I did say traditional woodies which excludes the lazer cut El Toro and SFGAm not withstanding so same with Eagle and Viper, most wood coasters in the SF chain flat out suck, along the lines of Colossus, Psyclone (gone), Rattler, Texas Giant after a bunch of reprofilings and trims, so on and so forth.

Think of the majority of Disney people that go to the park, and who are they. You probably would have some 85% of families at Disney, and they aren't going to vote on this stuff.
Disney is a weird theme park for enthusiast. They do almost everything better than other parks including things they did not win awards for. However, their rides are never about pure thrills. As a local, this gets me to the parks more than SF Great America ever could. But for a one time visitor who hates Disney or has no kids, the parks are blah.
El Toro should be #1. 'Nuff said. And Nitro deserves it's spot - I haven't been on Bizarro at SFNE but Nitro safely lands at my #2 steel after MF. I like it better than Diamondback (which is slow and not so graceful on the bottoms of the hills) and Apollo's Chariot (which just doesn't have as good of a layout).
But Columbia Carousel has no reason to be the Best Carousel - it looks nice, and it should win an award for "Best LOOKING Carousel", but heck, even Great Adventure has a more historically important carousel - and they didn't get on! (It was built in 1889 and it's BRITISH - OOOOO)
One more thing, there's no way Forbidden Journey should be behind Tower of Terror, let alone Haunted Mansion at Knoebel's.
FParker has it right, no money changed hands over these awards, the parks that traditionally do well just go way out of their way to please the enthusiasts who will be voting on them. And really these awards don't mean anything but something for the marketing departments to use. Basically the golden tickets are a display of what "enthusiasts" like.
I think Cedar Fair is the one who cannot maintain wooden roller coasters, All you'd have to do is ride Beast today versus what it was before Cedar Fair took over Kings Island, that ride was amazing, today the ride is terrible. Shivering Timbers is another example of this.
Without readin any responses, I have to say the Golden Ticket awards are voted upon these old enthusiasts who hold onto to things way to long & have heard parks pay their way to winnings...how I don't know. But its BS anyway. As for wooden, Voyage & El Toro deserve it. Steel... NO! Bizarro & Maverick should have won. Now I think the only reason I305 didn't get "best new ride of 2010" was due to the terrible but I guess "necessary" changes made to it.
Year after to year I get odded out by the winnings but again, Millennium, whether its my "baby" or not, didn't deserve it. BIZARRO NUMBER ONE!
^ Even if I305 was the best coaster ever made, it would have never beat Forbidden Journey... FJ is an experience, not just a ride. And it's "Best Dark Ride" spot was already robbed.
