Cedar Point trip...what to expect?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby woohoodude11 on May 4th, 2012, 4:44 am
Hey guys, I'm going on my first trip to CP since 2004 (when I went with High School for band) two weeks from today. I have no clue what to expect! I went the same weekend as the Indy 500, which I believe is right around Memorial Day. The park was packed, but 90% or so *Seemed* to be other band geeks. Just wondering if I should expect a similar turnout for this time of year and if I should try that new fangled Fast Lane thingy they're pushing. Any advance intel is greatly appreciated.

A very large, clean and well-operated park with mediocre coasters. Except for Wildcat - Wildcat rocks! Oh wait...

ill be at the park exactly one month from today. We have our stay booked at Breakers, so we get one hour early entry. We will be spending two days at the park, and have already purchased our Fast lane tickets for the second day. The first day we are just going to wing.

I have been at the park once previously. The one time I went was in the middle of July. We went on a Wednesday and it was pretty busy. Keep in mind this was the middle of July. Everything was about 45 min to an hour and a half wait. Didnt get to go on everything I wanted to. Now, two weeks from today, my guess is most people will still be in school and crowds should be light, but im not positive. Im going to check for myself anyways so ill look and get back to you on here.

EDIT: Sandusky public schools are out on the 31st of May. So until then, most likely light crowds during the week.

What should I expect on the 6th and 7th of June......Crowd wise.........especially since they have the Facebook deal for getting in for the price of starlight on those days. Any suggestions?

There was a link posted to Screamscape today. Someone, somewhere made up a calendar for cedar point that breaks the crowd levels down into four different categories ranging from light crowds to extreme crowds. Check it out, it may help in determining what to expect, what days you should go, whether to buy flash pass or not, etc.
here is the link:

^That was super helpful, thanks!
Amazing though, I paid more for 2 days admission than a season pass here :-X.

^ no problem!. I am going to be at the park the 6th and 7th and now the park is promoting some luminosity preview those days where you can enter the park all day for the price of starlight on its facebook page. I really really hope word does not get out and crowds remain light. At least I have my flash pass for the second day :)

Anybody have a prediction on Cedar Points 2013 project? Screamscape has mentioned a B&M.

^ o.O o rly?
I'm looking forward to judging the service element that's being so heated-ly discussed in the other forum. Like I said, I was there in 2004 and thought service was atrocious. TTD wasn't running at all and everything else was 1 train and/or late open. I'll definitely keep the world posted.

Post of the year. We need more stuff like this. :-) I know it doesn't guarantee anything, but it gives a nice general idea.
Have a take and don't suck, it's the Jim Rome Show!

Definitely did NOT factor in the same band day I said I went to in 2004. The park was PACKED today with 2+ hour waits for anything and midways loaded with short shorts wearing jailbait. The only crew that seemed to enjoy working there was the maxair crew, the time I went everybody was happy and interacting with the GP today everyone was just working a job. Bad taste in my mouth today, maybe tomorrow will be better?

Today (5/20/2012) was a lot better than yesterday. Employees were more lively, midways were less jammed, sun had a light cloud cover. I never remembered the "Mufflehead" infestation being as extreme as it is now! I know they're harmless, but there's gotta be a way to get rid of em!

My only thing that I'm sure not everyone has tried...The only thing I'll suggest is the hot dog joint near the front of the park "Pinks". That place is fantastic!

CP has wrestled with muffleheads as long as they've been in existence, really the only way would be either poison fogging which the park really doesn't want to do or turn off all the lights in the park for like a month which they can't do.

Best solution is either A. Don't wear a white shirt or B. Don't ride in the front row of anything and keep your mouth shut when on rides no matter what :D

Its amazing to see the volume of dead ones plastered to the front of the trains on TTD. IDK why anyone would ever want to ride front of that at night!

Before Magnum was built, I remember some announcement in ACE news about how it was going to have "windshields to protect from sand flies." Kinda funny... I remember HUGE spiders in the dorms. We all know how they got so darn big!

my future "cousin-in-law" came with us and he use to lives in the dorms as well. He told us many-a-tale of the insects and snakes in the area (saw a Lake Erie Water Snake swimming in the Mantis lagoon!). We only got to see one spider in the TTD queue, and the butt of this thing was about the size of a dime. He said that's a quarter of the size as he's seen em! Hoping to go mid-summer to see some of these gargantuans lol.

I did that once, and it was an interesting experience. I will bring goggles next time I plan on doing that. The train at least needs one of those "bugflectors" the fronts of some cars and trucks have :P
