Best Arrow Looper?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby forddude1416 on February 24th, 2010, 3:53 pm
It's no secret to people who know me that I love arrow. I mean sure the Demon is one of the best roller coasters ever made, but which one is the best in the nation? I would have said shockwave... if I ever got a chance to ride her. What about her clones? What about the slightly neutered version of her at Kings Island (The Vortex). Take into consideration, it isn't about speed or elements, its about the whole experience.
What's really funny, is that you think I'm from the GP (General Public). When indeed, I most likely know far more about the coaster, as I've rode it multiple times.
I like Demon and Lochness Monster (it has loops but no corkscrews, so no headbanging!).

Gasm in the back has a substantial amount of airtime however after the first drop your forced to brace yourself the rest of the ride. I personally love Gasm but the GP hate it and there is never a line. The front offers an amazing ride with pure speed being felt. It makes you think your riding El Toro it is so fast.

Personally, I like the smaller Arrow loopers better, such as Demon or corkscrew at Valleyfair/Cedar Point. Demon is my favorite one out of the one's I've been on.

I'm a pretty big arrow fan, from X to Flight Deck to Corkscrew, I love all arrows, however I feel that the larger arrow loops are just way to rough and unenjoyable, I've been on Vortex (KI) GASM and Viper and Viper is definitely the smoothest and I enjoyed it, but Vortex and GASM were just rough and uncomfortable with there odd unproportional elements and such.

I think that the arrow looper at Dollywood looks really good, because they figured out how to do proportional elements, If they didn't go bankrupt I think they would have made some great things...

Besides X2, my favorite Arrow coasters are Flight Deck and Ninja, to me Arrows suspended coasters are built to perfection, I love the intensity they have, don't be fooled, these are really good coasters. (Well Except Iron Dragon, that one kind of sucks a little bit)

I really don't like Arrow coasters, so I can't give a full answer. Out of the very few I've rode, Demon. But for ALL Arrow coasters, X.

X2 wins hands down in the Arrow looping department of the rides I have been on from Arrow.

I will say, Shockwave was a great coaster in its early years but over time it became a torture device. Toward the end of its life, I only rode in the back seat to avoid the infamous death turn after the 3rd loop.

That is also how I feel about Vortex at Kings Island. Strictly a backseat coaster which made a tolerable and fun ride.

I still enjoy Demon to this day and feel its one of the better small scale Arrow loopers out there.

But if we can include all Arrow coasters, I like their mine rides.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Shockwave wouldn't appear on my list.

X2 would obviously be my favorite Arrow, and I also really enjoy their suspended coasters as well. Big Bad Wolf and Ninja were both great. (Let's spare Iron Dragon...)

Tennessee Tornado was a really smooth and enjoyable Arrow Looper, probably my favorite Arrow Looper out there. Viper was decent, but trimmed to death because otherwise it turned into Shockwave. But most of those big Arrow loopers out there are miserable rides....

I've been on so many arrows & to be honest, though it was a roughrider I miss Shockwave. So when I rode GASM this summer, I had the time of my life and to me these were arrows best. X2 wins for individuality so to speak. That ride was such a breakthrough. It amazed all of us. However she's rough too. But I don't mind. isn't it insane that almost every damn park has had an arrow coaster?!

The shuttle loops. I have been on the one at Fun Spot and the one at Blackpool. Those things are crazy as hell!

Otherwise I would have to say Canyon Blaster in Vegas. It is glass smooth, awesome airtime, and the whole ride is a giant head/face chopper. Not to mention, it feels like you are going twice as fast because you are inside.

Definitely Loch Ness Monster and Tennessee Tornado for me!!! Both rides are very smooth in transition, extremely interesting in layout and special elements (caves, etc.) as well as being quite smooth and lengthy! However, Big Bad Wolf will always be my favorite Arrow coaster of all time....such a shame its gone now! :(
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(

Well, best Arrow looper is like being the worlds best smelling turd, or worlds tallest midget, but I'd have to go with Dragon Mountain at Marineland. Got an awesome terrain utilizing layout, some sweet tunnels, alot of unfinished themeing and a bizarre and dangerously dark station. Also not overly rough.

You kind of a narrowed it down a lot. Do you mean any Arrow with the loop element inversion, or any Arrow that has any inversion?

I would say for any inversion Arrow, it would be X followed by Demon, than Vortex.

For any Arrow, it would have to be the Mine Train at SFOT, than the one at SFOG, than the one at SFStL, (To me, the best Arrow mine trains are the one with the drop at the end. The Magic Mountain doesn't have that, and the one at Cedar Point is just boring.) and than something else other than Mine Train would be Ninja at Magic Mountain for 4th favorite Arrow.

I guess for me in ranking Arrows, it is:
1. Mine Trains (not all of course)
2. Suspended (again not all - Only been on 3 and like 2: 2 I like are Ninja, and Flight Deck at Kings Island)
3. 4th Dimension
4. Inversion sitdowns

So many either love it or say it is hard to ride in the best position...still cannot believe 10 million was spent on still a relatively new ride

Shockwave was my favorite out of the Arrow loopers I've done, with GASM a slightly lower in 2nd place. The only reason I rank Shockwave higher is because of all the memories I have of riding it. GASM was awesome though too. Vortex at KI is a fun ride too!

Out of creativity, I would have to say Drachen Fire. That roller coaster just looks awesome, I know there were some problems but it invented the cut back and wraparound corkscrew. Out of all the roller coasters Loch Ness Monster, it's kinda awesome. Of course both X and Demon are going to be there, but that's a given.
"Park staff later claimed that they were offered a hundred bucks a pop to try to the slide, but refused after seeing that test dummies often emerged on the other end dismembered. The looping slide was actually closed down for most of the park’s life due to these injury concerns."

I would go with Dragon Mountain or Loch Ness Monster. I will only "vote" for ones I have been on not just what one looks like in a video or in pictures.
