Son of Beast at Kings Island appears to be SBNO again, its been closed for a while and the park hasnt said how long it will be down and no one knows why. Of all the coasters ive been on (and ive been on STE, TTD, and Ka) I must say SOB is BY FAR the most intimidating and while its a crappy ride its still one of the most popular there.
This sucks for people that don't have the credit but I'm glad it is down. The ride was downright awful when i rode it at Ride Warriors Weekend in May.
When we did the walk back to the area by the loop used to be, the ride seemed as fine as it could be. They were telling us there were no problems, so not sure what to take it as. It does make me glad we got to do the walkback if the ride is done for.
Yeah, it was crowded as I was walking by. I couldn't believe they would wait in line for that thing, but Flight Deck had no line. Come on, the best Arrow Suspended out of 3 I've been on, and you are passing it up for that? Ninja, and Iron Dragon are the other ones. Iron Dragon is JUNK!
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
^ The one ride I got on it was about 25 minutes after opening on a Friday in May. The line was about 30 minutes for front row. Even worse was the next day, when the line had to be well over an hour plus.
And I agree Flight Deck is a great ride. Longest wait was 1 cycle for front row.
That was pretty funny how they thought they would be the first park to have a loop on a wooden coaster only to have to remove it less than 7 years later...well not funny to all those who got hurt...that loop looked really bad
Actually, the loop was the best part of the ride as it was the only smooth spot.
The loop had nothing to do with the accident. The old trains were deemed to heavy which caused a piece of wood to buckle resulting in the accident. In order to use lighter trains, the loop had to be removed.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
^ The ride supposedly isn't any better now than it was before. As far as I'm concerned, the loop was all that SOB had going for it. I have not ridden it since the loop was removed so I can't really judge it yet. Even with the loop, it was mediocre at best (I didn't love it or hate it).
I've ridden SOB a few times this year for the first time since the loop was removed. The Gerstlauers do make it track a lot better and smoother, although it's still not what you would call good. In fact it can still be brutal in some seats. And I'd agree there's really no net change from before. The loop was the only decent part of the ride. So now the horrible roughness has been traded in only mind numbing roughness at the cost of the loop.

I rode SOB the first year it opened and I thought it was the roughest ride i've ridden. I rode it earlier this season and it wasn't horrible. Although, it hurt my chest for some reason. Even with the lighter trains, it still is an real SOB haha.
