Mean Streak is fun in the rain, at night with the trims off. Another fun time to ride is when they turn the lights off. Because of the structure and because it's in the back of the park, when the lights are off you can't see anything. One of the most memorable experiences I have had on a coaster in the park.
I think they were going to wait, it says the in park fire department wasn't there, I get the feeling it's the kinda thing where while probably not intentional, the insurance payoff could have gone a long way. Just what I gather from it I suppose.

I would disagree. It was the worst coaster experience of my life, it was such a rough ride and the restraints are way too lose. Even though I could've re-rode this ride that night it was so rough and painful I just went back to the hotel. Riding Wicked Twister at night was AMAZING though... I rode that 3 times in a row in each different sections and it was a great ride each time.
You don't need to go to CP to ride Mean Streak you can have someone clobber you with a Louisville Slugger repeatedly for an accurate simulation of the ride experience. The last time I rode it it made Son of Beast feel like a Cadillac.
There is NO airtime on Mean Streak at all... the first drop is not even that great... It's got the roughness of American Eagle's Helix times 100,000,000
I saw this on another forum first and got excited for a second. Surely they'd have to replace it in the next few seasons if it was destroyed.
As for the ride quality, this can be an excellent ride; it's just in dire need of retracking. If they can do that and stop the brain-rattling shake, then this might actually be a good ride. I really want to like this ride; it's awesome to look at and really looks like a piece of art. The ride quality just isn't there though. I can also see where tp41190 is coming from in terms of it being a great ride. He has probably just figured out the secret to riding it.
I also think the conversation between the firefighters went like this after they got the call:
Firefighter 1: We have to go! There's a fire at Cedar Point! Firefighter 2: Really, what happened? Firefighter 1: I heard Mean Streak caught fire. Firefighter 3: Do you realize how much crap we're going to catch for this if we actually put the fire out?
I loved that all the non-MS crews wanted it to catch on fire & burn down one day, & it almost did! haha Even workin there, I couldnt get any appreciation for that coaster except for its look. HOWEVER, after I quit, /I decided to go to the park closing day 2009 & we were stopped at transfer for a no trim ride.......O M G, I honestly gotta say, such a great ride. & according to my friend CJ(lead), it was the fastest cycle of the season. I was actually screamin. So if it was a non-trimmed coaster all the time, I would love it to stay, but somehow trimmin that thing some how makes it a worse ride, & then Id agree to let it burn.
^They just need to stop being cheap and do some refurbishing on it. Cedar Fair's mentallity for wooden coasters is spend as little as possible until it gets to the point where it becomes unsafe, then put a bunch of trims on the ride so they can spend as little as possible on yearly maintenance. They actually did some decent work on Blue Streak this year...although it barely lasted until August. Not to mention it felt like they didn't even touch the turn around.
And I agree, trimless Mean Streak is amazing. If only I could combine my lights off ride experience (literlly can't see the row in front of you), with my trimless rain ride experience. It would have the potential for top ten.
First the maintenance shed, then the Go Cart explosion, then Mean Streak, and now this! I think it's funny though. There is a generator box in the Ripcord office that we sit on. We also lost pens, papers, rolls of tape, ect in it. I am surprised the Ripcord office one hasn't caught on fire yet
Being an electrician I know what happens when a transformer blows up, it can get messy. Best are the larger ones that are usually oil filled. Here is a decent video of one of those blowing up, just before the fireball you can see a cloud of steam blow out of it, that's vaporized mineral oil, very highly flamable...
