Intamin's success product...

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on November 8th, 2005, 7:50 pm
As we all know, in 2002 the minical minds of Intamin gave us a new "breed" of coaster, introducing Xcelerator. Since then the world has received their own rocket-accelerator designs thrilling their guests with unbeleivable propulsion speed and height. This type of coaster has gone from big to massive then to small and thrilling to a new gigantic size, and given all their riders one hell of a trip. Now by the soon to come 2006, there will be 9 "unique" designs that will and once again thrill guests all over. Theyre the new fad in coaster demand and offer everthing from speed, air, height and fasination of shear design.

LOOK HERE...
2002-Xcelerator begins it all.
2003-Topthrill Dragster, just in one year gives us the first strata coaster.
2004-Stormrunner gives us more twists...the first hydraulic with inversions
2005-Rita and Kanonen prove height and speed isnt everthing.
2005-Kingda Ka brings TTD down to size and adds quick airtime
2005-SupermanEscape will give "rocket" an impressive theme and layout
2006-Speed Monster will give a unique layout surrounding the entrance.
2006-ProjectStealth will be first in UK, may not be unique but a nice peice.

Even from their successful thrill and still rising one at that, Some other sites and people think their fad needs to level out :o In other words...theyre getting old.
I think this fad or phase is amazing and hope it keeps going, but my question is this........
Do you guys think this is a good spreading "fad" or is it "dieing" to you?

Thanks for any comments :)

Seems to me that you read that out of an Intamin sales ad..

Nevertheless,

Rocket Coasters are in my opinion one trick ponies. Launch...Height...Brakes... whoopie.

Intamin's saftey record also has alot to be desired as well... While its great to go 450 feet and 130 MPH. Id rather ride something that has elements and airtime then height and speed.

I went to rcdb.com to double check if I was correct of each coasters opening dates and stats. From what Ive "learned" over the years about each coaster, I summurized that and put it in my own words hoping to make it sound good by giving it real information....it really did all start in 2002 and is still evoving into a high octane coaster race.

So nevertheless to you....it seems you dont like them? Do you think its getting old on the demand for more?

To me theyre the new Batman(inverted coasters in general), cause as you know that style was and really still is popular among everchanging theme parks.

Well let me ask you this...are woodies dying out? (ok kinda..) how about other types of steel coasters?

I think its still something new and it needs time to spread out around the world. I think they will be a better success as more compact models, due to the guests thinking they are going faster than they are in sharp turns. This type of coaster has a good 10 years atleast before it starts to die out.

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

I totally agree with you 8)
I do like them compact but spread out gives it a larger impression.

They are new and because of that and their possibilities, they are a popular demand now.

You know what though, theres been talk about parks receiving more of these accelerators in 2007/2008....so theyll still be around for a long time. These coasters are amazing and theyre just getting better...

I don't know if i like them and that is for one reason only. They don't seem reliable! To be quite honest, i would rather the Hurricane Harbor expansion this year than the Kingda Ka one because the coaster wasn't open too often to enjoy. That would be a disappointment to me and until they start to become more reliable, i am not really a fan yet. However, i have heard that they are fun.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(

Yeah but its mainly the bigger ones like TTD and KK that are less reliable. I dont really hear anything or that much on Stormrunner or Rita having multiple breakdowns for example. They look like so much fun, and have a certain style to them that I just love
