Cedar Fair Interested in Six Flags?

Cedar Fair maybe interested in purchasing part or all of Six Flags.

I see it as a bad thing. No competition is never a good thing. THat means they only put new rides in when they feel because they aren't racing against anyone...they can charge whatever they want for things such as food because it wont be cheaper anywhere else...you think staffing is bad now in non peak months?...

Only upside? My SF pass would get me into CP.

Oh Cedar Fair will add rides once attendance declines. Is Six Flags really competing against any rival park here in Chicago? Yes, there is Cedar Point, but that si more of a resort park. Six Flags Great America isnt shooting for bragging rights, nor is it in direct competition from another major theme park. Why do we keep getting rides then? Because if they stop, people will slowly lose interist.

You could build a park in the middle of Siberia with no compeition and eventually the park would get very old (figurativly speaking) without new rides to draw attention.

But the sale of Six Flags is not for induvidual properties. The company is for sale AS A WHOLE.

And if Cedar Fair thinks they can buy it all then sell stuff off quickly, they are sadly mistaken.

If Cedar Fair did buy SF, Imagine that Season Pass, would be good at basically every major theme park outside of Florida not counting the Paramount Parks.

Though on the flipside, Cedar Fair has a whole lot of stupid policies that would suddenly be in effect at SFGAm and all SF Parks.

but thats the point, as someone said, everyone keeps saying Competition this and that, cedar point is to far away to be considered competition, its not like you can just wake up one day and be like, SO, Cedar point? or SF today......

They still want bragging rights though. I remember when Shockwave was built here and all the commercials for SFGAm were all "Come ride the worlds TALLEST coaster....."(wow, do you remember when the tallest coaster was a whopping 175 feet tall.....now it's like 420 something") It kept attendance high that year. Then Cedar Point built Magnum XL-200 and it took the bragging rights again....and then again with Millenium Force, and then with Dragster....now they have been beaten by SF New Jersey (which I think is farther away than Chicago from Sandusky) with Kingda Ka. I heard rumors this weekend while at CP of the new ride for 2006 or 2007 possibly hitting the 500 ft mark (that was from the attendant at the entrance gate, don't know how credible he was). So competition and bragging rights are a factor, no matter how far the parks are. It draws even a local crowd. In fact my friend that told us we should go to Cedar Point went the first time because he heard about Dragster and had to check out the worlds tallest and fastest coaster.

And there are those in Indiana that CAN say....so do we want to go to Great America or Cedar Point this weekend. (Although as much as I love Six Flags, after this weekend my choice would be Cedar Point, unless the residents of Gurnee and the city council let them build a giga coaster!!!!!)

I agree that competition is a very good thing.. I see this as being both good and bad..

Good - Because Cedar Fair parks seem to be much better at park maintenance and staff efficiency/friendliness.. Plus, like someone said earlier, that would mean that a Cedar Fair pass could get you to just about ANY park you wanted, minus Paramount parks and a few independant parks (which usually have cheaper tickets, anyway)

Bad - The competition, as you guys have all said before. Yes, they will make park improvements every now and then when they see a decline in attendance.. But, they will also cut back on the record breaking coasters spreading throughout parks. They might simiply stick with Cedar Point being the "Coaster capital of the world", and then keep all the other parks the same. I don't really know, though. I'm not much of an expert. I say, let whatever happens happen, and let's just be happy no matter what, we can still ride our coasters!
