Kingda Ka breakdown NOT Intamin's fault?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Raging_Bull on July 17th, 2005, 5:32 pm
Taken from XC:

"I have just been informed from a very reliable source that Kingda ka will not be re-opening to the public this year. By confirmed information given to the source, it will cost Great Adventure several million dollars to fix the second half of the launch track, as well as one of the trains that was badly damaged when pieces of metal started flying in all directions after it did a test launch back in early June. It has also been confirmed that the accident on Kingda Ka is not the fault of Intamin, which is the ride manufacturer, but ride maintenance workers that made a terrible decision when working on Kingda Ka. This information of course, will not be released on the Six Flags website, because officials were trying to keep everything under wraps"

heh. When I was at CP TTD had more than 20 ride ops and a mechanic hanging around. But it is also running well this year, so if that is what it takes then so be it I say.

It says but made by a TERRIBLE DECISIION when building KK, i wonder what the Decision was? Why the HELL didnt they have the same people that built TTD come and build KK. it would have ONLY made sense, another thing? why are the brakes on TTD and KK attached to the cars instead of the track ( imean how on most rides, the brakes are on the tracks and the steal strip is on the train)

Storm Runner is like that too. I think that's just how the rocket coasters are. I don't know if the trains have brakes that can open and close like on a traditional coaster. It might just be that they are like normal brakes, but don't open and close. The trim brakes (parts on track) do not move, but the brakes on the launch do. So I think only the block section brakes can move up and down.

 I hope you're right. I read gadv.com's forums and things sound promising. Supposedly it will be open late this month/early August.

The company that erected TTD was the same company that erected KK, Martin & Vleminckx.

Also the contract was signed for KK before TTD's first footer was in the ground.

And it will likely reopen around or a bit before labor day.

im not surprised this happened...roller coasters are getting too extreme now and every company is just having a race to see who can make the most extreme coaster...

lets take bets...in what year do you think there will be a coaster 1,000 feet tall and when do you think a coaster will go 200-300 miles per hour...

i think SFGAdv got a little more than they bargained for and plus didnt they make a whole section of the park based around this coaster...

sucks for the people of new jersey...

Official word from the PR person at SFGAdv is they expect to reopen KK by the end of this month or early in Aug. Weather or not it will run reliably is another story.

Ha Kingda Krap will live once more! But in all honesty, I think that both KK and TTD will tear themself's apart within the next 5-10 years. It's just too much too soon. Sure the Hydraulic launch system is a marvel to the coaster industry, but it need's to be re-designed for larger coasters like the one's mentioned above. You do realize that Kakonon (sp?) and KK use the same diameter launch cable (a one inch cable, similar to the safety cable on S&S towers) and they don't expect anything to go wrong. in my opinion, it need's thicker cables, and the catch car needs to have wheels instead of nylon strips to keep it going down the track (because if you notice on TTD, the catch car shakes back and fourth when it is coming back tward you, not good).

True, cable lift coasters aren't doing well, look at any DJV (except ours), Xcellerator, TTD, KK, etc. The only nice working one is the elevator cable on Millenium Force.

Sory to revivie this but I must say something.

Coasterdude, if you haven't notice Millenium Force's lift tavels at a speed of about 12-15 mph, and how long does it take to get up there? Now look at the system of Top Thrill Dragster, 0-120 in 4 seconds? That takes alot more stress then Millenium Force. The system is the same, cable pulls train, but what they do, is a totally different story. I have't heard anything from the S&S Thrust Airs. They use a cable, just with compressed air. Xcelerator, Kanonen, Rita, Storm Runner have all been running fine, and Top Thrill Dragster has been up to par. You cannot say this is Intamin's fault, because every other coaster is running fine.

Edit: The Deja Vu cable system, just because it uses the cable, dosen't mean its the same. The fact that the train has to catch, is TOTALY different.

Don't jump the gun about opening just yet. State I think stil has to make it out there, and from reports from it's Grand Opening, State was having a fit with this thing. Should be interesting.
