Okay, here's my question. WHY does Cedar Point build these record breakers? If all they are drawing is families, then why don't they just build a kiddie park instead? Ironically, everyone I've talked to in fact said they WOULD drive to Cedar Point for their coaster lineup. I know plenty of non-enthusiast families who trek to Cedar Point every year to check out their new roller coasters. I am insisting that somebody tells me WHY Cedar Point is building these record breaking rides if THEY AREN'T BRINGING PEOPLE? Why spend millions on Top Thrill Dragster when it's not going to help attendance at all? oh and
Also, 3.3 million for a park that isn't open year round... damn. Your so called "Destination Parks" are all open year round, did you even consider that? Most likely not.
Top Spins aren't dated, huh? Funny how Six Flags Elitch Gardens (Dump of all Six Flags parks) has had theirs for at least 5 seasons, as has Geauga Lake. You'll get a few decent flips out of them, but it's mainly just rocking back and fourth like a cradle. Not very fun if you ask me.
Oh, and by the way, Cedar Point's flat rides suck. Hopefully if they ever do upgrade them, they go with something more modern than a used Frisbee and a portable Top Spin.
And Ron... how's the trim brake doing on top of Top Thrill Dragster? Still hitting hard?
^LOL to the trim brake! Something else to consider....Cedar Point drew 3.3 million in 2003, Knotts Berry Farm (which is open year round) drew 3.5 million. CP also outdrew SFMM another park open much more than CP is (although half the rides arent hehe) So your "3.3 million is not a lot" thing is totally meaningless. SFGAm drew somewhere around 2.4 million (thats over a million less than Cp if you werent counting) and a small place like Michigans Adventure only drew 450,000. Bottom line, CP is just trying to draw more people in and i think it is commonsense to put up ads in a city that has around 8 million in the area that happens to be only 5-6 hours away!
coasterzak wrote:I don't know, CP has 2 coasters over 300 feet. If I hadn't experienced a coaster that was or is 'The world's tallest fastest coaster' I think that would draw me!
It definatly draws me...and my dad...and my uncle...and my...
Top 5 wood-5-Goliath 4-Ravine Flyer II 3-Phoenix 2-Voyage 1-El Toro Top 5 Steel- 5-Velocicoaster 4- Maverick 3- Fury 325 2-Steel Vengeance 1-X2 Coaster Count: 444
It draws you, how many people would be willing to drive 6 hours to ride it?
Also CP is badly placed, if it was somewhere like FLA or Cali it may be contending but bleh, not a good place for a resort area that's looking to contend with the biggies in my opinion.
When I was a non-enthusiast, CP looked like heaven to me....since then...I've began to appreciate more of all these other parks that no one has ever heard of. I've had my sudden interests for Top Thrills Dragster and Millenium Force, but nothing beats a classic ride on Whizzer, Back Row far right on Raging Bull, or front row on Deja Vu. CP is for those people who arent enthusiasts but are willing to go on anything. Cedar Point does indeed attract enthusiast's but they attract more people from the GP. If you were to ask a group of enthusiats if they would go to Cedar Point or any other park they could...definatly more people would choose any other park. Sure, Cedar Point is an awesome park...but there are alot better parks that have a wider variety of things for the family ::cough:: sfgam ::cough:: lol. But my point is Cedar Point is great but there are ALOT better parks out there.
I love arguing with people that think CP is all that and then some.
complain all you want about the flats that are going in this year at SFGAm, but it doesn't matter because people will enjoy them.
CP builds these record breakers to keep attendance steady. They have pretty much reached their peak at 3.3 million. I don't see that number increasing.
Just because you break a record doesn't mean you are the best and everyone and their mother is going to visit.
Been to CP before and while I find it a good park, I don't think its god's creation as some people would try to convince you to believe.
If you think heaven is in Sandusky, by all means, pack your bags and move out there. We won't miss you.

As Scott already knows, I fully agree with him. I had just as much fun visiting SFWoA as I did at CP. It's far from the holy land most of the "Pointers!" make it out to be.
Dave - who choose not to make the trek to Ohio last year for a 16 second ride, but rather went to ride it's shorter in height cousin on the west coast .
Let me chime in here if i may, Personally im tired of hearing about Cedar Point this, CP that, i agree 100% with Scott, Cedar Point isnt all that and then some as some of the less informed people on this forum play it out to be. Yes i have never been there, however i have read enough about the park to know enough about it to make a decision about it. Personally i find that PKI also in Ohio would be a better family destionation spot rather then CP.
With gas prices how they are now, people in this area, especially where i am am at in relation to most posters on this fourm would rather spend 1/2 a tank of gas to get to Great America, then 3 tanks on a Trip to CP.
Yeah CP, has the tallest Roller Coasters,Tallest Drinking fountains, tallest urinals, tallest billboards, fastest bumper cars, rudest people... Who cares
Cedar Point nice place dont get me wrong, but its deffinately not Heaven, as for those dopes who say "Im never going to a SF park ever again and only going to CP." Good luck and god speed and thank you for making the lines at Great America shorter for me

If you feel that way about them, then dont go to the park, its that simple, and if your so much in love with Cedar Point, then by all means pack up and move there. We sure as hell wont miss you.

That's a little unreasonable don't you think Mike. And before you talk bad about Cedar Point I think you should go there first and form a opinion of your own instead of judging the park by what you have heard.
I have been to both parks many times, and CP's employees are nicer than SFGAm's. I happen to think that Cedar Point is an excellent park, and it also has two kiddie coasters and many kids rides for those who think it isn't a family park. Cedar Point has everything to offer and therefore should be considered the best park in the country.
By The way, Galvan, that post was a little hard to read.

How about you go to the park before you prejudge it? I *NEVER* said Cedar Point was "Heaven". It's just a well run park in my opinion. Cedar Point is sorta legendary... it's the park other parks want to be. Granted Cedar Point has a nice coaster lineup... I'd still rather go to SFNE and ride Superman over any coaster there, and same for Thunderhead. When did I ever say that CP was the "Holy Land" of coasters? I have never felt this way, but people get so worked up about Great America that they just have to be put in their place. So many of you are just fanboys of SFGAm... there's MORE STUFF OUT THERE! Why don't you guys leave your comfort zone of SFGAm and head out to... I don't know... any OTHER PARK? Anyway, as far as "Family Parks" go.... if the families contain little kids... PKI is the place. If the "Family" is a bunch of teens, then by all means hit up Cedar Point. Personally, I LOVE Disney parks for their atmosphere and the sort of "reborn kid inside of you" feeling you get when you visit. Cedar Point has a LONG way to go before I can declare it a "Holy Land" of sorts... all I was trying to say is that 420 foot coasters draw people.
Oh, and about Cedar Point employees being rude... trust me I have had my extremely negative experiences with them.

Scott, if anything we are gunna back up our home park. There are some things at SFGAm you just cant immitate. I agree we should all get away sometimes and hit up some other parks. I...WE all know there are some awesome parks out there besides SFGAm, but it is our homepark and we're most likely always gunna wanna go there. I agree its not healthy (in an enthusiast sort of way) to cling to your home park and NEVER go to another park. And I say again and again and again its OUR homepark and we are always gunna wanna come back. There are gunna be people who go to different parks all the time and there are those who are gunna stay at there homeprak because they cant get out. So you cant be dissing people cause some of us cant get out to ALL these parks. And isnt this about CP marketing in Chicago? Jeez we get off topic so fast!
I think he may of been referring to me, Which is also wrong because i have been to Indiana Beach,SFKK,SFSTL and PKI. That constitutes going to other parks.
