I visited Cedarpoint.com and was greeted with perhaps some of the biggest false advertisements I have ever seen...
In huge red letters over lapping a happy picture of Charlie Brown and a family smiling jubilantly.... it read:
"Biggest Smiles on the Planet"
okay... Later I got another image this time of Maxair
"The Biggest Spin cycle on the Planet"
I refreshed the page..
Castaway Bay/Cedar Point Resorts
"Best Vacation on the Planet"
Then there was a picture of MF...
"Best Roller Coaster on the Planet" that’s up for some debate.
Can Cedar Point get anymore cocky? Seriously? How can you honestly say that a ride that hasn’t even opened yet be "The Greatest" especially when there’s an exact replica 5 hours to the south?
Best Vacation on the Planet? umm for a place that’s only open in the spring and the summer months I can give you a list about as long as my arm of places that anyone with fully functioning brain can say.. "Best Vacation Ever" and on that long nearly 3 foot list, an indoor water park would be near the bottom.
So that leaves MF, "Best Coaster on the Planet?" maybe, but i can list 5 that are pretty damn close.
So what’s the deal with Cedar Point being so cocky all of a sudden? Has the success of Mr. Six, a dancing geriatric really gotten to these people? Or the fact that CP doesn’t have a "Tallest and Fastest" coaster anymore really made that much of an impact on them that they need to slap "THE BEST" on everything.
i got another one for Cedar Point...
"THE BEST USE OF FALSE ADVERSITING ON THE PLANET"
Question: How exactly do you measure the "Biggest Smiles on the Planet?"
Galvan's list of 5 Better then MF Coasters:
1. X
2. Deja Vu
3. Raging Bull
4. Riddlers Revenge
5. Batman the Ride
Galvan, you made a great case for Cedar Point being too cocky. I agree, they think they are the non-refuted, greatest park on the planet. Considering I have been to Cedar Point enough times to know, they really don't have much of a reason to say so, except the fact that they have a lot of roller coasters....wow roller coasters...let's count how many of those are sub-par rides. The part that makes me even more mad, is the people who buy Cedar Point's advertisement. Since I live in Ft. Wayne, IN (actually New Haven, that's a whole 'nother discussion) everyone here goes to Cedar Point and no other amusement park. People here are under the impression that Six Flags "sucks" even though I can count on one hand how many people I know have actually gone to the park. I think Cedar Point needs to tone down their advertisement a bit, because again, all they really have is roller coasters.
The only good news to add to the Cedar Point discussion is that Dragster is basically useless now. MF is an actual roller coaster that retains its power even after being surpassed as the tallest roller coaster on the planted. Dragster on the other hand, may be one big rush, but it's a novelty ride that has been overtaken by just a bigger version of itself, which Six Flags happens to own .
Heh, Coasterbuzz...I remember about 2 years ago when I was really getting into roller coasters and I joined their forums. I started some topic about "Paramount vs. Six Flags" or something. It was really stupid of course. Well, anyway I remember they went nuts and shut it down right away.
Anyway, most of the people on Coasterbuzz seem to be wierdo 30 year olds and they will probably go insane over that topic. Link the topic if it gets good

(I don't mean to knock on CB at all by this post)
I couldn't agree with you more. If you post one opinion of yours, they go all crazy on you. I just read it there for some general info on stuff, not to post all the time. Also, if there was a topic from 5 years ago already like the one you just made, they will close the topic. Gah. Okay, I'm finished. I just don't like CB at all.
Cedar Point probably just makes those things up not because they may not be true, but because the GP will see them and be sucked into them! That's just my opinion. You aren't going to go all crazy on me, are you...??
So after reading your post Galvan I decided to check out the website for my self....
....wow
How can maXAir be the best when the damn thing ain't even open?
Now wait, I could see if they said like "Millenium Force, voted best Coaster for <insert number> years, here at Cedar Point!" That I would of tolerated and looked over it. But claiming it as THE BEST coaster. Just a little over-board no? And the only reason they are now calling everything the best, is because Dragster is now just another coaster added to Cedar Point's long list, and no longer the saught after coaster. So what do they do? Slap everything they own with the "BEST" or advertise it with some very very specific record. This is going to be a long summer. *Get's the ear plugs*
In the 2004 Golden ticket awards CP not only won best park but MF was rated best coaster. Now not everyone will agree with it, but it is the most comprehensive in terms of asking people.
The one about Maxair is just PR spin (Pun Intended).
Before anyone starts going on about CP "cheating" remember that with a lot of Six Flags Great America's commericals there are videos of Non-SFGAm rides in there, which I think is more decieving than what Cedar Point is doing.
It really comes down to the wonderful world of marketing, they will do what they have to do to draw the crowds in.
At least they haven't pulled in Paul Ruben yet... Then I'd be sick.
Take a look at the Budweiser vs. Miller commericals, there's so much "fact" spewing there its awful.
Its meant to get people to come to the park, and I'm sure it will do that; if SFGAm had hired this ad agency I'm sure they would spew the same stuff through their PR machine.
Just like the following statement I will make :
Gemini is the best ride on the planet.
Simply because I said so, they can get anyone to say anything so in the end, its all really just PR spin.
The problem is that the word best is so far fetched. How do you measure something being the best? If SFGAm wanted to say that Viper is the best rollercoaster on the planet, they probably could. It probably is the best rollercoaster on the planet to ((someone)).
I guess the one thing that shocks me is that CP in attendance is nowhere near the top. (Yes, I do know it's not open as much as the parks in Florida.) So, really if your a theme park, you should try your best to copy off of US, and WDW instead of CP.

Don't you have a job operating Gemini? I don't know if this is true for cedar fair, but for Six Flags at least, I thought you weren't allowed to post on a forum in a thread about the company. Also, I go to cedar pointe about 1-2 per year, It's a very nice place with exceptional rollercoasters but, I can't say it's "the best vacation on the planet". Anyway, if Cedar Pointe wants to call themselves "the best vacation on the planet", let 'em.
Well, you cant post anything on the buzz boards thats bad about Cedar Point because the web master is big with Cedar Point over there. As for CP over doing the advertising.. they do have a good park, but I do think they have gotten a little away from the "small business taking care of each customer" type, but thats expected. Just look at how much they have grown over the last few years and the amount of parks they taken on.

No, that is only true about Six Flags, I can post all that I want, I just can't be stupid by posting things that either A. Put the company in bad light, or B. Disclose company secrets.
CP is nowhere near as strict as SFGAm is, most SF parks are less strict than SFGAm.
I read through the posts at CB, and I am really amazed. There were only about 5-6 replies that had to get their shot in at Six Flags. Lets not forget that if not for Six Flags taking a chance on certain coasters, Cedar Point would not have some of their "record breakers". I read the CB forums from time to time, and they treat you like you are complete moron when it comes to coasters, and amusement parks. You should never mention Six Flags, and Cedar Fair in the same sentence, or you will get a lashing. That is why I do not post there anymore. I give you alot of credit Galvin316 for posting this over at CB.
I do respect the views and opinions of everyone on this topic, but I
do say, Come on!!
I have to say, I love Six Flags, but Cedar Point is one of my favorite
parks in the industry.
#1: SFMM
#2: SFGAm
#3: Cedar Point (Very close 3rd, behind SFGAm)
Now, I'm going to side against Galvan on this issue. Now, let's
look at one quote that I would like to discuss:
"THE BEST USE OF FALSE ADVERSITING ON THE PLANET"
Ok, Galvan, every company, even Six Flags, will stretch the truth
in order to get people to use their products. Now, you might say that
Six Flags doesn't use False Advertising, if you think they don't, please
show me proof. A degree of False Advertising is in every advertisement
known to man.
---------------------------------------------------
Galvan's list of 5 Better then MF Coasters:
1. X
2. Deja Vu
3. Raging Bull
4. Riddlers Revenge
5. Batman the Ride
---------------------------------------------------
Now that is based in individual opinion. MF is one of my favorite coasters.
Come on, it's my opinion that MF is 1000 times better than Deja Vu.
Just because you don't rank MF high, doesn't mean that it's generally
a bad coaster.
As Tom Crean - Traitor has stated in his comments, MF was rated Best Coaster
of 2004. So, they have the right to say that MF is the best coaster.
Just because you, and others may not think so, doesn't mean that
they are wrong for putting that.
OVERALL, Cedar Point isn't wrong or out of line for advertising like that.
Now, many companies do go over board with some advertising.
It's my opinion that Mr. Six is a stupid, over the top advertising tool,
but you don't see me ranting and raving in the forum about it.
Advertising is Advertising. If you think they are totally using false
advertisement and it's stearing you wrong, then report it to the FCC.
Otherwise, just let them advertise how they want. It doesn't effect
you!

Some people here really have emotional problems. I side with Galvan because Cp does not have the right to call themselves the best vacation spot on the planet, there are other places that recieve a million more visitors than CP. Also, about the biggest spin cycle, that ride hasnt even been in operation yet, it is just like Delirium, I dont see them ranting about it.
I basically see them doing this because they lost their one advertisement slogan. The world's tallest and fastest coaster. They are just finding other things to replace it with, they need other things, so they are starting to make things up.
