So? Kiddieland had free soda/parking also, whose attendance do you think was higher SFGAm or Kiddieland? The more variety you have in the park to bring people in the higher the attendance will be. Holiday World may be owned by a family that loves their park but SF had the power of a corporation and could've probably destroyed HW if they weren't passive with SFKK and put their tail between their legs.
BP/19 wrote:I went to SFKK last year on a beautiful Saturday during Fright Fest, and all of the coasters had empty trains all day. That should give you an idea of that parks popularity. Chang was a huge loss to this park, I don't think a lot of people around SFGAm would appreciate Raging Bull being removed for a waterpark expansion. The shrinking of the park's product definitley hurt attendance.
Also I don't think it was one of the worst parks in the country, it was actually a pretty nice little park but did need more to do on the dry-side. Theres no reason it can't compete with Holiday World, it's in a much more populated area. The problem is the best coaster in the park is a 30 year old shuttle loop and the other big rides are an awful SLC, and a terribly rough wooden coaster. Whereas HW has Raven, Legend, Voyage, and a better waterpark.
Fright Fest has been downgraded also. Back then their used to be 4 hunted houses, zombies running arround, the bumper cars used to get boarded up and inside you will have fun on the bumpercars in the dark with laser lights and smoke, their also was alot, ALOT of decorations around the park! pumpkins, hay corn stalks! I remember when I was younger they used to let us Kids decorate cookies and paint pumpkins! it was so fun and yummy too lol.
Last year at fright fest there was one hunted house at the front of the park, which has been downgraded. Their was also one in the Northwest Terriotory known as the woods of the wicked, which also has been downgraded! their where hardly any decorations, and their were also no zomebies at the park walking around scaring guest for the last couple of seasons. No pumpkins, hay, corn stalks! nonthing! The only thing that hasn't change was the giant pumpkin at the parks entrance! its been their for ever back to Ed Hart days!

Kiddieland was also a small park that never tried to draw from a 4 state radius. Nor did they do what Holiday World did and market itself aggressively via national media as a small park with tons of charm. Holiday World is a marketing machine that beyond impressive for any park, let alone one of their size. It makes an average at best park seem amazing to most.
And Holiday World made did make profit because of those new expanding attractions! Which is something Kentucky Kingdom needed inorder to had become a sucess under the Six Flags name, but that didn't happend did it?
^How many years was it between expansion each year at HW on a large scale at the dry park? The 5 years between Raven and Legend and 6 more years between Legend and Thanksgiving section. The rest of the time was small upgrades such as the kiddie section and replacing old rides with the same model.
What the park did spend money on each year was water park. Guess what, adding to their water park drove attendance up and has been what every addition for the last 4 years has been. Seems to be the same plan SFKK was following with their water park: Adding what the people come there for, water rides.

It doesn't matter what they recieved! its either a waterslide or coaster or flat ride, It's still a major addition! Everywater attraction they add seems to be a major attraction! and they do it year by year!
Six Flags only added two major waterrides to the waterpark, Tornado and Deluge. The waterpark isn't big as many people think. To me, Deluge is the only ride Six Flags put in the park last decade that you can't find anywhere else! Tornado is a ride that you can find at just about any other park!
Hold onn!! wait a min... Last 4 years? Holiday World added The Voyage 4 years ago! A huge drawer to the park! later the gaint Bakuli bowl! Kima Bay! Then the thrill/family ride Pelgriums Plunge! and this year the Wildebeast Water Coaster a major huge drawer to the park! Rides and Attractions you can't find anywhere else!
^Voyage was 5 years ago in 2006. Also, if you notice, most of the additions are of the water variety. They understand the market in the water park is the back bone of the place. The fact they state in the park map that the best time to ride any non-water ride is in the afternoon shows that. Many of the rides you listed can be found elsewhere, but are just larger at HW.
I will also dispute that replacing old bumper cars with new ones or adding a mall style carousel is not a major addition.

It was 4 years ago! 10 - 4 = 6, even if they are water variety, they are major additions to the park. Also holiday world dry park is taking care of! new cars for the bumper cars is good! taking out older rides and replacing them with new ones, that means their park is taken care of!
Theres another Voyage Roller Coaster? Another Wildebeast? Another Bakuli in this area? I dont think so...
^This is the 5th year of the Voyage running. Try learning to count with years, not numbers.
For in the area, the Kentucky Rumbler and Beast are both in the area, Wilderbeast is a much larger of a SFKK ride and most indoor water parks have a slide similar but smaller version of Bakuli.
Who gives a F about the Kentucky Rumberler? No one arround this area goes to Beech Bend park, Everyone just goes kings island, Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World.
Wildebeast is just like a small roller coaster! this type of ride could be in a waterpark or outside a waterpark.
Kentucky Kingdom had a very small addition to the waterpark megawedgie which is a very lame small bulet bowl. Isn't popular, and isn't worth riding. Bakuli is very thrilling and fast and massive, and there is only one indoor waterpark around here.
This is not no KK vs Holiday World Thread.
The only thing Im saying is that Is if Six Flags invested into this park year by year, which ever park should do, This park maybe making way over 1.3 million a year. Now this park has to be highly invested in to be on the same level as other parks here in the ohio river valley!
SIX FLAGS WAS NOT MAKING A PROFIT FROM KENTUCKY KINGDOM!
Why don't you understand that!? if You open a park, and your not making a profit, how do you expect to add anything to the park? Six Flags tried adding new things, but due to the process by which the fair board must approve any or every action the park makes, it's hard. I'm sure Six Flags would have been happy not to remove your precious Chang, but Six Flags saw a park suffering, near death, and decided to just shut the thing down, and take what is rightfully theirs.
Also, could you try to use proper grammar, it's really hard to read your posts.

I have never seen any commercials in IL or heard any advertisements on the radio for Holiday World. For the marketing, the pr person has it on their website, but you have to hear about Holiday World in order to get there.
As for some of these extreme thrill rides at Holiday World, I don't really understand who they are trying to attract? If it's a "family" park, why aren't they more worried about rides like the Little Dipper instead of rides like the Voyage or Pilgrim's Plunge. It just doesn't make sense really. Maybe, that's why at that park they flock to the waterpark because these dry rides are too intense for them. I know Dorney Park is a park in which they flock to the waterpark also, and that to me has to do with the amount of roller coasters not being a lot -It's 9, but you have 3 kiddie coasters. And for the teens, they probably would bypass the mouse coaster, so for them that's 5 roller coasters worthy of them.
For the waterpark theory, I think a waterpark is going to be really packed when it's really, really hot out, when the regular park isn't built up enough (Dorney Park), or the regular park just stinks (Kentucky Kingdom example).
^For your comment about SFKK, the easy way to increase attendance is to add new things that are actually good. How about for Magic Mountain, they go back to having only so many of those coasters, and their attendance probably wouldn't be that great. I went Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, and I thought there is not one reason to come back to that park because the park is that bad. How do you expect for the park to get any better if they don't get anything new. For that park, they even closed down a roller coaster and left it standing because they didn't want to spend the money, and I think they left Splash Water Falls over there standing too.

I'm sorry for the grammer I type really fast. Add a ride, and pay it off with profits made by the public. The Fair board approved everything Six Flags added to the park. They are the ones who don't understand why Six Flags didn't invest in this park like any other park.
If I'm not mistaken, Six Flags tried by adding attractions like Road Runner, Greezed Lightning and such, but non of which worked to bring in attendance.
Six Flags does not make a dime from the parking which is probably almost half if not more of the profits they made. Or didn't make.
Road Runner is a cheap mouse, and Greezed Lightning is a used and abused ride. After our park, remember it went to Six Flags Over Georgia, and they didn't even keep it.

Six Flags added Twisted Sisters, but Twisted Sisters was planned by Ed hart anyways after the 1997 season. That bought in alot of crowds. Road Runner was sort of a down grade from The Vampire. That year in 2000, everyone went to Kings Island because the Son of Beast open, The Worlds Tallest, Fastest, and only wooden coaster with a loop! I don't even think Six Flags advertised Road Runner to be honest it was cheap! The ride was just there when I went to the park. For greezed Lightin, the ride isn't major. The park should have recived a NEW major ride like your superman flight ride, or steel venom, something thrilling! not a freaking 30 year old coaster that breaks down so often! We needed a ride you couldn't find anywhere else around here in the Ohio River Valley. That what Kings Island and Holiday World been doing!

So earlier you said any ride was a major addition including a carousel and bumper car upgrade at Holiday World. Now adding a thrilling shuttle loop coaster was not a major addition? Shame you feel that way as it is the only good and somewhat unique ride left at the former SFKK.
Deluge is a ride on the water side as it's a water slide. I'm not saying that the ride wouldn't be a good ride, but it's not a ride really helping the dry side park. Granted though, I think it's accessible to the dry park and the wet park, but still not a dry ride. Remember this park took out their Giant Drop because of a reason and never replaced it with anything of goodness, and they took out the Rainbow.

The park had deluge open before the waterpark open. Its been like this since its been open. Their was a gate open for guest to ride it when the waterpark wasn't open during the season. They even had it running the parks last day. Most guest wishes the Hellavator was still there, and the same goes for rainbow.
naww, many people are still saying six flags should have just fixed the problem. Many guest came up to me last season telling me wheres the hellavator, i want to ride it, sixflags is dum that why they in bankrupt, and also saying the park should have just fixed the ride, or replace it with something new! If they never change the hellavators name to Superman Tower Of Power, this would have never happend! Many people want another tower.
