Six Flags Parks 2011 thread

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on June 9th, 2010, 11:40 pm
I do apologize if my terrible eyes mislead me to believe this isn't a topic already.

We all know from articles or word of mouth that every park in the SixFlags chain is to receive a "major attraction" for the big anniversary. We have rumors, word of mouth, & almost confirmations on some parks. SFOT is gettin a total makeover on TexasGiant, SFSTl is only said to get new trains thus far on ScreaminEagle, SFOG, & SFA may receive the popular yet overclones unoriginal TonyHawks Big Spins as SFGAm is to get the relocated Chang. That's all we have so far if I'm not mistaken. Seein there's so many parks, I could see so many topics comin up so I thought we could put them all here(except for our chang of course ;)) So Discuss here as more unwraps for the big 2011

Magic Mountain will get MR. SIX'S DANCE COASTER in 2011, rather than 2010. And a heap of other things, Water park expansion, thrill coaster, 4D attraction.

Great America will get Chang, or the re-incarnation of Chang, along with a 4D attraction possibly.

Six Flags America will get a thrill coaster. The park said "We will give you something that will make you very happy" to COASTER ENTHUSIASTS. Think about it, the park hasn't gotten a thrill or coaster addition in years, this is perfect.

Six Flags Over Georgia will get something... Something. I just can't think of something they need. They don't have any shuttle coasters, do they?

Hmmm... Where did you get the SFAm info...ugh that park is the worst park I have ever been to, told myself even if they got a 500ft coaster, I wouldn't return. What they could use to make people very happy is no more dead end midways, paintjobs on EVERYTHING, Upkeep with better maintence & employees! AAHHH! I hated that park!

In my eyes, that would be the next park that Six Flags drops. They only have one thing that keeps that park OK, and that's S:ROS.

Currently, Chang and the Texas Giant wood to steel refurb are the only confirmed new things for 2011. Rumored stuff includes:

SFMM - Mr. Six DanceCoaster, which may or may not happen due to management shake-up.
SFOG - a Tony Hawk's Big Spin near Mindbinder's lift hill.
SF STL - Twisted Twins trains on Screamin' Eagle along with track work. All the trains are at the park for what it's worth and would lean towards this happening..
SFA - A thrill ride rumor like every year.
SF Fiesta Texas - Rattler goes down for the year dependent on Texas Giant refurb and how it works.
The Great Escape - Some flat or dark ride.
SF Great Adventure - 5D attraction from last year's IAPPA

Watch, it's Ultra Twister. Really though, this all just seems like pr hype to me. Technically, the parks have been getting major additions all along. A Tony Hawk roller coaster to Six Flags corporate is a "major" attraction. So, just because they are saying every park is going to get a major attraction doesn't mean that it's going to be a huge thrill ride. Six Flags Great America is getting the ride because it's a used ride that came from a park they closed down.

that doesnt mean every park in the chain has to receive somethin used from "a closed park". There are still rides at SFNO & the situation over at SFKK is odd too. Yes all signs point to Chang with the board meeting & many of us on here just as many people out there, are confused as to why were gettin it. i think we could have seen somethin spankin new while another park got Chang but it works the other way around as well.

As for these Tony hawks...they're good rides but the SF over cloned & over used name branding bothers me so much. these parks need individuality to set them apart.

So Cedar Fair has NEVER reused a name for a ride before?

Considering each park is named "Six Flags..." it's hard to stand-out.

Tell me where in there, did I say they never do that? ...When you put it into a perspective of SF vs CF, no not really. This goes for major rides that set them apart. Behemoth, Diamondback, Dominator, TTD, Maverick, Patriot, Xcelerator, MF, Mantis, Raptor, Prowler, Possessed...etc. I see a lot of those as duplicates..no. As for the former PARAMOUNT, yeah they kept FOF, Stunttracks, & Droptowers yes those are not "individual". You're missin the point..its the fact SF does it to a lot with what sticks and becomes popular.

Boomerang is probably the most overused name for a Boomerang coaster. For me, Deja Vu was the most creative.

No debate, you're tryin to start one tryin to prove me otherwise. That's why I didn't name any of those attractions. Many of those rides you listed, as I said already if you pay attention, are from the former Paramount parks, who just like SF, didn't really care that their other parks had duplicated names. CF creates new names for a park that would seperate them from anyone else. Look at our park...how many coasters don't have names elsewhere? RagingBull, AmericanEagle, IronWolf, Whizzer, & SSR...so enough yes but not like SUF, TDK, Viper, V2, BTR, Demon, with other parks... Again, BTR SUF, Goliath, THBS, Superman & Batman anything, etc etc. Its just seems more excessive than What any other chain does.

We need more cool names like KingDa Ka, Nitro, El Toro, X2, Tatsu, Kong, Le Monstre, Ednor, Georgia Scorcher, Acrophobia, (former)Chang, RiddlersRevenge, Scream!, RagingBull, Rattler, Poltergeist, etc. Something that whether it be to the everyday enthusiast or GP, a name that a park can be branded on. Just as we are with our highlight of RagingBull, were known for that big boy. A unique name let's you stand out, that's what I want them to be consistant on that's all.

As for 2011... Texas Giant was topped off the other day. I cannot believe they wanna make that drop at 79degrees.

Scream! is a good name? Okk.

I'd like to add that I think that Superman: The Escape at Magic Mountain will have a Bizarro side. And if that doesn't happen, I have a gut feeling Scream will get the Bizarro treatment.

I don't think it will be ultra twister because it was up on that website where they were trying to sell it and it said that all of they stuff was poor (cosmetic, mechanical, ect.)

I hear Ultra Twister is in terrible condition. Like, never operating again condition. Aren't there pieces that are banged up badly? I don't know for certain, but i don't think that it will be operating anytime soon.

That's just it though......the common everyday person who let's say lives near SFMM has no idea (or could care less) that there's another ride named Viper halfway across the country, nor would they even know that there's more than one B:TR.

I would also say that the average person who has a season pass isn't drawn into buying it because they have the opportunity to visit any Six Flags park across the chain. I'm not sure on the stats, but I would venture to say that there aren't many that would totally do a trek across the US just to visit a Six Flags on the East Coast if they lived on the West Coast. So while the idea of cloning and over-used names/branding bothers the enthuasist, it really has very little effect on the general population.

You'd be surprised how much the GP knows about rides. I heard a few GP talking in line for Iron Wolf yesterday. They said, " Oh yeah, did you hear that they're putting a F****** huge coaster next year?" "Where?!" "By that Space thing." "I also heard it's like 300ft and goes flips like 10 times."

So they know Chang is coming, they just don't know the specifics. hah.

Don't know who mentioned it but Kentucky Kingdom and the remains of New Orleans are OFF LIMITS to Six Flags. No rides can be taken out and most likely that will not change. KK cannot afford to lose anymore rides it will spend over 20 million on rehab/water park expansion. New Orleans rides have been rotting away for a while. No way you can use them again.

Actually, there is still no news out of Kentucky about whether Six Flags can touch the rides or not. Shapiro just said that they wouldn't touch anything until the fair board found a new owner, and the bankruptcy judge says that it's ok.

SFGrAm - Chang, small stuff

SFA - Tony Hawk

SFOG - Tony Hawk

SFMM - Mr. Six's Dance Coaster, possibly another coaster, small stuff. No park is ever getting another Bizarro. It will be pointless. They're done with the big rethemings now. Plus, what would be the point? It would need another viral campaign. You will not see another Bizarro ever.

SFGrAdv - 5D, flats, coaster, small stuff

SFNE - coaster, small stuff

SFOT - Texas Giant redo, small stuff

SFFT, SFStL, TGE, SFDK - ????

The park themselves, and corporate have confirmed that Superman The Escape will be receiving a re-theme. And the only realistic idea is one side Bizarro, one side Superman.
