Head against Headrests

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

I know this sounds like a stupid question but why do rides enforce this. On most rides it just makes it worse. Now i understand why they do this with rides with harnesses and launch coasters but why is it enforced with RB AE and Viper. Back in 04 i rode AE with my head back and it HURT. The same thing happaned with Demon. It was because of that that i was afaraid of roller coasters till 07 when i rode Bull. But i still would not ride much. Finally in 09 i rode B:TR S:UF and V2. And then i got the courage to ride AE. But it was not until a month ago that i finally decided to give Demon a shot. As you can see this rule turned me away from coasters for a LONG time

What are your thoughts on the situation :?: :?: :?:

They don't enforce it, but they have signs that say you should keep your head back. The reason is probably because if you get a neck injury, they don't want to liable. Almost everytime I'm on V2, I see some person in front of me like a pinball hitting the bumpers going left and right hitting the harness. That's a reason on that ride to keep your head back, but if you just follow the motion of the ride, you can avoid that.

Another reason why they say to keep your head back is because if you keep it forward, you are going to hit your head right into the harness, but I see the problem being is that it's hard to keep your head back all the time when you have different forces.

in my opinion on V2 they enforce it. My guess is theres 11 signs up there saying to keep your head back(1 for every 2 rows and then two signs at the front and two more around rows 7 and 8)

^Because if you don't put your head back when the ride starts, it's going to slam against the seat, but I've seen tons of times when they don't put their head back on V2. No one is making anyone put their head back, but those signs are more like warnings.

I keep my head in a natural position when I ride, which on 99% of coasters isn't on the headrest. Even if it were enforced, how would ride ops enforce it?

You are told to keep your head against the headrest because if one does the opposite, has a weak neck and hits the bottom of American Eagle's first drop it can force the head down, which is far more uncomfortable than a little jarring on a headrest.

The basic idea is for people to keep their heads upright or back, not necessarily against the headrest.
