Coaster Expectations

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby DejaVuGurl1203 on October 21st, 2004, 6:06 pm
What coasters have you ridden that were higher than your expectations? What coasters did not meet your expectations?

There are plenty of coasters that were higher than my expectations. Deja Vu is one of my favorite examples. It looked like an okay coaster to me before I rode it. I rode it for the first time with my friend, and it IMMEDIATELY became my favorite coaster after riding it. It was so much more exciting than I thought it would be.

Magnum XL-200 is another example. When I first went to CP in 2003, Maggie didn't really look too exciting to me. Just another coaster in the park, no big deal. I rode it for the first time and couldn't believe what I had thought before. Totally awesome coaster.

I don't really think I've ever ridden a coaster that didn't meet my expectations.

The Boss totally didn't meet my expectations. I heard it was a rough and ok ride, but I was expecting a lot more with the awesome layout.

Alpengeist didn't meet my expectations at all. After I rode it, it wasn't anything special. I just felt like I had rode "any other ole roller coaster". Deja Vu was higher than my expectations but I didn't really think it was going to be much in the first place. Also, Magnum doesn't pass my expectations cos ejector air is not my thing.

Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disneyworld was much higher than my expectations. Ragin' Cajun was immensely below my expectations. One fakey New Orleans house doesn't do much for theming.

The ones that I found were way better than I thought they would be are:
Viper: From the line it looks so small and dinky. This ride blew me away the first time I rode it.
Great American Scream Machine: Tons of air, and a awesome ride!
Son Of Beast: Most people hate it. I thought it was alot of fun.

The one's that didn't impress me as much as I thought they would:
Georgia Cyclone: Most reviews rank this better than Viper, but I didn't think so.
Deja Vu: I'm sorry, but it just wasn't as fun as it looks. I enjoy PKI's Face/Off more.

First off, The Hulk disappointed me, it was way over-rated and I had very high expectations for it. Also, Magnum XL 200 was also very disappointing to me, I thought it was going to be awesome, but it was only okay.

The Mummy was way better than I was expecting, they did a great job on keeping the secret, since I was one of the first to ride it, it far exceeded my expectations. Also, Ragin' Cajun did not look like anything at all, but going on first dispatch, I wasn't expecting much, but it surprised me and became one of my top ten coasters. Finally, Demon looked like nothing when I first saw it, but when I rode it, it blew me away. I loved the drop and the ride, it became my 2nd favorite ride.

Deja Vu: I never went on it, never really cared for it, it was always breaking down. But then I actually went on it and now I love it.

ToT: Didn't think it was going to be that great. And after I went on it I was amazed. With all those drops it feels like you slant...

The most suprising roller coaster I've ever rode would have to be the Cornball Express at Indiana Beach. The top speed is only listed as 45 mph, but it really seems like its a lot faster. The airtime on that ride and the laterals around the helix are simply awesome. Definitely my favorite wooden roller coaster. Oh yea, I almost forgot, the best part of the ride is the drop over the lake right under the awesome headchopper. Simply amazing.

P.S. 200 posts for me!

I thought Ragin Cajun would give me more of a thrill, once I rode it more than once, it got boring

I've had a few of each.

A few that went below my expectations:

The Boss: It looked so big, the layout looked so fun. Too bad that it was one of the most painful rides of all time.

Physclone: So looking at this I was excited since the first thing that came to mind was "Hey look, it's Viper!" I even rode in the backrow with my lapbar pretty high. Boy was that a mistake and my lower back payed for it.

A few that went above and beyond:

X: I knew that this ride was going to rock before I rode it, but I still came off with wet pants. It's got in my opinion the best first drop ever, and is my #1 coaster.

Screamin Eagle: This is a good piece of John Allen fun! Lots of airtime and totally out of control without breaking my legs. Yay old woodies.

Top 5 Steel- 5-Velocicoaster 4- Maverick 3- Fury 325 2-Steel Vengeance 1-X2

For Me, my coasters have to be:
Most Impression: Top Thrill Dragster and Millennium Force.

Millennium because i had some negitives about it when it was compared to Raging Bull, the likes of which saying that RB's drop was better then Millennium's.

Least Impression: Also at CP was Mantis, i was looking for a kickass ride, but found that i like Iron Wolf better.

Also any woodie at Cedar Point. MS is a POS :)

At SFGAm:

Viper: I remember thinking that it looked like a puny little woodie, but then I rode it and it completely blew me away. I think it's much better than American Eagle.

Raging Bull: The first drop looked so awesome and I knew off the bat that it was going to be an amazing ride. I was right!

Demon: At first sight, I thought it looked remarkably similar to the Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis. I didn't like the Ninja a whole lot, so I just assumed this one would be similar. I was SO wrong.. Demon is an amazing ride--much better than the Ninja.

Ragin' Cajun: I had never ridden a spinning wild mouse coaster before, so I didnt know what to expect, but it blew whatever my expectations were away!

Screamin' Eagle blew my expectations out of the ground. I was thinking Am E would be very similiar to this. No way. Screamin' Eagle is 100 million times better.
Georgia Cyclone and Great American Scream Machine also^
Road Runner Mouse at SFKK^

Looking at the Boss, I thought this could be cool. Again, I was horribly wrong. As said before, this ride should be used instead of electricutions.

Dueling Dragons gets praised by many people. BTR is so much better than this. So, another disappointment.
T2 also^

For Mr. Freeze, D Vu, Mind Bender, SFStL, and SFOG Mine Trains, V2, and SUF I expected them to be great and they have been for me.

The coasters that were great at once, but have come down to being moderate are RB and Viper.

Demon has gone up.

For me... The Legend and The Raven didnt meet my expectations. I was really excited about them because I heard so much good stuff about them but I was extremely dissapointed.

Raven, it had air but before you knew it, it was then end.

Legend, very long but had no air whatsoever.

Coasters that did meet my expectations... Ragin' Cajun I expected it to be an average ride, but it wasnt, my first ride was insane on it.

Exceeded:

Superman Ride of Steel at SFNE is the best coaster there is and I dont see how anything could possibly be better than iit (Except maybe Expedition GeForce)..I went into the park hearing everyone say it was the best, so thats what I expected going in...and it only took one ride to make me believe it.

Thunderhead was another coaster that was a potential to dethrone a #1 coaster for me. Unlike SROS SFNE however, this took about 8 rides to take my #1 spot away from Legend at HW.

Did not meet:

Goliath at SFMM is probably the worst of the hypercoasters I have been on, but is still a good ride. I expected it to be better than it was.

Revenge of the Mummy by far, I knew it was going to be good but not that good, and it was only the preopening.

Ride's that exceeded my expectations:

1. Cornball Express, originally Indiana Beach was advertising this as a small family coaster so I wasn't expecting much from it. After riding it though it immediatly became my favorite wooden coaster and is still my favorite wooden coaster.

2. X - I knew this was going to be a great ride, but word's can't describe how awesome it actually is. Only negative about it was the 3 hour wait with 1 train operation when I was there :(. But the ride experience can't be beat.

3. Scream and Batman Knight Flight....never realized how good B&M Floorless coasters were. I couldn't get enough of both coaster riding them many times during my visits.

4. Mr. Freeze, awesome ride that didn't look like much. Another ride I couldn't get enough of riding it many times.

Most disappointing coasters:

1. The Beast at PKI, the reviews and praise people give this ride I don't get. The ride is slow and very rough in portions, not my type of wooden rollercoaster at all.

2. Psyclone at SFMM, looks just like Viper but god only knows what happened to this coaster. It just sucks.

3. Mean Streak at CP, another wooden coaster that looked impressive but just did not even come close to meeting expectations. On my last visit to Cedar Point however, it was giving far better and smoother of a ride then it did in years past when I rode it.

Did Not Meet Expectations:
1. DeJa Vu(SFGAm): I thought it would be more exciting, but I yawned
on it.
2. Whizzer(SFGAm): When I went on it about 10 years ago, it was so
boring.
3. Psyclone(SFMM): It would have met my expectations, if I wasn't
in pain during the whole thing. Teaches me to go on a wooden coaster
only 2.5 weeks after surgery!!

Did meet Expectations:
1. Riddler's Revenge (SFMM)
2. Superman Ultimate Flight (SFGAm): Back Row Only. It's great.
3. Iron Wolf (SFGAm)
4. Demon (SFGAm)
5. Raptor (Cedar Point)

Went well beyond my expectations:
1. X (SFMM): My favorite coaster
2. Scream (SFMM)
3. Millenium Force (Cedar Point)
4. Gemini (Cedar Point)
5. Viper (SFGAm): My favorite Wooden Coaster
6. Raging Bull (SFGAm): My Favorite B&M Coaster

Did NOT meet my expectations:

Hypersonic XLC at PKD: I thought it would be fun because the launch looked awsome, but after riding it I realized that it was only about 3 seconds long and not worth the 45 minute wait that I had waited.

Son of Beast at PKI: This ride looked fun because of the drop and the loop, but it ended up being really rough.

Did meet my expectations:

Deja Vu: I had been on a couple of other Vekoma boomerangs and they were not to great but this one ended up being my 2nd favorite ride ever.
