So people that don't fit in the MF seats/lapbars can ride it. Notice all Intamin's nowadays are being built with these types of trains and Superman at SFNE just got new trains with bigger seats.
Intimidator 305 is not painful at all. I was fortunate enough to ride it after they changed the restraints to the shoulder-straps and thought it was glass smooth, especially for such a fast ride with rapid transitions. Maybe it was painful with the hard shoulder restraints but not with the soft ones it has now.

...wish Kingda Ka would get these, they would make the ride a lot more enjoyable.
My opinion for the reason why MF could not have them, and why this one doesn't have them is just because of safety reasons. I say safety reasons loosely, but someone has died on Superman: Ride of Steel, and someone has been thrown out of the Holiday World coaster. I have to wonder if these people have found a way to not have their lapbars lower than they should (trying to get extra clicks), and have either died or been injured, and than really ruined it for the rest of us. If you aren't clicking enough on purpose, STOP it. For that reason, your life is at risk. So, please follow the rules.
And there are reasons why they say don't stand on a ride because you could be out of their car in an instance. That's why Cedar Fair is seatbelt, seatbelt, seatbelt. Is it better for people to let people keep on doing stupid things, or should Cedar Fair say let's at least put another procautionary measure so at least we can catch them if they do try to take off the seatbelt. Hate Cedar Fair all you want, but it's because of what happened previously for why they are doing this type of stuff.

^Yes, it wasn't the rides fault at all, but these parks are worried about more people doing stuff like that, so putting a harness over someone is going to be more secure and harder for them to get out of the ride compared to a lapbar. Why does Kingda Ka need a harness really? I've been on Top Thrill with lapbars, and it was just fine, but you just never know with what people would try to do?
"Will Koch, the president and general manager of Holiday World and Splashin' Safari theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana, issued a letter to roller coaster enthusiast groups introducing a new 'Zero Tolerance Policy' and canceling scheduled enthusiast events at the park. The action comes in the wake of a deadly accident on Holiday World's Raven roller coaster on May 31. A roller coaster enthusiast was killed after she removed her seat belt and stood up while riding in the rear car of the Raven. The accident brought the spotlight onto roller coaster enthusiast groups whose members encourage such practices and brag about riding coasters with loosened seat belts and lap bars in high positions, away from the lap."

As I said before, bigger people can ride the large lapbar/otsr combo while the old intamin t-bar restraints are much smaller and less acommidating. It hurts their bottom line and pisses off a lot of people if a large quantity of people cannot fit on the ride.
Interestingly enough, being taller and heavier than the average human being, in general I find lap restraints and even Intamin's T-bars to be more accomidating than OTSR's. Often if I'm riding something like B:TR I come off with shoulder pain. So far I've never ridden on Intimidator (hope to fix that next year) so I can't comment between Inty's new restraints and T-bars, but something similar, like Maverick, always hurts the shoulders.
