So I read in a article that Giant Drop maybe closing, but it didn't say when? this is what the article said
On July 27, 2009, after persistent rumors of the demise of Giant Drop and Car 4's belt snap, and "won't drop" position. Six Flags' Great America employee's began telling of the closure of Giant Drop. Rumors say that Six Flags is planning to demolish the Ampitheter and stalls in this area, to construct a new Intamin Powered launch coaster.
I also did hear a employee talk about it when I last went, we were in line, and the Employee was talking to another Employee about it!
I hope this dosen't happen, I hope it will just be a stupid rumor
I really like Giant Drop. I would never wait too long for it, but usually you can get on within 10 minutes and it's really easy to get a reride in one of the empty seats. Please don't take away Giant Drop!
I wouldn't care if it closed. When I went on it before (I don't go on it anymore because there have been problems at not just SFKK with cables on that ride), it was pretty empty. I think it gets old quick.
I don't really think they would put in anything Intamin. They have had problems with Superman: Ride of Steel at (Six Flags New England), they have had problems with V2 (Now, it doesn't stop at the top), they have had problems with SFKK Drop Tower, they have had problems with Superman the Escape at Magic Mountain, they have had problems with SFOT rapids ride, they have had problems with Kingda Ka, and I kind of think they had problems with El Toro. Is there any Intamin coaster that Six Flags owns that they didn't have some sort of problems with.
Looking at other Intamin rides, you have Top Thrill Dragster snapping the cable, Millenium Force cable snapped multiple times, California Screamin' crashed, and Maverick had a major flaw when they first put it up. Why would anyone buy something Intamin?
What happened to Splash Water Falls area? What are they going to tear down the whole park next year or what? Geesh, you have Space Shuttle America, Giant Drop and Ampitheater is what your saying, and Splash Water Falls area. What about Looney Tunes area?
They need to buy a Premier ride if they are going for roller coasters!! I know they had Premier problems before, but not that many as Intamin. Also, don't get a 2 sided LIM coaster as the power is just too much. However, I think they need to work on different flats. They are willing to take down Rolling Thunder, Z-Force, Deja Vu, Shockwave, Tidal Wave and so on, but the flats they have now like Hometown Fun Machine, The Orbit, Antique cars, Fiddler's Fling, Condor, and so on are sacred that they can't replace them with something better. I ride 4 of these flats, but they would so much be worth getting rid of if they put something so much better in.

Maverick's problem came from a badly planned element. The ride was designed by Cedar Point and manufactured by Intamin. Intamin shouldn't be soley faulted for that one. Superman the Escape aside, the magnetic launch coasters are higly reliable. Much more so that the hydraulic cable launch which was, in my opinion, a very bad idea from the start. There are too many moving parts for a launch of that speed for it to be reliable. The absence of the pause break on V2 is not due to a design flaw, it's due to lack of maintainance funding to repair/replace it. Cables breaking on Millenium Force is to be expected. Steel cables break. It happens on elevators and other things all the time. You can't expect the same piece of coiled steel cable to pull and move millions of times without a problem. I'm sure the parks that have the problems are perapred for them and it's the public that makes a big deal out of it. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Giant Drop go for a new coaster. Sure it's fun but a new coaster will be more fun than a 3 second drop. If it will be a launched coaster, I hope it's Intamin because theirs are the only ones comfortable enough to be worth more than 2 to 3 years of rides. I'm also paying close attention to the pieces of yellow B&M track that are accumulating outside the factory in Ohio that no one seems to know too much about. Either way, the amphitheater is nearly adjacent to the Splash Waterfalls site so this is one of the more realistic rumors I've heard in awhile.

When you said you read it in an article, I thought it was an article. Not Wikipedia. I could go on there and say a purple dragon told me that God proclaimed not removing Iron Wolf would result in iminent death to all riders.
OMG you people! I cant believe how dumb you are! I bet TNT wrote this on wikipedia.com as you all know anyone can change what it says on wikipedia!
TNT wrote this on wikipedia.com posted here as an article and then he marked that he heard employees talking about it...
Its a sense of thinking, and you all would know its a rumor.
Six Flags will not demolish Giant Drop, its a reliable ride and maintenance doesnt cost much as well. Six Flags will not build an ACEr dream, an intamina launch coaster (when I heard that part, I was like def. a rumor).
Six Flags Ameirca as the number 1 park at SFI.... this is JOKE!
You got to admit though it goes with Six Flags new line of thinking. Take 4 things out (Splash is already gone, Ampitheater, Giant Drop, Antique Cars), and replace it with one thing. Than, you do the thing that since this coaster goes in County Fair, we can't open it till 11 am even if the line and station are in Southwest Territory. Maybe, they would take down Demon too. How about 5 attractions not operating for the price of one? Six Flags you show them how to save money on operations, and lose customers.
