*NEW* Award-Winning Water Attraction Set To Open Summer - 2005
(February 15, 2005 Louisville – KY) Get ready to ride the ultimate storm…Tornado! Extreme tubing debuts this summer at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom when we introduce the Water Park’s new thrill slide. Resembling a giant checkerboard funnel turned on its side, Tornado promises to become one of the most popular rides in the Midwest.
Riders began their wild, wet journey 75-feet in the air by blasting down a 132-foot long tunnel, leading to a mammoth, open-ended funnel. The ride’s specially designed 4-person cloverleaf shaped tubes hug the inside of the funnel, splashing back and forth on 5,000 gallons of swirling water. The exciting experience culminates as riders are sent through the eye of the storm ending in a cool catch pool below.
This marks the first major expansion at Hurricane Bay Water Park since 1998. Tornado will be the popular water park’s sixth major attraction joining the five-story interactive water tree house, Hooks Lagoon; thrilling water-slide complex, Mt. Slide High; wonderfully wet children’s playground, Barefoot Cove, relaxing Lazy River; and 750,000 gallon Wave Pool. “Tornado is a perfect fit for our Water Park,” said Lee Graham, vice president and general manager. “This is a ride the whole family can enjoy together.”
Tornado’s enormous size and unique shape has garnered numerous awards and distinctions, including the amusement industry’s 2003 Golden Ticket Award For Best Water Park Ride and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions’ 2003 Best New Product Award in the Water Park Category.
This season the thrills swirl to new heights with the opening of Tornado over Memorial Day Weekend (May 27, 2005). Grab your waterproof cameras and get ready to Ride the Ultimate Storm!
