I'd like to check out CP with a few friends this week. As of right now, we plan to leave the Chicagoland area on Wednesday morning at around 6am, so that we can get to the park by noon. We plan to stay at the park from noon until closing on Wednesday, and either camp or find a hotel to stay at in the area that night.
A few questions... -Is noon until closing too little time? We'd like to balance enough time at the park with getting enough sleep the night before. -What kind of crowds can one expect on a Wednesday in August? Which coasters should we try to ride earlier in the day rather than later? -We plan to use the promotion for buying tickets on a Wednesdays (in the low $30 ballpark)... are there other offer available? -Finally, does anyone have any recommendations as to good and cheap lodging in the area? Our budget is pretty limited, so camping would be fine as well.
1. Cedar point is huge. I would recommend 2 full days to go there. 2. I would guess about 45 minutes for Mav, MF, TDD, & Raptor. Everything else 30 minutes or less. I would suggest the intamin trio early to mid afternoon and Raptor in the evening. 3. Check their website. I would guess not, because that's a pretty good price. 4. I believe I stayed at a budget host inn very close that had shuttle service back in 08.' Don't know if it's still there, but I believe it was around $40 a night.
Just there last wednesday and basically Maverick, MF, and TTD had 1 hour waits from opening until closing. If you work fast you might be able to get all the good rides, meaning skip Raptor and Mantis and focus on the big 3 plus Maverick. I really would go two days because in two short days I only got 2 ttd, 1 mf, 1 magnum, 1 maverick, 1 gemini, and 1 raptor, so not a lot, but we really were not there for long so you should be fine.
"Park staff later claimed that they were offered a hundred bucks a pop to try to the slide, but refused after seeing that test dummies often emerged on the other end dismembered. The looping slide was actually closed down for most of the park’s life due to these injury concerns."
Hit Raptor and Blue Streak near close. When I went there last year, they were walk-on an hour before close. For hotel, do NOT stay at either Best Budget Inn. They are dirty and just suck in general.
1. If you're anal about having to ride every coaster in the park, you will probably need to two days this time of year. If you only want the "big name" coasters at the park, you'll be fine.
2. It's August, which is the "back to school" rush. Don't anticipate walk-ons.
3. If you found a promotions giving you a $30 ticket, consider yourself lucky. That's probably as low as you're going to get.
4. Don't really have any advice for lodging. Just try to stay cheap but not to junky. If you're going with friends you can always split the cost a few ways.
Don't rush a trip to Cedar Point. If you think you're only gonna be able to stay for a few hours, and have to stay on a really tight budget, I'd say wait it out so you can treat yourself a little nicer later on and have a more enjoyable trip. But that's just my philosophy on any trip I take.

I don't recall having any in the room I rented. It's not the worst place I ever stayed at.
Did you stay at the Best Budget Inn or Budget Host Inn? I know the Best Budget Inn near Kalahari is the one I stay in and it's a joke.
Depending on price and time, it might be worth it to stay at Breakers Express for the 1 hour early ERT. It helped us a ton on riding M Force and Maverick walk-on.
Awww, that's what it is. Yes, the budget host inn. It was right across the Cedar Point parking lot and had shuttle service. I looked for it on my last trip in June, but I'm guessing it is shut down or has different owners.
There is a Motel 6 about 30 miles east of the park, that I stayed at recently and I got a room for 44.99 for two adults and a queen sized bed. The room was fantastic
