visit and 10 new reasons there'll be 10 times the fun at the best theme park in the Southwest!

"Remaining true to our tradition, the addition of 10 new family rides in 2006 represents a major commitment on the part of Six Flags Over Texas to keep delivering wholesome family fun, " said Steve Calloway, vice president and general manager. "Ten rides in one year is a huge investment. These new attractions provide a great ride experience to Guests of all ages and will be enjoyed by generations of families for years and years to come." This Texas-size expansion includes a host of the most innovative and exciting family rides in the industry. The new attractions will be located in different areas of the park, giving Guests a greater variety and the ability to maximize their visit to Six Flags Over Texas. Joining the ever-growing Six Flags Over Texas rides arsenal will be:

* Blackbird - Spread your wings and fly high in the sky as nine planes zip around an oval-shaped course. Each plane can accommodate up to four children or one adult and two children.

* La Fiesta de las Tazas - Spin around super fast or slow it down to savor the experience. This family favorite will leave Guests spinning with excitement.

* Rock-N-Rocket - Zip into orbit as the rocket and its 50 passengers make several exhilarating 360-degree loops before swinging back earthward for a gentle stop.

* Rodeo - True Texans love a good rodeo. Cowboys and cowgirls alike can test their riding skills on these bucking bulls. Saddle up!

* Crazy Legs - Whirling, twirling fun for the whole family. This "crazy" ride moves in a circular fashion with gondolas that move in the opposite direction.

* Caddo Lake Barge - A high capacity family attraction, the Caddo Lake Barge features a unique combination of rocking motions and has received top awards from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.

* Sidewinder - A ride with timeless popularity and commonly referred to as the "scrambler" received its original name from the way it looks while in operation, resembling scrambling eggs.

* Up, Up & Away - Experience a breathtaking view of the park while riding on unique hot air balloons. Up, up and away we go!

* Boot Scootin' - These boots are made for walkin' or in this case ridin'! Try these on for size in a one-of-a-kind interactive bouncing ride experience.

* Interactive Spray Ground - Loads of water fun for Guests of all ages. Another great place to cool off during those hot Texas summer months.

Glad to hear some of AW's rides will be spared. I thought SFGAdv's Rodeo Stampede was being relocated within the park.

Leave it to Texas to get" the biggest expansion ever", but they are Texas so they must do everything big. I too am also glad that some of AW rides were spared, I just hope that we get one of their cool rides like SWAT. That would be awesome!
I'm running to Bull on opening day, anyone gets in my way and they'll get trampled.

/\

Anyways, seems like a good expansion. Some of those (i.e. the plane ride) seem like kiddie/family rides, but that's good because you do need to have a well-rounded park.

They are obviously trying to appeal to families. Families=Money Money=More rides...possibly coasters. Why can't you people understand this it's simple!

You have to Figure in that they are expanding SFOT to A. Take in more poeple who will travel there due to the closing of AW, and B. It would cost SO MUCH LESS to transfer as many rides as possible WITHIN the state

^Very true. I think the expansion is a good idea. I think it would be cool to walk into Great America one year to be greeted by a new ride in every section. That would be so exciting. Smart planning on Six Flags' part.

Even if it does cost more, the cost to transport a ride between states is negligible when compared to the benefits it would produce.

for a few posts up, this is not the largest expansion ever, just the largest expansion at SFOT ever.

Largest Expansion would be SFGAdv's 25 new rides for the 1999 season (of which like 5 remain, not counting the kiddie rides)

yep, Revolution was their new for 1999 Pendulum (neat theme, loosely themed to the torture device featured in the Edgar Allen Poe story the Pit and the Pendulum).

Also another large expansion in SF history was turning Geauga Lake into SFO with 4 full sized coasters and a rather large family coaster. That really cost SF.
