So on the second week of June(9th-14th), I'm going on a road trip to Silver Dollar City, with a pit stop at Six Flags Saint Louis. This is my first time at these parks, and was wondering if anyone had any tips. Thanks!
I can only tell you about Six Flags St. Louis as I have yet to visit Silver Dollar City.
St. Louis has a nice collection of coasters and rides. Not on the level of Great America but sufficient. My 1-2 punch at this park is Scooby Doo darkride and Mr. Freeze as they are right across from eachother. American Thunder is in that area but I haven't been back to ride it.
Make sure you have comfortable tennis shoes on as this park is on a hillside and it is steep in some areas.
Operations have been hit and miss there on the times I went but overall, they are decent. The waterpark is included with admission so if you are into that, check it out.
Any specific questions, feel free to ask.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
Hey expect slow people. Everyone in St Louis seems to think they are in the deep south where its 1000 degrees and they have to move <1 mile an hour. IT WILL BE HOT!! We went in Late june/early july and it was almost unbearably hot. If you're a water park person definately go. BTW drivers in St Louis think they're Andetti at the Indy 500. Other than that the signs are misleading they say something like 8 miles to Eureka and its more like 16-24.
June 8: Leave at around 1:00, and head for St. Louis. From Gurnee, it'll take about 5 hours, so I'll get there around 6:00, have dinner there, and get to my hotel.
June 9: Six Flags St. Louis! I can't do the waterpark, as I can only stay until about 4(give or take a few hours), maybe see the Arch, then head to Branson. It'll take about 4 hours, so if I leave at 4, then I get there around 8. Have dinner, hotel.
June 10: Silver Dollar City! Ride as much as I can, see some shows/craftsmen, and other SDC/Branson stuff.
June 11: Either day 2 of SDC, or head back to St. Louis, maybe another SFStL trip? If not, then go to Springfield, IL. and see some museums, and monuments. Sleep in St. Louis or Springfield.
June 12: Head back home. Maybe see stuff along the way back.
Thank you for the suggestions! This will help me!
Any other suggestions? Rides I must/Mustn't do? Please do tell. Thanks!
June 9th should be sufficient for SFStL. It's a nice park, but it shouldn't require tons of time. You should be able to hit all of the coasters in a few hours easily, and the only non-coaster ride I would make sure to hit is the Scooby Doo dark ride. Perhaps Excalibur if you like big spinning rides. It's not usually super crowded. I would start with American Thunder, then Freeze, Scooby Doo, Tony Hawk, Boss, Screamin'Eagle, Boomerang, Ninja (never has a wait), than Batman. Tony Hawk, Boomerang, and Eagle (for whatever reason) are the only rides that might have decent waits. You won't need a second day. You might not even need until 4.
Silver Dollar City: this park is best appreciated at a slower pace. It's not a thrill park so don't go expecting that and you'll have a great time. Take time for craftsmen, browse the shops, watch the shows (my favorite are the Pickers at the Homestead), and hit the Marvel Cave tour, that's a must-do. Also a whole lot of unique (and GOOD) park food, so don't settle for burgers and hot dogs- find something unique, or better yet, snack constantly. Try a skillet meal, the famous cinnamon bread (Sullivan's Mill), apple dumplings with cinnamon ice cream (next to Fire in the Hole's exit), among other great options. Like SFStL it's very hilly, and there are a lot of side streets that can make navigation a little confusing; just remember that if you're going downhill you're going further into the park.
Powder Keg and Outlaw Run are the two most popular rides and your two morning priorities. Outlaw Run will draw the crowd quicker but you might appreciate Powder Keg more if you do it first, so which one you do first is up to you. Both are occasionally prone to mechanical issues. The train (if you're interested) can also attract long waits as it only leaves on the half-hour. Wildfire and Thunderation rarely get bad waits and are usually 15 minutes or less. Most other ride waits shouldn't be terrible.
Aside from the coasters, make sure you hit Fire in the Hole, Flooded Mine, and walk through Grandfather's Mansion (funhouse). American Plunge in my experience is much wetter than your average log flume if you enjoy (or don't enjoy) getting wet.
I personally would take a second day for SDC; I always go two days and it's much more relaxing that way. The park hours are also always short, the park will close at 7 each night. In terms of other Branson activities, in my opinion there's not a whole lot there. Don't waste your time with Whitewater.
There are a lot of free things in St. Louis that you can hit on your way down or back, so look around and see what interests you.
Hope that this is helpful and that you have a great trip!

Thanks! I personally don't like getting wet unless I'm in a waterpark of some sort. It's just me. Also, is Hurricane Harbor at SFStL included, or does it have a $5 fee like we have? I personally am a Season Passholder, but I'm going with someone who isn't. Thanks!
Turns out I'm leaving early tomorrow. Any last minute tips? Sorry if I'm being repetitive, but this is the first year I'm going to multiple amusement parks with me actually knowing. Thanks!
Couldn't do SFStL today due to rain. Going to hit it Friday, and SDC tomorrow. I stayed at an EconoLodge(WORST decision of my life. I was greeted by a 1 ft. Worm in the morning), and had some of the best pizza ever at Gainino's. They were doing construction around the highway to get to the Arch, so I'm doing that Saturday morning. The landscape is gorgeous, hills, trees and rock walls are abundant, something to see at every turn. I also saw the Illinois capitol of Springfield yesterday. I saw the Lincoln Library and Museum, and the capitol building. I should be arriving in Branson shortly. If you want to see me, I'm in a blue Jeep Liberty. Bye!
