I just heard about this... I've been on some of those types of rides, and in my opinion they aren't really that safe.

Hopefully you dont feel to unsafe, the company that manufactured that ride is making 3 of the new SFGAm rides this year, and has made quite a handfull of the other rides at SFGAm (especially the 1996 load we got for SWT)

Zamperla OTSR restraints are actually one of the safer OTSR's on the market with all the computer monitoring and mechanical backups it has, right now it's looking as if the rider was at fault, she was seen trying to get out as the ride started (not sure yet if there was something wrong with the seat or if she just wanted off.

Another accident occured recently, at a carnival in Pennsylvania. What I heard was that a bolt broke on the "Gravitron" and a woman flew off and died. Not sure if this information is correct.

I heard there was another accident in Florida recently and it hurt many riders. Anyone have anything on this, I couldn't find anything else other than a small story in my newspaper.

Boy, 2, loses thumb on kiddie ride at Florida fair
(Friday, January 19, 2001) - At the South Florida Fair in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, a 2-year-old boy had his thumb cut off after falling down inside "Lily's Palace," a kiddie fun house ride. The child's thumb was severed after he landed it between a rotating turntable and the floor of the ride. State inspectors found no mechanical problems with the ride. The operators of the ride, Conklin Shows, acknowledge that another child had cut two fingers in a similar accident on the ride last year, and they have disconnected the turntable.

The fair runs through January 28.

Carnival ride catches fire; 3 injured
(Sunday, February 1, 2004) - In West Palm Beach, Florida, three people suffered minor injuries when a carnival ride caught fire at the South Florida Fair. The accident happened on the Orbiter, a high-speed spinning ride owned and operated by Lauther Amusements, a subcontractor for Conklin Shows. Investigators say that a leak in the ride's hydraulic system caused oil to spill onto heated areas of the ride, leading to the fire which quickly engulfed the ride, but was extinguished within minutes.

About 20 riders were evacuated from their seats.

The Orbiter passed a state inspection less than three weeks ago. It will be examined by its manufacturer, Tivoli.

Carriage flies off carnival ride; 3 children injured
(Saturday, January 17, 2004) - At the Florida Citrus Festival in Winter Haven, Florida, three children were injured when a carriage broke off from a carnival ride, flew about 30 feet through the air and crashed onto the structure of a nearby bumper car ride. The accident happened as the children were riding the Cliff Hanger, a ride which carries passengers as they lie face down in carriages designed to resemble hang gliders. Each carriage holds three people. The ride rotates about a central arm, which lifts to a height of 35 feet.

Firefighters from the Winter Haven Fire Department had to cut through the metal cage that surrounded the carriage to extract the girls, who were locked in. One child suffered a broken arm while the other two suffered minor injuries.

About 30 people were on the ride at the time of the accident, but no one else was injured.

The Cliff Hanger is owned and operated by Wade Shows. The company refused to comment on the accident.

State inspectors are investigating the accident.

A trend iwithin Florida portable amusement rides.

Wow thats sad to hear. To avoid accidents are inevitable, but they should not be so frequent.
