Aero or one of you other weather buffs, where can i find a chart of lightning strikes from last night
Edit #500!!
Do you remember the 1 big crack of lighting that sound like an explosion? What was weird is it seemed to knock out the power for like 1 seconds but when I went in my living room the only thing that seemed to have gone off and come back on was my microwave because there was no time on it yet the stove time was correct.
It was freaky though, when that went off it seemed to have got dark for like a couple of seconds then light again.
What really sucked is it was 1:00 am and it felt like 3 or 4 am.
I did see a lighting map on CLTV from that night and it looked intense, there was lots of pink around our area on that map.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/
Friday night was pretty crazy here. The storms were on and off til about 4 AM or so. For a while there was lightning every 5 seconds, it was crazy. A garage in Oak Forest got struck by lightning at some point too.
About 150 sensors placed around the CONUS detect magnetic changes in the atmosphere caused by lightning strikes. They are very accurate but don't get everything.
Unfourtunalty this is an expensive service and is not yet availble for free on the internet.
Hmm that makes me wonder. What do these "sensors" look like? Do you know? About 150 feet behind my house there is a steel box (like the ones telephone company uses) except its about 10ft by 10 ft. It has a NOAA sign, and it has a fence on it that says "Highly sensitive magnetic feilds, Do not enter, Trespassers may be persecuted........."
