Topthrill Dragster or KingdaKa?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on October 23rd, 2005, 11:17 pm
Sorry if there are topics on this like crazy... :?

For those of you who have ridden both these maniacl Intamin stratas, tell which one is better and a detailed explanation of why? Is it the speed, launch, height, air, etc.?

-thanks :D

Kingda Ka. I for one will support this instead of the Cedar POint one. This one is unbelieveably tall and is the best rush on any coaster period. TTS is good enough to wow me and is also good for a smiley :)

I brought this up because my friend Erin came up to me so excited and was like these are my two friends and they were telling me all about CedarPoint from over the summer.

The strata freak I am, I soon grew attention to listening about their experience on dragster. They said theres nothing like it(little do they know...jk) but they said going straight those two times on the launch and back to the station, the feeling of speed is really breathtaking. They said its so fast they hardly felt anything, The view freaked them out, and the 270 degree spin made them feel like they were gonna hit the supports....so they had a hell of a time on what they said is their favorite ride next to MF.

So seeing KK has the hill, I wanted to know which was better....just heading forward or rising upward? As Ive said before I like the feel and look Dragster gives off.

i've ridden both of them.. i rode KK earlier this year and it was the first of the two that i had ridden..

i LOVED KK. the launch was amazing, the height and speed was intense and quite possibly one of the most fun experiences on a coaster i've ever experienced..

then in the summer i went to CP and rode TTD (it's weird, i rode KK before i ever rode TTD! but it's true! haha).. now, I thought that since KK was taller and faster that i would like it better. I also thought that the bunnyhill was a nice addition to the ride.. BUT i'm actually going to say that I liked TTD better. The main reason--the restraints. On Kingda Ka, you are completely restrained by OTSRs.. however, on TTD, you only have a lap bar. That pretty much made my decision. Everything seems so much more intense when you only have a small lap bar to keep you in the seat.

That being said, I did prefer the theming/atmosphere on KK better, AND the loading station is so much more efficient with Kingda Ka.. But if wer are talking about the ACTUAL ride experience and not the overall ride experience.. I'd have to say that Top Thrill Dragster is a better ride. :D
coasters = ALL THAT MATTERS

You get a little, as you can see from the video of Kingda Ka youre going fast but not at a great degree of track. http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadve ... gdaKa.html

The hill offers a bit more to riders but on TTD people still look like  and still screaming over the speed theyre racing at before the finish line.

So I can see both sides of these stratas.

Oh, I thought that was the reason for the over-shoulder harnesses :?
I heard it like ejects riders basically, hence the purpose for the choice of restraints.......or its probally because of Intamin's saftey record?

Nah, Six Flags is just covering their @$$'s with this one.

Besides, TTD owns.

The T-bar is SO much better.

And 456ft and 128mph dosen't remind me of the jungle in any way.

And 420ft reminds you of racing for some reason?

Well if you factor in the height to the layout of the ride. It's quick, it's a rush, its over before you know it. That's drag racing. And tigers are quick, a rush and over before you know it?

HaHa....good little tiger joke...attacks and over before you know it!
428ft? You mean 420ft.-The purpose of dragster was pure speed(top fuel dragsters), well with that amount of it, there was another way to win the title of tallest coaster as well, and with Xcellerator being a sucessful prototype cedar fair had something big up their sleeves.....and the outcome obviously TTD. Its taking racing to the extreme with extreme forces.

So I take it TTD is the "winner"? I'd agree that lap bars are more exciting, especially on these bad boys...that fast, that tall, straight up and straight down!

TTD is SOOO much better . . . 1 because it came before Kingda Ka and its just a copy with a useless air-time hill so they could call it a UNIQUE layout . . .

the coaster may be a LITTLE faster and a LITTLE taller, but that dosent necisarily make it SOOOO much better . . . woop - t - dooo - da . . . the ride is an exact replica of an awesome record breaker but Six Flags had to be A$$e$ and make it a little better and beat Cedar Point because they have to be better than everyone else but really there not because there coasters suck and they need to clean up A LOT ! !

What is your problem? Hello! It's a record breaker! That's it! The point of a record breaker is to beat it by just a little bit. Look at any record. Longest coaster ride without getting off, for example. Someone will try to beat it, and as soon as they do, they stop. They've reached the goal. Kingda Ka is the same way. Six Flags would be stupid to make a coaster six feet under Top Thrill Dragster and advertise it as "almost the world's tallest, fastest roller coaster." You just have some love connection to Top Thrill Dragster and never want to see it without the title of World's Fastest and Tallest. Get over it. It's a freaking roller coaster.

So Kingda Ka isnt as exciting?

I read somewhere that "cedar point people" (locals) were upset that SFGAD did that, meaning building KK, but I think that was most likely just that one person.

OK as dumb and impossible as this is about to sound, I cant beleive Im spilling this out. This is a "project" Ive been working on for many months. Just know this is my dream, my ideas, and I can do that. Please dont crush them. Itll sound un-doable, but things can change :)

This sounds a bit ODD but Ive seiously been working really hard on a dream coaster Ive been designing named E.V.A, eva is to be yes....an Intamin accelerator strata coaster. I have been working on her since last NOVEMBER/DECEMBER just choosing the picture perfect drawing, layout, angles, height, available land, length/dimensions, trains, theme, possible cost, structure, station, hourly capacity, que lines, elements, peices/products, liability, etc.(much more)She stands for Extreme, Vertical, Accelerator(or acceleration). Why a she, is because there should be more coasters to represent women and I wanted her to be powerful not what most people think of "girly"-this would prove to be more powerful then batMAN or superMAN, Riddler, etc.
Women can rule! Her layout consists of a simlpe TTD layout. I just wanted her taller and faster, giving SFGAM the title to domination(462ft. and 130mph), I know it sounds so familular to KK's stats but Thats what I really did originaly have her as, and as ironic or whatever it sounds I did not "boost" KK stats by 5ft. and steal them. I wanted all even numbers(cause Im weird) for her height, and it seemed at the time obviosly much taller than dragster. Now with all the hype about racing themed rides, yes I chose that for E.V.A, but drew and designed all my own ideas, nothing like TTD...way better, more decked out.

HERES THE EXPERIENCE I DREAM OF.....

The theme is that EVA is a hot rod chick who owns the best car shop in the U.S and is infamous for her creations such as west coast customs for example. Well she creates the best most efficient cars and everyone wants a fast and furious ride on her mean engine machines(thats the actual ride part). I saw that TTD had a viewers stand for onlookers, so I forced that in the que line for EVA forcing people to closley view their next challenge! The line would then take future riders through the maintenence car garage with real cars, parts, the sounds of drills and maintenence, and the smell of oil are really giving them a feel to racing and cars. You can see some customed designed cars from her and her crew. After that you are taken to the test garage where the station will be. You enter stairs to get to the platform. The operators booth resembles EVA's office room. Riders are seated in unique modern style Intamin car coaches and pull down the lap bar and buckle their saftey belt. Once checked and given the keys(a thumbs up  ), your ready to go. The steel faced garage door opens ever so slowly. You wait for it to fully open and you blast out into a large heavily banked curve at a slower 40-50mph launch(imagine that this is the curve that takes TTD OR KK riders back to the station but it is replaced with this). Then you find yourself entering another room. This is the pit stop room where your new car is checked upon before you leave EVA's shop. This in actuality will serve as a block section. The check is a go, you and your fellow riders are staring at a long horizontal track. You hear a sexy voice saying something like: Thank you for choosing EVA,....Enjoy your ride! Without sudden warning its 0-130mph in 3seconds! The garage and entrance to the shop blur within seconds and you rise. This is a 90 degree accent into yes, a 270 degree spin skyward. Before your breathe and thoughts have time to recollect, youre 462ft. way up. Then its downward into yet another 270 degree spin whirling at the ground suddenly approaching. You level and zoom into the straightaway into the sudden brakes ahead. Above you a sign reads...WE hope your ride reached above expectations-EVA customs hopes they did their greatest to provide you with the best ride of your life, Thank You.
You and the riders are left in awe and its back to the garage with EVA'S voice announcing she hopes you enjoy the rest of you day. She knows you are satasfied with your test drive.

This is most of it...hope you at least somewhat enjoyed the imagination
