How along ago did they have the Cobra?? I haven't seen it for a really long time. In fact, I've never seen that ride. I think that ride came from another company. Sometimes, they have book-ins with other carnivals.
The third or fourth units usually don't have the greatest stuff. There new name for there third name is Family Fun Festivals. I don't know why. There third or fourth might be Tornado, Tilt-A-Whirl, Gravitron, Round Up, Cliffhanger, Bumper Cars (even though I think this is now first unit), 1001 Nachts, a Eli 12 Ferris Wheel, Super Sizzler, and Pharoah's Fury. The fourth unit might be just a couple of there rides being booked in.
The first and second units usually have the upside down rides. The first unit almost always has the purple Zipper, and the Fireball (Ring of Fire), and the second unit might have the Himalaya, and the red Zipper. The first unit's lineup is USUALLY the purple Zipper, Predator (Tivoli Orbiter), Fireball (Ring of Fire), Bumper Cars, Swinger (sometimes), Super Shot (Giant Drop ride), Century Wheel, small ferris wheel (sometimes), and the Tilt-A-Whirl.
They have two Zippers. One is purple and one is red. Family Fun Amusements (3rd or 4th unit) usually has the kiddie rides.
The ride similar to that Cobra ride even though it's probably not the same thing as what you are looking for is X Scream. To me, it looks like Majestic is selling Windy City's. It looks like the Bloomingdale Festival in the picture. http://www.majesticrides.com/pics/used%20xscream1-2.JPG

I last rode the Cobra in 2000.... and it was a Windy City owned ride.... it just had some very frequent mechanical problems... which too also led to its demise : (. It ran one of the longest programs you'll find at any carnival.

I had already been on the rides at other carnivals, so I felt no need to ride them. Except for the awesome Turbo Force, I went on that twice. That ride has to be most fun at night. But seriously, it was better when it had the Himalaya, Zipper, Super Sizzler, Gravitron, the ferris wheel, and all those other rides... I don't know where I'll find a carnival like that again.
Your in luck DejaVuGurl!!! I just walked through the New Lenox Proud American Day Carnival and they had Zipper, Ferris Wheel, Gravitron, Tilt-A-Wirl, Himilaya, Swing Ride, and Pharoah's Fury. Gotta love the classic Windy City Amusement carnivals and it's close to you as well! Anyways, it started today (but was cancelled due to the Tornado) and goes through Sunday (July 30). Anyone can PM me if they need to know anything else or if you wanna meet me there on Saturday.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
They have one more ride that we had last week. You have the Watkins Swinger. I'm almost 99% sure that the truck for the Zipper is red! I call it the Mexican Zipper!!! Oooh, someone has a date.
I have found out that most of the carnivals around here have better safety records than Six Flags (Windy City, All Around, Great American Rides, Astro, All Star). This is to debacle everyone who doesn't want to go to your local fair because it is put in a matter of days, and you basically don't trust anyone who operates these rides. This is especially to Punkbunny, and everyone else!
You have to remember that those rides are inspected (not by carnival workers) by state officials before they work!!

Uh, actually before I got on the zipper last week they stopped the ride and just hammered in a loose nut and bolt or something. Eh, I still went on it afterwards anyways.
That Zipper was having troubles anyway. The ride was going quite slow. The tires would stop, and start up again. This isn't a safety issue though. The problem is that of the motor, or if you were to look at the tires, you would see that they are really worn. In my opinion, they aren't really taking care of that Zipper. It really needs to be refurbished! The Zipper never comes off the truck, so I have no idea what they would be hammering on the ride.
The cars are probably the only thing. If you also notice on them, attached to the door, there is a little strong wire like on a Sky Ride (Cedar Point has one) that holds onto the left car door anyway. So, if a bolt came off that side of the door, it would still be attached anyway!!
This means that it is harder to grip the round steel wheel on the ends of it. You know that if you have a car, and you have really old tires, they will soon start skid a lot easier. The problem is the tires have no grooves in them. This was Kanakee Fair in St. Charles!!
The owners of the ride are Wilson's Family Shows, and they booked in with Fantasy Amusements. At that carnival, they also owned the Orbiter, the Zipper, and the Wipeout. They mgiht have also had some other rides too.
This wasn't Windy City Amusements by the way! It was working GREAT! It was here last week! I'm talking about the red one. I also don't see problems with the purple one either.
