I am not knocking SWT, but this blows any kind of theming I have seen at a Six Flags park away. Kudos to Six Flags for making what looks like to be a great section. I might have to take a journey out there this year.
SWT was also designed by Mariott as an expansion back when they owned the park. They had plans to create SWT at the Gurnee location, but it never happened, it was the same exact thing except for Bull, Viper and Giant Drop not being in their plans.
Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer Marathon down, Goofy to go.
I think the Golden Kingdom does look really good, although I, too, think that SWT is equally as impressive. Let's hope this represents a return to theming for Six Flags, and that as they refurbish some of the older areas of our park over the next few years, they do as good of a job as they appear to have done here.
Mardi Gras ring a bell? I don't really care for the Mardi Gras idea, but I think the theming for that type of area is very essential to what they wanted. However, they didn't change RR except for adding alligators.
I really don't think your park has to connect in the theming areas way. Parks really just need popular rides. Adding characters to rides is a very good start. That's what helped WDW, and US out in the first place. These rides have ICONS such as Jaws, Dumbo, Star Wars, The Incredible Hulk, Snow White, and what not. A parks theming could be wonderful, but it doesn't matter if the rides are just awful.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"

Sure it does. Why are places like WDW and US so popular? Because they offer an immersive experience, and theming is VERY important. I don't know about you, but if the best rollercoaster in the world is in the middle of a blacktop parking lot, and is painted gun-metal gray, I'm still going to pick Big Thunder Mountain over it.
But thats just me. And the people that spend the money (families) pick that experience over anything. Season pass holders don't account for much spending on food and merchandise.
If you think SF does a bad job theming, then you have not been to a Cedar Fair park. Their theming is a sign and that's about it. They even have wickedly odd names such as "Steel Force", "Steel Venom", "Thunderhawk", etc.
I not saying that Six Flags does a horrible job at theming, all I'm saying is that Golden Kingdom is a extremely well done themed area for a Six Flags park, probably one of the best next to SWT.

Thats not true, TTD has a radar gun next to the track, and a speedometer so you can see how fast its going before the next breakdown. (Maybe I should'nt have said that breakdown comment, because I hope to ride the thing in three weeks and don't want to be jinxed )
