Ring of Fire

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Virtua Tennis on August 6th, 2004, 10:05 pm
Alright, so I was going back to my house and walked by the annual fair thing so of course I was like "blah why go there when I can go to GAm?" like I normally say then I see a huge circle sticking out that says "Ring of Fire." I knew what these things were, I had never been on one before but it actually looked really good.
So of course I walked in hoping to go on it, baught tickets for it, walked up, and the carni was like "you have a partner?" well I didnt, so I said no. Apparently no single riders were allowed on, wtf is up with that? Of course my brother wouldn't go on it so I had tickets for it and wasn't even allowed to ride  (and it looked good). Anyway it was pretty much the only thing they had there so I ended up going on Gravitron because my brother would go on it, and yeah that sucked.

So anyone been on Ring of Fire? How is it? This one had a few cycles that stalled at the top and a few cycles that flew through it. Also is this some rule for the ride or did the fair company have some stupid policy?
Bah.

Its decent, nothing spectacular, if a Park Model were to be created with comfortability in kind it would be alot better.

P.S. You would have been obliverated(Sp?) if you were to ride alone.

I went on one of them once, it wasn't that great...and it made me kind of sick. But it's definitely better than Gravitron.

I've been on that ride plenty of times. At most fairs it was at that I went to, they allowed single riders. Only one fair didn't allow single riders, thankfully these 3 girls in front of me in line rode with me about 5 times or so. It's a decent ride I suppose. And yes, it's a lot better than Gravitron, blah I hate that ride.

Basically (on the models i've riden) if there wasnt a body next to you, you would basically be flying from side to side, not a good thing.

The carnival didnt happen to be Windy City Amusements did it?

Weird, it's just a circle no lateral movements...

I have been on the ride before, actually just recently as a matter of fact, and the kid that sat next to me was a single rider, so i dont know what the deal is with that no single rider idea. but i know it can be done, as for the Ride itself, awesome flat ride, the hang time is awesome at the top of the loop.

By the way, from my experiences on it, I was never thrown from side to side without anyone next to me. Though it does kinda throw me forward and backward a little bit, nothing too noticable though.

I've been on it before its ok not to many inversions.

The carnival by my house has a Top Spin this year :). I haven't been on it yet, because I am getting the unlimited rides on Sunday from 1-5, but it looks insane they had 2 programs going, 1 was about 15+ inversions. Then tonight these 4 people went on and they must have asked for the most insane program because that thing went upside down 40+ times(not exaguerating and on some of the flips they just stalled for like 5 seconds it was crazy. I doubt it will be like that on Sunday because alot of people will be going on it at once. The only other decent ride is called the Hi-Roller its hard to explain what it is but it looks pretty cool. Then there is swings, a Himalya type ride, Ghost Train looks pretty dumb but I will probally give it a whirl and then a few other rides,

Were you at Grayslake County Fair????? I say this because we passed this going to SFGAm and they had a Ring of Fire.

HighRoller would look like this
http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%2 ... train.html
The track flips (ovalish white thing) while the train or cars, keep on following the track. It's not a great ride. It's different, and I guess for an inversion ride, it makes it more fun.

The Ring of Fire has been done before with the Kamikaze. It looks a little different, but it's basically the same thing.

Back to the Ring of Fire topic.
I never been on the Ring of Fire, but I've been on the Fireball at Windy City Amusements which is very similiar. Windy City does let single riders on this ride. The Octopus and the Zipper are the two rides they won't have you have single rides.

The main difference in the Ring of Fire and the Fireball is that of the cars. On the Ring of Fire, you are more cramped for space, unlike the Fireball. It's nothing special for me. Imagine the Demon going around and around in the first loop, it's the same thing.

I've gone to the Grayslake County Fair before (I live right by it). I just don't trust the safety standards of those carnivals, especially when Great America is 10 minutes away.

WI State Fair has a decent midway this year, 20 dollars for a wristband with one coaster, two kiddie coasters, and a couple really thrilling flats.
Top 5 wood-5-Goliath 4-Ravine Flyer II 3-Phoenix 2-Voyage 1-El Toro
Top 5 Steel- 5-Velocicoaster 4- Maverick 3- Fury 325 2-Steel Vengeance 1-X2
Coaster Count: 444

No, it was a carnival in Des Plaines. And yeah that is what the High Roller looks like, I'll give it a whirl tommorow but I want to ride the Top Spin mostly.

Are you guys talking about the fire ball? If you are the ride is SO fun! Its like the power dive. I also like the ZIPPER thats more like King Chaos.
No matter how hard it is...Never EVER give up. The real failure is those who dont try.

It's definitely a flat ride, not a coaster. It's powered the entire way and . . . .wait - there are some coasters that do that. Who classifies coasters anyway?

Yeah they do - but some people will call Batman and Robin at SFGAdv, AE, Gwazi, or rides like that different coasters. RCDB only counts them as one.

I go to the Grayslake (actually called Lake County) Fair every year. Anyway, when I went the ring of fire was down. I don't think that I have ever seen it in operation at that fair.

I could easily count AE as one but, Gwazi, which I have ridden, is definately two different coasters. But I don't want to get into that.
Hey Papas where did you get that Aristotle quote? It's on some of the papers for our football team...
