While there are several good atricles most of them accessible by looking up Stock Ticker symbol PKS on Yahoo and all the news stories are there, one blurb from the Dick Kinsel(sp?) Conference Call that I listened in on that may answer a question here, Geauga Lake will NOT accept Six Flags Season Passes in 04, anyone who bought one can trade it in for a GL only pass or get a full refund, in addition GL will NOT accept Cedar Fair passes this year. And to finish off the trifecta, GL passes sold by Cedar Fair once the park opens will NOT be good at any SF parks (though I bet if you already bought a psss there you can process it at any other park, though if that's the case with anyone, do check with the park(s), just a guess on my end(besides it being the right thing for SF to do)
Also as stated all Time Warner/Looney Toons stuff must go, all rides are exepected to open with the park exept the enterprise which is in pieces (whats new), though this year rides on the Seaworld side should open, in the future the Seaworld side will probably be sold, as Cedar Fair has no use for it.
Thing that sucks is, this deal is getting SF something like 345 million dollars for SFWOA and 7 European Parks, even if they put every last cent towards paying off their debt they are still in over 2.1 BILLION dollars in debt.

I wonder how cheezy of names CF can come up with. Geauga Lake is a boring name as it is (fits with CF's park name scheme though). I wonder if GL will contantly get the short end of the stick when it comes to funding for new rides/improvements in Ohio.
S:UE will be come Snoop's ride to town and B:KF will become Charlie Brown's Math Test. But seriously now they could rename S:UE with a patriotic theme. Cept add some white in there.
I think the hardest area Cedar Fair will have to retheme is the area around Batman: Knight Flight. They will have to retheme all 10 feet they had of Gotham City there. Besides that the renaming everything should be rather easy to do if they just put up temporary signs and take down the old ones.

Any name they come up with for Superman and Batman will be odd, and hard to get used to. Especially for the people who have it as there home park. And if they rename X-Flight, does that make my T-shirt a collectors item? Is there such thing as a coaster T-shirt collectors item even?
Dave...who is just learning how to spell "Geauga Lake" correctly.
Well with the money that they recieve from SFwoa and the european Parks they will probally buy SFMW for 55 million. Many of the animals will probally go their. This option for them to buy the park from the city expires in 2005
From a Business Standpoint, The purchase of SFWoA doesnt really make alot fo sense. Here's why:
Already Cedar Point dominates that part of the Midwest/Northeast. Buying SFWoA canibalizes (Meaning takes business away from CP even if its still owned by CF from CP.) Putting it another way, it would be like building a Starbucks across the street from a starbucks.
Ultimately what eventually will happen is this: The Park formally known as Worlds of Adventure will no longer exist. If Six Flags couldnt generate a profit with it, and Cedar Fair doesnt want to loose business away from Cedar Point, then having two parks in a realitivly short distance from eachother makes no sense at all.
Theroretically, having CF own CP and SFWoA sounds on paper to be a great idea, but in reality its an example of a better company buying out its competiton example: The 2001 Take over of TWA by American Airlines, (for those of you who are plane/airline nuts youll know this story) TWA basically went under after that point.
Prediction: SFWoA to no longer be on the map with-in a few years. Which is a terrible shame from the region.
Alot of stuff could happen with them. Its a very confusing buisness out there. Hopefully it never will have to close for good if CF does a horrible job with it.
I pretty much already said what Galvan said but yeah I agree with him. I dont see why they would want to compete with the flagship park (especially since they wont be able to get people to GL anyway). Hopefully it wont get Subway disease and start stealing customers from itself.
I seriously doubt CF has any intentions of selling GL.
They said in the conference call that they market CP as a destination park(2 day visit), and will market GL as a regional 1 day park for families.
SFWoA never materialized into competition for Cedar Point. CP generated 3.3 million people this last year. With those numbers, SF wasn't a threat at all.
These 2 parks can co-exist. In case you haven't figured it out, they have been co-existing with eachother for over 100 years.
So from a business standpoint, this was a good move for both SF and CF.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

What about Cedar Fair are what is their financial situation

And the fact that they're getting rid of the parks that drain out capital and dont bring in revenue....
I think CF Purchased the park because they think that they can make 2 parks co-exist with each other without them taking the business from one another. (Just like Disney) There basic hope is that you will go to CP for 2 days and then stop by GL for another day. So now instead of them taking your money for 2 days they will take money from you for 3 days. The major problem is, it appears that GL will not be different then CP. And people will only choose 1 park instead of both. The only way to have people go to both parks it too makes GL different. Making a Family Amusement Park will not cut it for people to go to both parks. SFWOA was a different park then CP. They had the Wild life side.
Of course this idea will work. They own the Northern Ohio region(CP and GL), and the Michigan region(Michigan's adventure), and most of the people in eastern Indiana will more then likely go to CP, GL or MA, over SfGaM or Holiday World.
I think I've recovered some. I'll have to make it to GL on opening day. I'll let you guys know how it is. I think maybe this may be a step in the right direction for the park, although I believe 2003 was a better year than what they made it out to be.
Here is the first batch of pictures Chitown from 3/13/04. This was just a few days after the announcement. I've been busy this week so this was the first chance I had to get them up. Hope you like them. http://community.webshots.com/album/126673225IHwhDN
