Let me just say this, they rock! Anyway, there have been lots of new GCI woodies coming out lately. I think woodies are making a comeback, that's a good thing. What are your thoughts on wood coasters?
I agree, I haven't even ridden a really new next generation wooden rollercoaster too. I think I will always perfer wood to steel, there is just a little more thrill. Roughness is never a problem for me. With no OTSR's there is nothing for my head to bump against, so roughness is a plus. Also, most wooden coasters are airtime machines vs. steel coasters which seem to be more geered twords inversions and gforces.
Wooden coasters are so re-rideable because they knock you around so much and are so fun. Steel coasters (with the exception of a few) can get quite boring after a few rides. Heck, I'll probably end up riding Eagle all night during CAD next Friday.

No, I liked roar fine, but, just Fine. I didn't really find it good or bad.
By the Way: I just remembered that I've also been on Rattler at SFFT. You get banged around so much on that ride that you barely notice anything. Honestly what were the designers thinking! The only good part of that is when you go underneath the old quarry.
For some reason, when I read this topic I was reminded of the heavy oil smell of the chain lift on The Beast...mmmm . There is nothing more pure than a wooden roller coaster.
^ I love the smell of the tunnels on The Beast. That is truely my absolute favorite coaster of all!!
The newest woodie I've ridden would be Gwazi, and I loved that ride! Otherwise, I love Beast, Viper, Great American Scream Machine, and yes... even Son Of Beast!
But on the other hand, PKI's forwards facing Racer is the only roller coaster in existence that has ever induced actual pain on me; but backwards Racer was awesome!
The Beast wrote::?: Pain on Racer but no pain on Son of Beast? You are truly unhuman.
Haha, I guess I must be! I don't know, Son Of Beast was more bouncy for me, the train just bounced around. Racer just jackhammered it's way through the course. I thought I just caught it on a bad day, but now it's going on 4 years in a row since I've enjoyed a ride on forwards Racer.
Son of Beast is the prime example of why wooden roller coasters should never exceed about 140 ft. It is too fast for the wooden track and the lapbars are killer on the legs. But I realise they have to be, to go through the loop. Thank god Son of Beast have doesn't overhead's...wow now that could actually *hurt* you.

Going to respond to a slew of posts here in no particular order
SOB depends alot on where you sit, center seat of any car is decent, front is jarring, and the back of any car will make you wish you werent born.
Lightning Racer is one of the most boring coasters I've ever ridden, it has next to no forces and never really does anything exept duel with the other track, I greatly perfer wildcat right across the midway.
Traditionally woodies up to around 150 feet turn out ok, anything over is generally a huge mess, only exeption is the newest Intamin "Woodies" as Colossos at Heide Park in Germany is butter smooth despite it's 170 foot height (though I hear it is getting rougher with age, it's still good though)
Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder Favorite Steel: Voltron Nevera, Steel Vengeance, Expedition GeForce, Olympia Looping Parks visited: 232, Coasters Ridden: Steel: 894, Wood: 179, Total: 1073
Yeah I pretty much agree with everything you said there. Son of Beast has an extreme lack of intimacy or theming on the ride. It is just a monster that they cut out all the trees to put it in.
Ya know, it wouldn't surprise me if they made it like 215 ft. tall or something like that. So, they can have the tallest wooden and steel roller coaster on the planet. If they do do that, there is a 90% chance of it being a terrible ride.
