Busy First Day?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby ShortChilli on April 3rd, 2004, 5:43 pm
I was wondering if May 1st is a bad day to go, or should I not worry about it? I heard that a bunch of schools would probably be going; is that true??

Nobody can predict whether it will be crowded or not. Opening weekend is usually not bad.

I went last year and the only line that was really bad was S:UF. And i really wouldn't expect a lot of schools to be going on opening day because they usually go as like graduation field trips, or to phisic's (sp?) day or something like that.

Acually, most people that I've talked to said that May 3rd last year was indeed rather busy. I give the busyness to the huge media coverage of S:UF. The new MardiGras area dosen't seem to be drawing too much attention at all. If the weather is crummy, then we could have a slow day.

If you can only go like once a year I strongly reccomend avoiding opening day, as it looks like a lot of rides will be closed, and there will be a lot of dust.

Also the weather could be rather crappy. I say wait until late May or early June if you want to get the most out of your stay.

The other point to add on to this conversation is that a lot of rides usually have a tendancy to break down on opening day.

They are just shaking off the dust from a long winter's sleep.

I would also advise to wait until summer if you want the best time. Memorial Day works too, if you want minimal crowds.....

Now that we have 1 full season of trip reports on this site, you should check them out. They are a very good place to find out what days are busy and what days arn't. Too bad the formatting is screwy on them thanks to chester. :(

From my experiences the Saturday of opening weekend is usually pretty busy...sunday isn't nearly as bad, especially early in the morning. I would definitely stay away from Memorial Day....it's usually insanely busy.

The park is always packed. DONT GO!!! Insane line waits.

Don't worry though, I will go on opening day and take one "for the team" :)

Last year I don't recall it being too crowded. The only really long 1+ hour line was for Superman. The rest were 45 minutes at most.

Having Never gone to a GA Opener im looking forward to it. I have to agree with the people who will say Early Sunday and Late Sunday will be empty. That i agree with.

Six Flags St. Louis was empty on there opener while i was there also.

it really comes down to weather, cold, cloudy or wet weather will result in an empty park, the nicer it is the more crowded it will be. However I've never seen an opening day get all that "packed", definately busy on some of the nicer ones though.

I remember opening day 2002 Vu's queue was HUGE, the rest were reasonable. I wasnt sure if it was just having 20 minute load times or breaking down after every cycle .

I have gone every opening sunday for the past few years and it isn't crowded at all. I recommend going Sunday, May 2nd, but the only down fall is that it isn't opened as long as saturday (I think one hour shorter) But that really doesn't matter when you have been on all the coasters and most of them twice.
