Looks like Cedar Point has expanded it's marketing range. It's now marketing Chicago, within the hour I have seen 2 Cedar Point commercials on TV advertising for http://cedarpoint.com/chicago/. Ive almost seen as many Cedar Point ads this year as I have seen Six Flags ads!
This is where the whole resort thing comes in handy, cause i'm sure so many people want to drive an additional 5 hours to CP to spend their 'family day at an amusement park' rather than SFGAm.
Cedar Point was advertising on tv last summer. I saw the ads on cable. I have been taking the family there since 2000. We went two times last year and we'll be back there again this year in June and Oct.
I think there a little afraid of Great America's New Marketing and Ride lineup. Great America will be just fine different animal . We are going as usual to Kings Island this Summer. They have been marketing here since January.

Rember even if it did, there is still, SFMM, SFGAdv and SFOG to draw in the $$. Still I highly doubt attendance will drop. Some of the GP still think the park is closed (as starnge as it is )
I know it's strange but some of my friends actually said over the weekend when I asked them if they wanted to go to Great America "Really, it's open? Let's go on Tuesday." They have a lot to learn.
The attendence at sfgam will be fine. When i went to cedar point i didnt really like it. The only good thing is ttd, mf, and magnum xl. The workers there are mean and fall asleep at the kiddie ride.
Eric, I'm not a fanboy but I have to stick up for my park! I've never experienced that. I think CP has some of the best workers I've ever seen. It was SFWoA where I would always see grouchy overworked people, not CP. Must have caught them on a bad day. Back on topic, I'm surprised they are marketing there as opposed to Michigan's Adventure, isn't that closer?
They advertised last year and still most people do not know what Cedar Point is. People whom I have talked to say, why should I drive 6 hours away when there is SFGAM only 40 min away. I think the problem is it’s still a Regional Theme Park, so when people see an Advertisement for CP they may in fact go to SFGAM instead. GP think a coaster is a coaster.
Cedar Point has been advertising in the Chicago area for years now. There was always a billboard up on 80/94 just east of Torrence ave. I am surprised not to see it this year.
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!
Ron... why would Cedar Point be afraid of a mouse, and some dated flats? If ANYTHING, SFGAm should fear CP's new marketing. Granted there have always been CP billboards in this area. Word is always spreading about Cedar Point, and having record breaking rides sure helps. As far as SFGAm, it has it's locals and people drive hours for it. No worries here.
First Great America is not getting all old flats. Have you seen the positive response to The Revolution already? I agree C.P. do have the meanest employees. I'll never figure out how they win for friendliest. "Get behind the yellow line", No! You can't have the top to your Lemon Chill oh and eat it with a straw. Anyway This forum should focus on Gurnee Not Sandusky. Six Flags will always be a bigger Theme Park Chain then Cedar Fair.
The T.V. spots may lure a few people out there but it won't be significant.
If CP is advertising their coasters, they might as well pull the ads. The average once or twice a year park goer sees the coasters for CP and figures why go there when SFGAm has coasters also.
Contrary to popular belief among enthusiasts, the GP could care less that they have a 420ft coaster.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I concur... if people cared so little about this, then why did hundreds of thousands of guests visit Cedar Point from across the country to ride it? Ever overhear conversations amongst GP at Great America? Cedar Point commonly comes up, and Top Thrill Dragster is usually the first thing they mention.
On another note, I saw an Indiana Beach commercial on TV.
Oh and Rob.... I said "dated", not "old"... only because I believe that these flats are a generation behind what is currently on the market. Take a look at Delirium at PKI, or Canada's Wonderland's flat lineup. Also, on a note about CP employees... some aren't the nicest, but they sure know how to move the lines, and take care of the park.
Revolution is seeing a positive response, and I'm sure King Chaos will as well... but it will be nowhere near what rides like Delirium have seen. Go to Canada's Wonderland and ride their flats. Note they all actually have hefty lines.
Yeah, and those hundreds of thousands would most likely be thrill seekers (aka enthusiasts). If I took a poll at work and asked non-enthusiasts if they would drive almost 6 hours to ride a 420ft coaster, I am willing to bet the majority would say no.
Don't kid yourself with CP's pulling power. They had an attendance of around 3.3 million last year. That is well below any destination park in this country. It's kickass for a regional park though.
And on the subject of dated flats, the rides being installed at SFGAm are far from dated. They may not be the latest, but nowhere near dated. CP doesn't exactly have the stellar line up of flats in my opinion.

I have to disagree Scott, CP really is pulling in families around here for vacations. I know 6 different families that took a visit to the park last year as a family vacation. From some of my relatives to some of my parents friends. They all come to me asking if I know of any discounts there.
Just today I went and printed up some coupon's on cedarpoint.com/chicago for one of my mom's co-workers who is taking a trip to Cedar Point this weekend.
So if you ask me, Id say the word is definitly out on CP and that they are drawing alot of families (non-thrillseekers) to the park from the Chicago area.
I have talked to several people and most people would not be willing to drive 6 hours away. Like I said before and Chitown has stated. Most GP do not care how tall or big a coaster is, all they really care is they have a Great time at the park.
I don't know, CP has 2 coasters over 300 feet. If I hadn't experienced a coaster that was or is 'The world's tallest fastest coaster' I think that would draw me!

Wow Ron, pretty bad post you seem to fit in with all the kids in this room. CP didnt win for friendliest employees anyway, it was Holiday World. What the heck is that line about a lemon chill?? Sounds like rambling to me. What does having the bigger chain have to do with it? Quality is better than Quantity.
lets say that CP does draw from Chicago. those people who are drawn are going to go for a weekend, right? that's about it. they won't be driving back and forth from Chicago to CP all summer. they'll make one *maybe* two special trips and the rest of their money goes to SFGA. so its still not going to effect SFGA's drawing power or income.
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.
