I've heard talk around MN that they are planning a new six flags that will be in Brainerd, MN. Let me know what you think will happen and if you think that what I've heard is true or false.
I personally think that if they do plan and start to build one it will take 5 to 10 years for the park to even open.
What do you think? I'd like to know!!

"Why is nice bad? What kind of a sick society are we living in when nice is bad?"
We've been through this a bunch of times. Six Flags is out of the buisness of building or buying parks these days. They don't have the money to do anything like building a park espicially someplace in MN that I've never heard of before.
Bottomline: Six Flags Over Cornfield will never happen.

Why wouldn't a company with $2.3 billion in debt rush to the opportunity to sink tens of millions into a "resort" town of almost 13,000 that is only 2hrs 20 minutes from the nearest decent population center?
Just think of all the infrastructure improvements they could pay for on their own and increase that debt load.
I use the term "resort" loosely as their idea of a resort is 10 -15 cabins in 30 plus acres of timber.
Its a nice quiet fishing / hunting type community with weather a bit on the chilly side (currently 63F at 12:18 ). Somehow I'm thinking this place isn't going to be the next Dells, nice lakes though.
Woodland - In this case its not Six Flags over Cornland, its Six Flags Walleye World.

Maybe us Minnesotans will pay big bucks to have a six flags in our state.

Umm no that's not happening. First off SF is in debt up to their eyeballs and second, who has ever heard of brainerd MN? If SF was to build a park anywhere, they would need alot of land to build it on and the only place that has NOTHING AT ALL is Kansas. I can see it now "Six Flags Over Nowhere".

well put colincoon, why would a company in debt risk the sort of money that a new park costs. Even if some people got together and started a "help build a sixflags in minnesota" fund, which is unlikely. Braneird was it, never heard of it, probably a little town.

The twin cities alredy have Valleyfair! so, I think we need a park in central or northern Minnesota.

i think SF should close some of the lower market parks and send the rides to the big parks that generate the dough... if you have over 30 parks are you are in debt you know something is wrong...
i call for downsizing...
plus we all know that SFGA is safe no matter what...

Well not all of MN's population lives in the cities and a lot of people travel up north to fish. So, buisness would be great if they had a theme park up north.

Point is that sixflags would be complete morons if they built a park in brainerd. The population isnt large to help generate enough revenue to turn out a profit. Why would sixflags(a company in debt) invest in something that will hurt their finacial situation worse. There will be no sixflags in brainerd , so you can dream all you want but its not going to happen.

What I'm trying to say is, more people travel up to northern MN thatn southern MN. Also, the state parks and other areas up north make more money from tourism than parks in southern MN.
So mabey a six flags would attract more guests than Valleyfair! down south.

Looks like more people visit the Southern and Twin Cities area to me.
Of course I couldn't find any more recent numbers, but I'd bet the twin cities area is still #1.
While your steadfastness to the belief that SFI could build a park in Northern MN is disgustingly cute (kind of like a kid that still believes in Santa) I'd say the numbers don't add up.
You are expecting a new park 2hr 20 min from the twin cities area to outdraw an established park 30 min from the same area.
You hope that a company with no recent history of building parks from scratch and debt into the billions decides to invest into this area, and still make a profit?
The area is known for its peaceful settings and outdoor activity year round, yet you think the locals will abandon this way to allow for a noisy themepark that is open seasonally. No doubt the season would even be shorter given the oh so warm weather of northern minnesota, which would again affect profitability.
While I do enjoy killing dreams, please try and provide some data to even back up your claims.
If you can't find any, might I suggest you listen to myself and the other posters in this thread?
