Kingda Ka at sfga?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby FRD714 on October 31st, 2005, 3:37 pm
No, this is not another rumor. This is a "what if we go it". Where would it go? I think if they took out eagle, there might be enough room to build it there. Now, Im not saying eagle is a bad ride and they should get rid of it, but Im guessing it's not going to be around forever and sfga does not have a lot of land for a new coaster. I was just thinking of how cool it would be if we got KK.

330 feet height limit. It would be another sw if it was only 330 feet tall since it wouldnt be popular. Plus we already have v2. Dont count on it. And im pretty sure this will be locked soon.

American Eagle will be if any, the one coaster that WILL stay around forever.

It's being retracked and it's a park landmark.

Don't count on it leaving for another 10-20 years.

I never knew we had a 330 limit. Im sure something can be done with this height.

If eagle is being retracked then it will stay around for a long time otherwise I doubt it would last. It needs to be retracked anyway.

Yeah, only, since 330 feet tall isn't that tall in the first place.

Why would we want a Kingda Ka anyway? I'd rather have a custom track that was more original then just a Launch - Top hat - Hill - Brakes. I'm thinking more Storm Runner-esque.

I thought KK was pretty cool and I will never get to ride it anyway. Sure a custom track would be great, but knowing six flags they will just re-use a track layout.

Eaglefan344....Im guessing you dont like this thread because I was talking about eagle being taken out. Its not going to happen anyway, all I was saying is what if we got KK and where would it go. Eagles spot would be the best because of the length, but it doesnt matter because were not going to get KK anyway.

I'd rather see a ~250 foot tall rocket with multiple elements such as Stormrunner...not that Eagle is going anywhere. I'm just saying IF we ever get a rocket I would like to see an original design.
1. Voyage
2. X
3. Millenium Force
4. Top Thrill Dragster
5. Raging Bull

Storm runner is a cool ride. There are tons of coaster that sfga could get, but well just have to wait and see.

No one here has ANY idea of when (and if) it will be leaving. Personally, it would suprise me to see it for any more than another 10 years, let alone 20 years. I wouldn't be suprised if just about every other coaster besides Whizzer and Iron Wolf lasted longer than Eagle.

Anyways, I did a quick line test on Google Earth, and Kingda Ka could easily fit in the east end of the park, where the parking lot connector is. If it started right around where Shockwave's footprint was, it would extend some into the employee lot, but not much. Width should not be a problem either, since there is nothing to the east and basically just Picnic Grove to the west. What would also be cool would be an easy record breaker water slide along the Washington Street access road. The current record is 120 ft high, 60 mph at Disney's Blizzard Beach.

The current 330 ft height limit is not set in stone and the village could always approve something taller than that. Seeing that the park has excellent relations with the village, it would suprise me that an attraction taller and more popular than Kingda Ka would not be approved.

Eagle might be going somewhere but not for a kingda ka. Yes I think one would be cool but nothing higher than 330 ft. Im 99.999%sure. Our next coaster will probably be a floorless. A version of medusa would be cool. :D

Yes, there is a current 330 foot height limit set in place from when the park was built (and the tallest coasters were half that height), but who says the village can't vote and change that?

A 330 foot hyper coaster would be neat, but once again I will bring up that there really isnt the room for it. A great coaster for sfga would be a vekoma lsm launch coaster becuase it doesnt take up a lot of room.

Tell me your source. If that's what someone else on here was simply assuming, it's not a reliable source. (In fact, anything that is said on these boards is not considered a reliable source.)

Ohare airport is about 1000 feet from my house and sfga is about a half hour away from me so maybe thats why that height limit is set.

Yous are fine. heres a height restriction topic. http://www.sfgamworld.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4738 I seriously doubt that were getting a kingda ka. Unless they ate up more parking lot space it wouldnt fit. Eagle isnt going anywhere and neither is whizzer unless something happens.

^ Everything you said is pretty much true including the parking space. There not going to take any more of it out.

Chitown wrote:Don't believe any of that crap as far as airports causing restrictions on SFGAm.

O'Hare and Midway are far enough away where it isn't an issue. Waukegan airport is a regional base with small private planes and that too is about 5 miles away from the park. That airport has no say in what goes on at SFGAm.

The 330ft mandatory height limit was enacted by the village of Gurnee after the Sky Trek Tower was built. The board said nothing could exceed its height and anything over 125ft needed zoning variance approval.

All right, msoeagle, you still never gave me your source. Above is a post from Chitown contradicting what you said about airports. I'm sure he knows more than you do about this stuff, anyways.

Your post that stated "Especially your posts :!: " was completely pointless and only there because you had nothing else to say (how about you telling me what your source is?). Your post was a pretty lame comeback.

Oh, and by the way, I did state that it would take up some parking space. Thanks for agreeing with me on that one.

You have no idea what is happening to American Eagle or Whizzer, so don't go posting like you do.

Yes, but the village requires the park to gain permission to build anything over 125 ft. anyways, so the 330 ft. height limit would have to be changed first to something like 500 ft. by the village, so the village could then authorize the park to build something like Kingda Ka, since it is over 125 ft.
