There is no Six Flags parks in North Dakota but that doesnt mean they should build there. Six Flags caters to the major metroplitan areas. Iowa has DesMoins, the Quad Cities, and Souix City and thats about it. So I say no, it would be foolish to build a park where there is no real market.
No, Six Flags needs to get out of debt before building or buying anymore parks. Iowa already has a pretty good park from what I have heard...Adventureland. Never been there but it looks like a nice park with a nice selection of rides.
I lived in Iowa for 7 years and I did go to Adventureland. It is a great park, just it needs about 2 more coasters to really put it on the map. They have a CCI woodie and William Cobb woodie and thats awesome by all standards, plus 2 other coasters. A six flags in Iowa would be great, but come on. It would never happen.
The company is in no financial position to be building parks from scratch. Those days are over.
Now buying Adventureland, thats another story. But I still think the company is in no position to be buying real estate. They should be SELLING the underperforming parks to the highest bidder for housing or retail and moving the rides to its more financially stable properties.
I know there are a lot of people out there who disagree with me, but they have gotten themselves DEEP into a hole and that may be the only way out. And selling ONE park isn't going to do it.

I agree, but you know six flags, they can resit competition
Actually, 2.9 million is not a fair amount for a Six Flags park. Think about it, every metropolitan area that a Six Flags is by has at least that many people. People in Iowa have 3 relatively close Six Flags parks anyway, Great America, St. Louis, and Elitch Gardens. It just would not make any sense to build a park in the middle of a bunch of cornfields.
Now as for Arizona, that would be the ideal place for a park, especially in the Phoenix area. But that's a whole 'nother story.

Well they wouldent have to start out as huge big Magic Mountain or a Great America. They can start out small and eventually work their way up. I think the quad cities would be a great place for one. You no its easy for a lot of you to say no about because you dont live there, I have to unfortunately. It really gets boring around here in the summers. A 6 hour drive to Gurnee is a long drive and I'm sorry for the people who like Adventureland out there but the only good ride they have is their S&S Space Shot.
Six Flag's network is fine and they don't need anymroe parks. 99% of the population lies within an 8hour drive of Six Flags, I would say that is preety D*** good.
There would be alot of room to build and expand buy Iowa is a fairly small state with not very many people. Most of the people there have probally never been on a roller coaster so they may be optimistic about riding one you have to think of that and other things like how they are going to get money to start a park from scratch when they are having to sell off their properties.
Most of the population in Iowa isnt really around the Quad Cities I would think its all around Des Moins and the burbs.
But Marriott did it because they had a clean slate and room to work. Chicago was a huge market as they really didn't have a major Theme Park near them at the time. Gurnee is also in a position to serve Milwaukee, Chicago, Gary, and Rockford..All major metropolitan centers around Six Flags.
Six Flags is in major financial trouble (hence the reason why they have been selling property) and they have been taking time improving the parks they have.
And if there was a market in Iowa then somone would have jumped and build a major theme park but there really isnt a market. The population is really spread out over the entire state (with the exception of the few major cities).
And Iowa is the state with the least amount of open land out of all 50 US states. Illinois is second with the fewest amount of open land. Iowa is almost entirely Devloped by either city or cropland. Some farmers can be pretty stubborn when trying to sell prime farmland.
There Are More Populated That Could Support The Six Flags Market Better Than Iowa. The Only Good Things About Iowa Are Adventureland And That Slipknot Is From Iowa, Thats It. Even Indiana Could Support One Better Than Iowa.
I put yes, but i think now that i have read all of your responses it would be a stupid idea to build a new park anywere. If they need to build any park it should be in florida. So many people go there and to all of the amusement parks.
If Six Flags were to ever build/buy a park all it would do is give the SFI haters something to whine about.
My park hasn't gotten a major coaster in 4 years! When without six flags it probably wouldn't have gotten a coaster at all...including those 3 great ones you got in 2000.

Your all wrong, I am from the corn state and in the biggest news, Cedar Fair will buy Adventureland (you heard it here first), therefore giving CF 4 parks within a 6 hour drive.
Ok I really don't know if they would buy it but if they do, you heard it here first.
